  1. I did not say the 2WD and 4WD TCU and ECU would not work or not run in either configuration, I said they are different. I'm not doubting you either. I have no idea of the internal differences of either module. But, to avoid OBD1 fault codes, the TCU and ECU modules should conform to the specs of the drivetrain they were designed for. Have you tried checking for fault codes on your rig?
  2. If you can Jim whenever you have the time on the Ariel that would be great. No hurry mate. Complete and running or parked for years and frozen?
  3. There is some bum dope above, I'm not going to sift through it. Yes, the 2WD MJ will come with a 2WD AW4. In order to modify the 2WD AW4 for 4WD, you will need to swap out the 2WD tail extension for the 4WD transfer case adapter. This will require a different output shaft to adapt to the transfer case, and a complete teardown of the 2WD AW4. Not economically feasible. The best option is to swap in a 4WD AW4 from a donor. Then do the transfer case swap etc.. The MJ AW4 transmission harnesses are not the same physically, but functionally are the same. It can be cut and spliced to work, but the sensors like the speed sensor moves from the 2WD AW4 tail extension into the transfer case and other differences, so again it makes sense to use a harness from a 4WD w. AW4 92-95 XJ or 91-92 MJ donor. Other things that need to be addressed are the ECU; the 2WD and 4WD ECUs are not the same, likewise for the TCU (transmission control unit). The connectors are the same, but their function internally is different for 2WD vs. 4WD. Another good reason to use a harness from a 4WD XJ or MJ to save you grief on the wiring and keep it simple.
  4. Anything current of the Ariel?
  5. Cooper Destination? Do you mean Firestone Destination? They are decent, but I prefer Michelin LTX's. A little more up front, but they outlast everything else.

    Whatever floats your boat mate.
  7. Yes, you have a D35C axle. C = Custom. You do not have a C-clip axle (if it's original). Those did not happen until 1990. I have a 1991. When I had a D35 the housing was stamped D35C just like your axle. But since it's a 91, it has C-clip axles. Your's does not.
  8. Nothing is custom about the axle - they were all the same. It meant that the axle was delivered from Dana to AMC or later Chrysler as an incomplete assembly, then assembled at the Jeep plant to a complete axle unit with specified gear ratios, open or Trak-Loc diffs, etc. depending on the demand. Most likely to save $$. Same thing as some of the Jeep export models designated as EXPs. They were shipped to certain countries as part assemblies then fully assembled at the host country plant.
  9. An 86 Dana 35 shouldn't have C-clips. It should have tapered roller bearings similar to a Dana 44 for wheel bearings. It's still a 27 spline axle though so don't go hammering on it. A LocRite or Aussie locker will give you a lot more traction in 2WD. The OP's signature says it is a c-clip diff :dunno:.....and from what my research shows the Lokka locker above that I link to.....is basically a different name for an Aussie The "Dana 35C" in the OP's signature stands for custom, meaning it came from the Dana factory not completely assembled. The C has nothing to do with whether it has c-clips or not.
  10. Sure does. She's gorgeous.
  11. Then bring it to a local muffler shop. That's their business. They'll probably use an aftermarket hanger.
  12. Same part number for both.
  13. No, it will be just the bracket, part #9 as pictured in the parts diagram previously.
  14. Thanks danby. I saw this post and was going to reply, but you already did for me. Nothing has changed since I originally posted that, and I might add that Hesco recommends Chevron Delo 400 LE 15w40 also. And it still has the highest zinc count so no additives are needed.
  15. Thanks guys. The reason I'm asking is because I picked up for cheap a regulation NOS AMC D44 rear gear set (standard cut, includes ring, pinion, bearings, gasket) in a weird 4.27 ratio. In crossing the AMC part number it fits 84-91 Jeep Grand Wagoneer SJ rear D44 axles. So I'm assuming it will fit all D44s with the correct carrier. I'm not planning on using it, but reselling it. I have not heard of the 4.27 ratio for D44s, and it would be a good ratio for a rig with 32-34 inch tires. It's in an AMC factory box, and the R&P gears are Dana Spicer. In searching some more, I found plenty of 4.27 aftermarket gears for front and rear D44s.
  16. Which header did you have to rework? It might help the next guy contemplating mounting a 99+ intake.
  17. Do a search for AIRTEX Part # 1P1190. That's the headlight switch connector you need, but verify it first. RockAuto carries them among others.
  18. I realize these axles are wider, but will a ring and pinion gear set from one of the SJ rear axles work in the XJ/MJ rear D44? The pumpkins are the same, si?
  19. What year?? https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=c40904cfda278a46&id=C40904CFDA278A46!115
  20. Let's see some proof. I'm curious.
  21. Illusion. The long board laying on the hood is weighing the front end down.
  22. The OD is to small. It's 1 inch. Has to be 1 1/8. No such animal that I can find with that OD and ID.
  23. It would be nice if you edited your signature to include year, model, engine, etc. for your rig so we'd know which distributor you are referring to.
  24. Pete, I was surprised at the size of the air gap. I thought it would be much tighter. Wonder if the HO gap is also as large. :hmm:
  25. Well yeah it will bolt on if you swap the A/C over to the HO config. BTW, there is a Renix A/C delete bracket available (p/n 53002904, #9 below) for $95 on http://collectorsautosupply.com/. That's w/o the pulley, but they are plentiful.
