Converting courtesy lights to LED
HOrnbrod replied to 90MJext's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I just got a couple of LED Cool White replacements for the existing incandescent 908's and stuck 'em in. Bam - done. :D -
The XJ seat design change was in 1994 so this limits MJ "bolt-in" seats to XJs 1993 and below using the MJ bracketry. The ZJ seats mentioned above will swap easily into 1994+ XJs, but as Taz says will take mucho fab work to get them into an MJ, but I suspect they will be too wide if you have a full console. There has got to be bucket seats out there that will fit the MJs easily, but haven't seen any real good options yet. Maybe an 89 Yugo?

I had one of the flexible hoses that run from the center plenum to the dash discharge vent partially come off one time (think I did it myself when I was doing something up under the dash). It caused very reduced air flow out of that vent.

Hedgehogs are not reptiles mate.

Ping jockey, all right! :D I was an FT. Went to work at NWS Yorktown building Terrier/Tartar missles, but saw the handwriting on the wall - not much future doing that. Went into Telecomms at Yorktown then got a GS-11 job in Subic Bay and stayed in Pac theater for many many years. Made it up to GS-14, then came back to the States to finish my high three and retired a short time ago out of Redstone Arsenal. I never wanted to be a contractor because of the year-to-year uncertainty of it, and with a family I much prefered the security. And the way the economy's going now, it's even worse. The best of luck in the future to you Chief - I'm glad I'm done with it though.......
-
Congrats Chief. You made it three more years that I did. It's a great feeling, also was a bit scary. But I jumped right into Civil Service at NAVWEPSTA Yorktown and moved on from there. Couldn't stomach the idea of becoming a flocking contractor. :D Forgot what your rating was shipmate. Planning on staying in the No-flock area?

This is great - they got Cream and BB King - good to go now.

Taz is right on the first part; if you have a Renix I'm pretty sure you are SOL. But he's semi-wrong on the second part, they ARE worth the money to get the most out of a stroker engine (at least the Unichip is) and it's proven on the Hesco dyno. I posted these results over on the strokers forum: http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=387. Don't remember if I posted this here or not. I also don't think a chip will do much for a non-stroked HO engine with a couple of add-ons, not economically wise. :D So Taz was right about that part too. Taz was mostly right again. He also loves the Stillers. Damn you Taz!

Brent, Jeff, and the rest of the Stiller fans - y'all order your kegs of Iron City? :ack:

Thanks for fixing it Rich. :D And yeah, got to go with the NFC; just wish it were someone else representing them............ :(

Damn you too Taz! I'm going mad! Just for that super annoying tidbit I'll have to pick the Cards...

MJ Wheel Stance WITH PICS WAHOO!
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes you crazy bastid. :D Actually the rears are still inboard about 1/4" inboard as compared to the fronts. I cut a straight 1x1 a bit longer than the tire width so I can snug it up to the flare bottom when it is flush w. the tire. The fronts stick out exactly to the outer edge of the flare. I'll get a pic later. -
Wil, that's right, forgot his name. Good honest guy to work with. I've used the Osrams in the Benz's, in fact they are the OEM bulbs, but not the "xenons". The Osrams didn't last nearly as long as the IPF stuff in my experience. But they will work just fine, as long as they are not the ghay blue ones. So you're going with the Hella E-codes Rich? If so, good choice.
-
Agree 100%. You won't be happy with 3.55's and 31" tires. You will still be luggin' especially on grades, and MPG will suffer. 4.10s and 31's are a nearly perfect marriage.
-
MJ's are the 200mm/H6054 style correct? Correct Can anybody recommended any bulbs? I've used IPF H4s for years in all the Benz's I used to have. They can usually be found on Ebay at good prices. In my experience, they last a lot longer than the other H4s. 60-70 watts max LO beam is all you will ever need with the Hella E-code shells. I seldom use the HI beams, don't really need them w. the better lenses and reflectors in Hella shells. It seems the Hella 60/55W Xenon 50+ seem to be a good deal. I wonder how good they are? Never tried them, and they are not true Xenons in a halogen setup. BTW do you know the coupon code? :dunno:

Here's what the switch looked like in the pre-96 XJs. AFAIK the earliest use of the extended idle option was in the 1992 "police Package" XJs. Click Here -
Here's one vendor; I got the Hella shells here: http://www.rallylights.com/ Notice that the prices have gone up a bit though. :(

From the FSM: With a vacuum gauge hooked up on the intake on a warm engine, a healthy engine at idle vacuum should read steady 15 to 20 in Hg. At 2000 rpm it should read steady 19 to 21 in Hg. At WOT it should read close to 0 in Hg. A decelerating engine reading should jump to 21 to 27 in Hg as open throttle released. But I don't think it's a vacuum problem; I think the vanes on the water pump impeller have corroded to about 1/2 the original size and coolant circulation through the heater core is poor at idle, especially if the core is semi-clogged.

Okay - didn't know that. In fact, don't know much at all about diesels. :brows: There's a thread over on NAXJA that lists various years and models of XJs and MJs and details how an extended idle circuit is wired in by using the ECU and the aformentioned power steering switch. Don't remember seeing the diesel listed though....... -

I know on the 2.5 engines there is a switch on the power steering pump that bumps up the idle a few hundred RPM when turning the wheels near the stops to prevent stalling. Do the diesels have that setup? Or is that what you are calling the APPS circuit? -
MJ Wheel Stance WITH PICS WAHOO!
HOrnbrod replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I saw those Wahoo, but they don't look like they are hubcentric. Sent the guy an email to ask and he never replied. So I went w. the SpiderTracs.
