We had three 97's in the department and auctioned them last year. As far as I know they were normal in all respects and used by the training personnel to haul crap. All of them had about 75-100K miles and went for around 1200.00 The only comment I would make about old police units (of any sort) is most have had various folks work on the wiring systems, and about half of those individuals really didn't understand what they were doing. I can't tell you how many that have been auctioned off that later are seen dead on the roadside during the trip home... :redX:

Yeah, I know. Now can you take these needlenose and reach down in there and get that hook loose?

Ok lets talk metric tonne springs
Akula69 replied to watchamakalit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hmmm...still waiting to see how much they might run (from what I can tell son's are sagging about 1/2 "). Now, another question: He doesn't get a lot of 'bounding' (of the backend) when the bed is empty, but I imagine that brand new springs might have that effect. If anyone has replaced thiers can you chime in here and let us know? -
Oh My God.... there can be Christmas in February! :clapping: edit - well crap...it sounded good!

Thats why they call them PUSH bumpers. :D We still treat them very gingerly because it has been proven that they will set off the air bags.... but thankfully most of the new units are coming in without them. And yeah, the tow guys around here are quite competitive to the point we had to establish a log to keep track of who got the next tow.

Geez CW...I go away for a little while and you up and try to die on us!!!! Really though - I'm glad they caught it and you're OK. Yes, welcome to the cardiac club...I am a member as well. 02/08 with a single instance of a heartbeat of 20 I was told I should get a pacemaker.....at 47. Not a fun time had by all, let alone me. I'm the youngest guy the Doc ever put one in. However, I am living proof you can beat it and go on. I run every day now (or almost every day) and have gotten back to the Cooper standards of 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes. When the 'boss' lets you out, come on down and we'll have you comparing stories with the 19 year olds in no time!

Sometimes we think so much alike is scares me...

Ya know, I am not racist...most of the so-called 'profiling' that I do is to look for white folks in the black areas 'cause they are the ones buying the drugs (lol - they got money). I have to tell you - the kind of crap that is in this video is what will cause the majority of folks to turn against Obama the next time around, whether he does a good job or not. Most folks wanted change...not ghetto.

Engine compartment light?

I can't let this one go, especially since you offered...so tell us, how do you know? I only ask because I hate clocksprings, especially the ones in small 2 and 4 cycle engines that use recoil starter assemblies. I've been owned more than once by them..... please share your experience with them, so I can laugh at someone else's misfortune other than mine, for once ;) Jeff Well, the one that I finally decided to try and repair had been jammed by the PO, and after examining it for awhile I drilled out the 5 rivets surrounding the edge of the case, grasped both halfs and pulled hard. The damn clock spring emerged from all sides of the newly created opening and several loops actually sprang right out at my face. Having no idea that the thing was possessed and wanted to slice my nose off (or worse), I abruptly yelled everyone's favorite adjective and threw it towards the ground, which only caused the evil spring to expand even further. When it finally finished flopping around like a beached fish, I grasped it firmly and finished the eviseration. After carefully examining the parts, I noted the clock spring had been contained in a steel circle that had several pieces of steel across it. I re-seated the bent end of the spring, and then proceeded to cut the $h!t out of my fingers trying to feed it back into the "cage". Eventually, I managed to restrain it in the correct position, which could be compared to herding cats. Compared to that feat, the rest of the re-assembly was anticlimatical. Now that I have done it, I will gladly re-build anyone's underhood light that wants me to do so, but understand when I tell you I will wrap the damn thing in a blanket first when I take it apart.... -
Engine compartment light?

I have found many of them trashed as well. It could not be the mercury...as the amount is small at best. Most of the time folks either mess with them because they can (i.e. - "I don't know what it is but lets break it"), or they came in broken because the owner didn't know how to fix them. The internals are simplistic (except for the clock spring...be wwwery careful there - ask me how I know)....most I have seen have been hanging out and won't retract apparentl;y because the PO pulled it out and didn't feed them back in with care, causing the cable to get kinked or snagged. -

My last switch/electirical woe, I hope...

The high beam sequence is controlled by a rod that extends down the steering column. It will go from inside the top shroud down the column on the left side to the center of a switch that is mounted on the opposite side from the ignition switch plugs. It has a wire that plugs into it, and is adjusted by loosening the locking nut at the back and the small bolt in the front. I suspect that, if the high beams will flash but not stay on, the wiring is correct but the switch needs adjustment upward (towards the driver). A way to check is to grasp the rod with your hand and push it towards the switch (on the column - not the stalk but towards the firewall). If you don't feel and hear the audible 'click', the switch needs to be closer as the rod is not quite activating the mechanism. Let us know how it turns out. -
Well shoot, whats wrong with it? You get your starch and protein at the same time! :D
