  1. Its not luck.....its just a solid vehicle that is almost bulletproof....
  2. i believe the 92 had an electronic speedometer so no cable. you will at least have to change the speedometer head to use the old one with cable drive. See how the printed circuit boards match up to each other.....probably more trouble than its worth....
  3. Is anyone running Mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30 as a tranny lube? Any problems with it?
  4. My 88 bogs down on acceleration, but then "catches" and runs fine. I have some degree of timing chain slack and I think that is what is causing the bogging.
  5. Do you guys repair a burnt out fusible link or do you just replace it with an in-line fuse. if you repair it, how do you do it?
  6. Instrument panel ground is under the drivers side kick panel IIRC.
  7. go over to the NAXJA forum and read the death wobble story posted there, it runs to well over 15 pages of advice and attempts to cure that guy's problem.......
  8. Looking for the bar/rod that actuates the rear proportioning valve. Needs both end sockets attached. thanks.........bob
  9. If you used a universal O2 sensor that you have to splice into the existing harness, the black wire is the output to the computer, not ground as you would think.
  10. Anyone who is having electrical problems could probably use one of these tools. To remove the pins or sockets, just push the tool over them from the front of the connector until it bottoms out and pull on the wire while maintaining steady pressure on the tool. The pin or socket will pull right out. If the connector has a shield attached, remove it before trying to remove the pins. the cheapest tool I have found is on ebay...item #230613327299. $4.99 with free shipping.
  11. waiting for the de-greaser to burn off? Does that mean you hosed down the engine? If so, look to the TPS....it hates water!
  12. Stick to a mid 89 or later if you get a manual transmission, that way you will not have to deal with the Peugeout transmission....they are very weak and are extremely expensive to rebuild IF you can find the parts.
  13. If the de facto grandfather will sell it for scrap price, the current price here in Toccoa, Ga. is $13.00 per hundred pounds. A jeep cherokee weighs 3084 lbs, and the truck should be about the same. No matter what is wrong with the truck, you can't go wrong buying it at scrap price. the tail lights alone are worth 75.00 to 100.00. I would find another mechanic.....no one can tell that the 4x4 is messed up without the engine running and the truck drivable. I also do not believe that the pistons are seized since it was stored inside. It would make a GREAT learning experience for your son, and the total, (with junkyard parts) should run less than $1500. Just make sure you stay away from Atlanta and Atlanta prices.....

    3.07 rear end

looking for a complete 3.07 rear end for my DD. bob
  15. There's a REALLY comprehensive thread about death wobble running on the NAXJA forum, I think it has about 5 pages of replies.....might learn something.
  16. for a project, find a place that deals in used appliances and snag a couple of dryer backs. They have louvers/vents of different shapes and you can cut them to the shape you want. Install on your rig.......1/10th the price....
  17. the Map sensor is the only thing plugged into the throttle body on that side on my 88. I believe the Map sensor line goes into the bottom hole and I think the upper one is a dummy.
  18. There are quite a few AN fittings on ebay......
  19. Does anyone know how to remove the indicator needles come the gauge faces so that the faces can be changed?
  20. Nope, has no pot or adjustment of any kind.....
  21. I just scored an instrument cluster from an 87 MJ with full gauges and tach, only problem is, it was a 4 cyl and my truck has a 6 cyl. Anybody know if the tach will work? I took the cluster apart and there is no switch on the tach for 4,6,or 8 cyl.
  22. Yes you can swap cushions......
  23. The bed is straight and in pretty good shape, as is the tail-gate(one dent). the rear window is a slider from another brand of truck that was ghettoed into this truck. Looks bad. I'll check on the cargo light. the hood release is broken so I can't open it up, but it is straight also. Even if the tranny is a B/A10, i'll snag it cause thats what I'm running now. My truck is a daily driver 4 x 2.
  24. Found an Comanche pickup at the dump today. I got them to set it aside for me and I intend to take the rear axle assy and the tranny. Its a short bed 4 wheel drive, but the front axle is broken, and the engine is gone. I think it was a 4.0. the stickers are gone, so I can't determine the year. but the body is nice and straight and all the glass is good. Does anyone know the standard rear end ratio for a 4 x 4 5 speed? If anyone wants anything that I'm not taking, let me know, maybe I can work it out....
