  1. The 2.5 ohms show the field winding isn't open, so that's good. The code 41 is really just an indication that the ECU isn't seeing the the alt and it's not charging. There are many causes that will flash the 41 code. I'm about out of ideas and at this point would start searching for others (especially early XJ HO owners) who had code 41 and what was their fix.
  2. 31". It's tight. I had to wrap the pipes to prevent cooking the tire.......
  3. Excellent, and congratulations. Then you can buy your groceries at Elmendorf.
  4. Going to look good mate.
  5. Interesting. They are not shown in the 2000 XJ parts manual, or any other. Confused...
  6. Chump change.
  7. Anyone seen these before? This pic shows these clips on an XJ fuel rail supply line. I've never seen them before, and they are not shown in the parts manuals.
  8. I get a single sentence email from him every few months or so asking how I'm doing. I reply every time, but never get a response. So he's still hanging in there. I miss all the email we used to do back-channel.
  9. Good to see the seed germinated in your fertile mind. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-JEEP-LIBERTY-JET-LEATHER-WRAPPED-STEERING-WHEEL-W-CONTROLS-BLACK-IN-COLOR/112851820881?epid=5007769345&hash=item1a467e2151:g:deYAAOSwVqlZ7U3h&vxp=mtr
  10. Mnkyboy don't want or need no sound deadening when he gets that supercharger spooled up. That's sweet music..
  11. Good advice. I tried several bars before I found the perfect one. The ADDCO kit for the SWB is terribly designed, and mounts the bar on the upper shock mounts using "L" brackets. It should be mounted solidly on the frame. EDIT: Jeep Driver should restore his pics back to his original thread if possible - it's the one I went by when I did my LWB rear bar. Good design for the SWB....
  12. Just a silver/chrome spoke wheel example.
  13. Just because a part is changed to something different doesn't mean it's an upgrade. In this case an original with silver spokes would look better IMO.
  14. I replaced my tranny coolant lines years ago with those same Dorman lines. The tranny end was fine - no leaks ever, but the radiator end always seeped fluid around those four tabs. They only leaked out a few drops, but both connectors were always wet. So I converted those two ends to hose and barb using fuel injection clamps, no more leaks. Hopefully they stay dry for you....
  15. Glad I went to bed early last night....
  16. The good: 87K miles. That's it, if it's true. The power plants for 1986 all suck in varying degrees, and parts are not easy to find for the carburetor models. My main concern would be the body seeing that it's an Ohio truck. If it has good bones w. zero or minor rot and was garaged most of it's life, grab it if the price is reasonable. If not, pass. I've seen a lot of one-owner pristine 86's with low mileage lately. The drivetrain can be replaced/modernized for a lot less $$ than a rusted out body.
  17. Well, you can use the external regulator or fix it right. Get rid of the 41 code and your charging problem goes away w/o using the external regulator. I think it a wiring problem and something's open in the field wire circuitry. I'd also try cleaning up all the alternator connections and pull the ECU 60-pin connector and clean up both the male and female connectors. The ECU might be bad too, but I don't think so. Do an ohms check across the two field connections.
  18. That's where these were made too:
  19. There are only three electrical connections on the HO speedo. Why not insulate them from the cluster PC foil strip and just run separate hard wires to them?
  20. I don't know how you got the "black box" connector off the end of the engine wiring harness unless the PO cut it off for the external regulator. Where are the two field wires from the engine harness entering the "black box" molded connector? According to my FSM, one wire is GRY; the other GRN/RED. They are supposed to be in the wiring harness and entering the molded connector at the yellow arrow in the 2nd picture.
  21. Like I said I just glanced - all of a minute or two because I didn't really care.
  22. Very knowledgeable forum member who's always willing to share with the group. The CC forum is fortunate to have you.
