Getting ready to pull the trigger on this. Can anyone that has used this on a Renix elaborate on the fitment ? Looks nice but we all know everything is not totally bolt in. Just want to feel more comfortable ordering something that is not listed for a 1989 MJ application. Thanks

Bleeding brakes - what am I forgetting?
PIKE replied to JefCooks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank you, I don't feel so bad now. That's exactly what I did. Wish you were there to yell at me at the time. Lots of peddle pumping and bleeding until I figured it out. I'm wondering if that's what JefCooks did too. Hope he responds. I'm guessing a new thread could be started about repair faux pas. My rear brake debacle is not the only one I have made. -

Am I the only guy that has ever done this? Or the only one to admit doing it. -

I replaced rear brake calipers on my 97 Grand Cherokee, there is a right and a left. I put them opposite of where they should be. No brakes. -
Thank you. Interesting, I followed your link and it shows only fitting 1991-2001. Obviously it works from your pics. Never thought anyone made a kit for older MJ's

Very nice. I have never seen a cold air intake like that on a Renix before. Would be interested to know about it. I have a 89 4.0 too. Thanks

If you are looking for the toughest tire out there in that size I would suggest Cooper Discoverer® S/T MAXX I would place them in between an AT and Mud tire. This is a rugged tire, actually 9 ply's, I had Goodyear Duratracs before, 6ply.

Getting Discouraged with my MJ (radiator issues)
PIKE replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Have been running mine that way for that many years too. So simple. Especially since the 2.5 expansion bottle bolts right in. The mounting holes are already there. -

The Macs Tank uses a standard open system radiator cap. Yes, it flows in and out of the open system radiator cap. The Macs tank uses the same cap that would be on a later model jeep that has an open system. -

Now you are getting me confused, haha. The Mac tank has a open system radiator cap. Think of it as an extension of your radiator, that's why the Mac tank should be full. The small hose that comes off the tank under the radiator cap should go to the bottom of an expansion bottle. When your motor heats up fluid expands into the bottle, during cool down it gets sucked back into the Mac tank. Your expansion bottle should have fluid in it too, whether hot or cold. Half full would be a good place to start. -

Your making this too complicated. MAC Tank + Expansion bottle = Open System Its that easy. Your mechanic has it together correctly. Mac tank should be full. -
Ok, I will start. I like the Bilstein 5125 https://offroad.bilstein.com/en-us/products/bilstein-b8-5125/

Occasional noise when heat is turned on
PIKE replied to Classy Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
And you are absolutely correct. The older 4.0 tensioning scheme for the XJ and MJ sucked. It was much harder to get sufficient tension than with the later system (which, unfortunately was used only on the later XJ's.) Has anyone ever attempted to mod the later XJ's tensioner system to the older Renix engines? -

suddenly difficult shifts at lower gears (manual)
PIKE replied to brucecooner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only time I had a problem with shifting was when I needed to bleed the clutch system. I used Cruisers procedure and all is good. I just recommend RedLine because i don't think it is snake oil and good for our manual transmissions. -

Front axle help in my 88 MJ
PIKE replied to vanquishings's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Kind of late here too. I just went through my 89 D30 axle. To change to a one piece axle I went with 1997 ZJ CV shafts. At $45.00 a Piece what did i have to loose. They come stock on a V8 Grand Cherokee. I have a 97 Grand Cherokee V8 and used the same shafts and they have been going good.. Never had a problem. That's why I decided to use them for my CAD delete conversion. No problems at all. Must say I am not a rock crawler, but I do have 33r10.5-33 on my MJ. So far great. FYI You have to remove the ABS tone rings. They are pressed on, no big deal. Any way just my 2 cents https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=534817&cc=1182237&pt=2288&jsn=919&_nck=Ekt6BqBF1pwlXdx0gYlm1esw98pF26vehMm%2FGG3C%2Fl2QOXSJubi7WSpUmUSdg3OxWOs2f5z9h422EONy36O0PjCuaadDqI1r86y%2FvJ1lBqy8eOR0sg7BszdZN4sjtsowhx3trFNVkOC9ShEq4yvq9czhtKw7wHUD4tkai4dC6ChdwdIF6%2Blha7y3cZF0JchS%2Bisd9bp8CJWvYpk1E%2Fhj3sa08%2FC%2Fj%2FbHeocDrxJN5lDcbhXQOhnOg4SPFhGgwR2TbbN1ScHVqLCU5ts8z0q76uU7F%2FchlNUPDT09Qgcm%2BXDoY7KIeaFmmz0MXsjCHgp%2Fgem2jgs0S5wwSY7eXEKdMbHm8mRNK7SHggWde4G%2FiRFz3ZjY9tolWl0vT%2F1%2FKpwGN%2BZ1KWsZYmO1yGRFJ%2BWsWQ%3D%3D -
89 Jeep Comanche wiper motor problems...
PIKE replied to Andy in Pa's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do we always have a choice? I wouldn't trade my Milwaukee cordless tools for anything. China learned how to make stuff just as good as we do. Its all about how it is specified to be made. Go to White's boots and see how much it cost to buy a pair of hand made in America boots. I buy made in USA when I can. Its more complicated than just saying made in China is crap.
