Clutch Pedal Goes to the floor!
tugalo replied to benjy_26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Put your head down by the gas pedal and look up at the end of the clutch arm. Take your hand and push on the clutch pedal, watch the end of the clutch arm where it attaches to the rod, if the rod turns, it is not broken -

TPS question ... Of a different sort.
tugalo replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The TPS connedtor is a Weatherpak, and you could buy a pin removal tool and just change over the connectors without having to make a harness..........look on ebay for the tool -
Water/antifreeze bottle
tugalo replied to Old man with MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i believe thats an overflow to relieve the pressure if you overfill the bottle, just put on a short piece of hose to take the water out of the engine bay. -

The junkyard is your friend...........check out the Dodge truck mirrors, i'll bet Dakota mirrors would fit. Also think about a Cherokee instrument panel with gauges, -

High Idle / None of the usual fixes seems to work
tugalo replied to buckwheat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i am interested in whatever you find out because my 88 idles at 750-800 on start up but when it gets to operating tempt, the idle goes to between 1200-1500. I have gone thru all the things you have and they made little difference. The one thing i haven't tried is adjusting the idle stop. Keep chasing it, and keep us posted, i'm sure that others are fighting the same bug -

i keep reading that the XJ fuel senders are the mirror images of the MJ units and therefore will not work. Since the senders are potentiometers and the circuit works on resistance, has anyone tried reversing the leads on an XJ sender for use in an MJ?

On the firewall side, there are two wiring bundles that come into the fuse block. Remove the dust covers from these bundles, between the two bundles there is a bolt that holds the connectors to the fuse block. Remove the bolt and separate the two connectors from the fuse block. There will be lots of black gunk in the connectors, good time to clean it out and check for corrosion. Then go under the dash and remove the two bolts that hold the block to the firewall inside the cab. You will have to remove steering braces and some bracketry to get the block down on the floor where you can work on it. find someone on this forum who will sell you a fuse block, or go to a junkyard and cut out a fuse block from a Cherokee and have it on hand for the next phase. get a thin piece of metal and slide it down the sides of each pin you want to remove. Each pin has a metal tab that locks it into the block, and you must depress this tab toward the pin to get each one to slide out of the block. As you remove each pin, insert it into the new block. There is another post on this forum that talks about fuse blocks and has a link to a company that sells pins. Open this link and look at the photos of the pin and you will see the metal tab sticking out of the side of the pin. The photos help you visualize how the pin is made and where to use your removal tool to release the locking tab.

Water/antifreeze bottle
tugalo replied to Old man with MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The Dodge Intrepid swap is cheap, easy, and will last forever. Pretty sure there are other Mopar bottles that will fit, just have to remove the original bottle mounting bracket and install the Intrepid bottle with 2 screws into the firewall shelf at the original location. -
Look at the fuse box terminal pin that the poster found on the internet. When you enlarge the single pin photo, you will see a brass tab sticking out the side of the terminal. Use a thin strip of metal and push it down beside the terminal pin to press this pin in toward the body of the terminal. That tab is what locks the terminal into the block. once the tab is depressed, the terminal should just slide out of the fuse block.....there may be a matching tab on the other side of the terminal, if so, both must be depressed simultaneously.
