Comanche Fan

Comanche Fan (3/11)

  1. Finished up a few odds and ends yesterday... I went through and cleaned up all the wiring in the dash, finally got rid of all the HVAC crap and insulated my blower system, re configured my AC controls and sorted my sound system out (still getting a small 'pop' from the woofer when the system is turned off) I also put the newer style face on my mechanical speedo. Pretty happy with the set up for now
  2. I had to remove mine several times but never had to fix any structural cracks- IMO a decent epoxy should do the trick if its something minor. If its structurally compromised your best bet would be fiberglass. Hope this helps
  3. Stock mj/xj 96- are one molded piece of plastic. Dash has to come out to fix the crack but its not that big of a chore. First remove the dash bezel- two screws above the inst panel, the the rest are just clips. Then the lower dash cover- 4 or 5 screws across the top. Then unplug snd remove your inst cluster- be careful with the speedo cable (I found it helpful to get a set of pliers and a dmall towel to LIGHTLY pinch it and carefully move the cable shaft out) Then remove whatever else is wired up- ac controls, stereo, clock etc Next youll need to remove the defrost cover at the top- a couple screws Under the cover there are three mounting brackets riveted to the dash screwed into the firewall. The windshield makes it difficilt to get to them bur a 3" phillips works great. Last, there are 15mm bolts under the dash behind where the lower cover was- one on each kick panel. I found it easier to just loosen them rather than removing them The dash mounts are slotted and it has to be pulled forward and rotated around the bolts. Once its loose pull it up and over the steering wheel and out the pass door. Not terribly difficult but help to have a second srt of hands.
  4. My only reason for possibly going doorless would be for fun cruising around town. My mj is a 2wd pavement princess and has never seen more action than the PO's back yard and a few dirt roads. I had a Wrangler years ago and loved that I could take the doors/top off whenever I wanted. I love my MJ but the only thing that has kept me from trading for a wrangler is its ac in this florida heat...
  5. K I know theres a good reason I'm just trying to understand
  6. I don't understand why the hinges have to be removed? You can tap/drill them out with the doors and hinges on the truck?
  7. $#!&... just went to check and my hood cable snapped
  8. I have mildly entertained the idea of going doorless but after reading up on it I don't quite understand why Mj/Xj owners are cutting the bottoms off their hinges? Why can't you just drill the pin out and stick a one sided pin in the hinges without any modification?
  9. With my new harness setup and external voltage regulator my alt is putting out about 14.5V steady- no change with headlights, ac, stereo amp and sub cranked up. Will the draw on my alt really be that bad for a single e-fan run through a relay switch by a temp sensor? Also what temp sensor can be pulled from the JY and are their different ways to install them? I read a thread on JF where a guy had his efan triggered by a chevy sensor wedged in the radiator. I'm looking to do something a bit less ghetto but the seeming simplicity has my head spinning with ideas qnd questions
  10. Hot damn that is a clean engine bay
  11. Lol Noticable ride difference? Better MPG? And what motor are you running?
  12. I just finished modifying and installing my Renix harness and am very pleased with the results. Unfortunately all that work seems to only be noticable at idle so I have begun searching for my next upgrade and want the biggest bang for my $. After some searching it seems like alot of people have swapped in an Efan from a taurus for relatively little money and completely removed the metal fan and clutch. My 2.5 has the idiot light temp sensors still in it. I have a set of full gauges in it but havent tackled the sensor issue yet. I would like to pull parts from the jy for this so what vehicle am I looking for a temp sensor in? Second question is for those who have done the Efan swap- besides cooling more efficiently were there any other noticable improvements? (MPG, butt dyno, etc)
  13. Thanks!I got the vinyl made at the flea market and have since seen several white jeeps around tampa sporting the same damn sticker lol... I want to have a 9/11 type sticker done depicting the death star with "never forget" written under it.
