  1. You probably have wind noise from the driver's seat cushion. I know you do. And you should know what's the purpose of these seals. Were there complaints about early XJ's leaking or wind noise around the A-pillar? Or did you retire from your dealership before they started making XJs?
  2. I don't have any wind noise. :P And I don't think that's what they are for anyhow, but I can't prove it. They weren't available until 1994, so for Jeep to manufacture them there must have been complaints about the earlier models. And they did leak around the A-pillars.
  3. Prevent water entry? :dunno:
  4. Curious as to what hate you got for driving a Miata. Was it from the terrible Ohio drivers? Or from other ricers as you once were? I've been to Dayton many times, it's a great town and the folks love their Flyers. Anyhow, welcome to the club - looks like you have a very clean MJ.
  5. Where's your MAP sensor? Or is that a 96 or higher XJ? And why didn't you just turn your the valve cover elbow going to the cowl CAI 180* to get rid of all the 90* bends? Does your cruise work? I like to ask questions.
  6. Brickmiata is going to love this post.
  7. Pull the thermostat and try it again.
  8. If you have fixed it, the 15 code would have cleared itself after a minimum of 50 keystroke cycles (IGN ON-OFF). But why wait?
  9. From an old post: The old AMC canisters in the 80's (p/n 33002870) had a replaceable filter on the bottom like in your picture. You could also change out the activated charcoal at the same time. Unfortunately they are now obsolete unless you find one at the junkyard. The ones used now, p/n 53030500, are sealed units and not serviceable. When they don't function anymore you replace it, ~ $30-$40 aftermarket. Depending on conditions, they are normally good for ~90K miles. Mine started smelling at about 100K miles and I replaced it. They require an additional vacuum line from the intake manifold. 53030500 33002870
  10. To add to this, the oil pressure and coolant temperature mechanical gauges remained consistent throughout the MJ years and the same senders are used on both the Renix and HO clusters for these two gauges. The only exception is the oil pressure sensor for the 92 MJs as they had a 2-wire sensor vs. the older single wire sensor. The best way to find the correct sender you need is to come in armed with the factory part number. Most auto parts chain stores have an accurate cross reference for factory-to-aftermarket part numbers. It's better than depending on the counter parts drone and his often flawed database. Factory MJ p/n's are as follows for the temp and oil pressure gauge senders: 56026782, SENDING UNIT, Oil Pressure, 86-91 56026779, SENDING UNIT, Oil Pressure, 92 (2-pin connector) 53005309, SENDING UNIT, Temperature, w/Gauge, 86-91 56027012, SENDING UNIT, Temperature, 92
  11. Did you clear your codes after replacing the sensor?
  12. There are never enough options.
  13. Bo beat me. :fs1: Anyhow, 1987-1988 Dodge Dakota Tail Light W/ Chrome Trim. Wish they would fit our MJs.
  14. Confucius says: Nothing is written stone when referring to Jeeps.
  15. Got a ballast resistor on it? If so try jumpering across it.
  16. Just below the second freeze plug from the back.
  17. ^^ Where is the coolant block drain plug above?
  18. Nope. He's getting a winner, she's getting a Jarhead. But I'm sure she knew what she was getting into. Congratulations to both of you.
  19. Nice find Terra. AMC 20 rear, Dana 30 front, 4.10 gears, and the 2.1. Sounds like all the best hard parts are there.
  20. Every car on earth has inline vacuum check valves. They are available to fit any size tubing. The auto parts chain stores all carry them. As far as placement, already explained.
  21. Factory vacuum supply setup, intake manifold to reservoir: Junk the reservoir behind the bumper and move it into the engine bay. Here's how I did it: http://comancheclub.com/topic/16154-vacuum-reservoir-relocation/?hl=vacuum I use two check valves; one at the intake manifold vacuum source line, and one just before the reservoir.
  22. It looks like the original hanger rod that was welded on the factory pipe is gone and someone did a repair for a kludge hanger. :dunno:
