  1. everything from an XJ will swap for a 4WD conversion EXCEPT the rear DS. You can reuse your MJ console. Jeff
  2. IIRC the torque for steel wheels is 80 lb/ft.... When I had alloys on the MJ, I torqued them to 100, and checked them every once in awhile. Never had a problem. Jeff
  3. I did the same thing too Rick. Having a black interior, it's next to impossible to find matching interior parts, and when I stumbled across the black buckets in the 4dr XJ they were in, I snagged them. It really is a PITA getting stuff in/out from behind them, but, as you say...."I can live with it" ;) Jeff
  4. yer not gonna get a wife and younguns into a TJ....comfortably, at least
  5. ahhh......ya.... Fastenal, or the dealership then (and I thought PA rust was bad......) Jeff
  6. Pete, how bad off are yours? When I redid my leafpacks, I considered replacing all the mounting hardware, but I broke out the bench grinder with the wire wheel.......what I thought was bad was really only surface rust. I cleaned my originals up and reused them. The factory stuff is case-hardened, which is kinda difficult to find unless you go dealer like Don said (at least down here it is). Jeff Image Not Found
  7. Yup.....I even have trouble with the top ON if it's really windy  And if you're thinking the 2.5 will get great gas mileage, that's not the case. I average a fairly consistent 20 MPG, and that's mostly highway mileage back and forth to work. Don't get me wrong, I love my TJ, and got it for a good price, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd at least opt for the X model (4.0). Jeff
  8. Who would ever think of doing THAT???? :D Jeff

    A Drunken Rant

It's like the "Jeep wave" that only happens if you're in a SWB Jeep. If I'm driving my BONE STOCK TJ, every TJ/YJ that I pass waves at me. But I can drive past the same people in my hopped up MJ and nothing  I've gotten a total of one wave from an XJ to date. It was pretty well built, and we passed each other going into/out of the junkyard. Jeff

    budweiser

I live on Bud Light..... What is really sad about it is the possible fate of what InBev is calling "non-core" expenditures. A/B owns and operates three large facilities here in VA, Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, and Kingsmill resort, all within a stone's throw of the brewery down in Williamsburg. They contribute over $1M in tax revenues to the local economy, as well as employ 3-5000 people. Jeff
  11. My wife has always had allergies, but I never had them until we moved to Virginia. Now, tree and grass pollen in the spring, and mold spores kill me. When I get a flareup, I steal a couple Loratadine (Claritin) from her, and they clear me up within an hour or so. I'll go into sneezing fits in the evenings that last 15-20 minutes....drives me crazy. Jeff
  12. Do what I did.......see sig line :D Jeff
  13. when Pat and I SOA'd my MJ, we set the new perches parallel to the factory ones....that keeps the same pinion angle relative to the TC output. Lookin' good bigD  Jeff
  14. Pat, Just stumbled across this....it ought to help you. It only lists collapsed lengths, but it's better than guessing. Check the second page for XJ/ZJ driveshaft lengths: http://www.crownautomotive.net/catalog/ ... afts1.html Jeff
  15. I booty-fabbed mine......stuck a small piece of 2X4 in the bottom of the door that keeps the window from rolling the whole way down. It stops it right as the top of the glass is level with the window felts :D Jeff
  16. it was snapped off inside the head.....neither of us noticed it when I picked it up  No worries, I'll just add a head gasket and VC gasket to the parts list.... Jeff
  17. I just put new freeze plugs in a 4.0 block that I'm rebuilding. There were chunks of crud inside the block between the middle cylinder walls (between #3 and 4 especially) that I guarantee would never come out with a regular flush. I ended up loosening them up with a screwdriver and sucking them out with a small shopvac..... not suggesting you pull all the freezeplugs to flush the block, but that would be the most effective way (although probably the most pain in the #&$#^ way) ;) Jeff
  18. brigarpeon, the 2WD beam axle is exactly the same as the 4WD version, less the gears and axleshafts, and the outer C's have spindles bolted to them instead of unit bearings. Brake rotors on the 2WD incorporate the inner/outer wheel bearings. All of the bolt points (control arms, trackbar, sway bar links, shocks, coil buckets, drag link/tie rod) are the same. It's a 100% "take the 2WD axle out and bolt the 4WD one in" deal for a 4WD conversion. Jeff
  19. Negative……broke one punch and bent another one. I’m probably gonna pull the head and let my neighbor take it into work. His shop can drill the rest of it out and retap the hole Image Not Found Did manage to replace all the freeze plugs, though. It wasn’t a totally wasted day :D Image Not Found
  20. it's a 1/8" bit, and the tip (about 3/16") snapped off deep inside the middle of the stud. I'm gonna go work on it some more with a set of small punches and see if I can break it up any. Jeff
  21. up to 536..... ;) Jeff
  22. not sure on the exact length, but a V8 ZJ has the longest front DS of all. It may be close. Jeff
  23. Woring on a 4.0 rebuild (on a stand, not in the vehicle). The front exhaust manifold stud was snapped off inside the head, and I tried to drill it out. Things were going along well until I snapped the tip of a 1/8" bit off deep inside the stud, and I can't get the piece out. I've got the stud mostly drilled out, about 1/2" deep into the head, but can't get any furthur than the piece of broken drill bit. Any ideas beside pulling the head and taking it to a shop (or replacing it)? TIA, Jeff
