  1. I realize there have been several folks here that have had oil pressure issues, and after searching the threads I still have a couple of questions. First, I have the 89 4.0L with 269,000 on the clock. The PO told me the lower (block) engine had been gone through in the last 25K miles with a new crank, bearings and a high volume oil pump. I have not has the pan off to check (and the PO could not find the paperwok for the re-build), but after I replaced the dash cluster several days ago I have been watching the oil pressure gauge and have noticed the following: With new 10-40 oil and a Fram (yes I know, I had it on the shelf already) I get: 65-70 PSI at cold start 60 PSI at idle after 4-5 minutes that surges to 65 PSI upon application of throttle 30-40 PSI at idle (in gear) after 15 minutes that surges to 65 PSI upon application of throttle Can anyone advise if these are normal? I wonder if under throttle the 65 PSI will be a bit high for the main seals... :dunno: Thanks
  2. Can't really see the dash well, but it appears he has an electronic gauge package with read display?
  3. Why not just hide a key on the outside of the vehicle somewhere?
  4. I can't really see the shape of the plug itself, but I'd guess it was either for a underhood light or perhaps the cruise control? :dunno:

  8. The trouble is, there are some folks who are dumb enough to harm themselves, then hire an attorney and sue the government for not protecting them from it. Freedom is a gift, to be sure, paid for on the backs of those who died fighting for it. They didn't even know what Marijuana was back then...so how has a "belief" that has been forced upon us change things now? A society without reasonable laws (made by the people, by the way) that are enforced by folks who toil under reasonable doubt is anarchy, and all you have to do is look at Somolia to realize that doesn't work.

  10. Same drug schedule - same penalties and laws apply. You miss the point....there is never going to be a way to make everyone happy in that picture. Just to make it real - think about this: the government taxes and has made it legal for adults to smoke cigarettes, but people still smuggle them...therefore your logic about legalizing it does not fly. You have been listening too much to your sheriff when he wants more money. I'll say it again...it costs the same to house 200 prisoners as it does to house 400...the jail staff still get paid, the jail doctor still gets paid, and so on. Nope, wrong again. I gave that example to show you that folks will do what ever they want despite laws to the contrary. If we legalize Marijuana, then the herion folks will want it legalized, and the Meth folks will want it legalized. The line must be drawn somewhere, and for fairness it is drawn where the controlled substances are listed in schedules.

  14. Now, you guys knew I would jump in here sooner or later, right? OK - here is the other side of this debate: First, Marijunana is an illegal substance for a number of reasons, mainly because the federal government says it is. Various courts across the country have taken this issue on numerous times, and almost always found the law to be upheld. Mass. is walking a fine line here as the feds can and will withhold certain federal funds if the federal laws are not enforced. Healthwise: if you have ever seen the images of a cigarette smoker's lungs, you know what tar and nicotine does to them. An unfiltered cigarette is even worse, but no-one has figured out how to filter a joint without filtering out the majority of the desired chemical (THC). So smoking dope really does hurt you, even more then cigarettes. There have also been studies out the a$$ showing that THC accelerates the breakdown of brain conncetivity tissues (thats why they perscribe it sick people for pain - it deadens and then kills the pain receptors in the brain). And I guess this is appropo: How may old drug users have you ever seen? (in real life). Secondly, legalizing a schedule IV drug is silly and will not work for two main reasons: (1) We have already legalized some drugs in that class (Hydrocodone, anyone?) and the funny thing is, folks still sumggle them around, sell them illegally, and take them illegally. (2) You cannot expect the folks that are making money off of this illegal activity to just suddenly become "mainstream" - they've been running the show for too long. If their market was suddenly gone they would jealously fight to maintain thier profits, and mass drug wars would ensue. Don't believe me? just ask your dealer what he would do for a living if the dope was legal. If he doesn't kill you on the spot he'll probably laugh in your face. Third, we tried the reverse of this awhile back...called it prohibition. What a joke that was as people violated the law left, right, and up the center. If we legalize marijuana, what would be next? Fourth, The cost of law enforcement is the same whether I am arresting a drunk, or a doper. Actually, the real drag is on me, because I have unbelieveable amounts of paperwork to do when I arrest someone (for any offense). The jails are staffed whether they are full or not, and the courthouse folks show up every workday whether there are trials or not. Besides, how many of you have heard about, (or known) someone who has been killed by a driver who was drunk? We can't catch them all now, and we want to add dopers to that group? I'd personally want to catch them before they decide to drive doped up. In reality, the fact is if I catch an idiot with a couple of joints I usually grind them under my boot on the asphalt, write down thier name in by little book, and tell them I'd better not catch them again. If they are horse's a$$es about it, or if they have more then a little they take the ride.

  16. Up under the dash on each side. The driver's side will be a black plug with three wires (two black, one pink) and on the dash harness near the location for the door harness plug. The passenger side will be a blck plug with two wires (one black and one pink). Here is a pic of the passenger side with the sub harness attached: (sorry about the blurryness) You can get the sub harnesses off of most any XJ (that is not a sport model). HTH
  17. Geez Brent, of all the folks I thought you'd be the one to hang on. I'm sorry to hear it. I will be praying for you, and if I hear of anything I'll give you a call.
  18. While I certainly agree that the post is funny in a sad sort of way, it happens all to frequently in this day and age. My purpose for this little story was to show that there are many folks in this day and age who have made it thier business (or political platform, or claim to fame, or fill in your own rationale) to make a public spectecle of others unfortunate situations. In some cases we have had individuals actually manufacture lies for the press in an attempt to increase thier stature. (remember Tawana Brawley as written by Al Sharpton?). We also had cases where we watched in rapt horror while folks got away with pure stupidity that we would have certainly been fired from our job for or even proscuted if we had done the same (Remember 'ole Slick Willie not having sex with Monica?). I believe that, on the eve of what could be the most momentus election in our country's history, we need to be very careful what we believe in and subscribe to. Here in Lousisiana a sense of entitlement has always been an undercurrent of this society, but lately an unbelieveable groundswell has sprung up virtually overnight. We have had the greatest uptick in voter enrollment in history, and the story is virtually the same wherever you look ...... "When (fill in the blank) gets elected, he will take care of me and give me what I deserve." I'm not sure when we became the 'its all about me" generation...maybe it was when we saw the folks on Wall street raking in the dough back in the late 1990's, or when we saw inept government folks handing out freebees to people we knew didn't need them. I saw it all the time in folks I'd catch breaking the law - it was always the parents fault, or the government had cut off thier welfare, or so on. It was never thier fault. But the moral of the story above is going to come home to roost very soon for most of us hard working folks....You need to take care of yourself, and start doing it soon....because the line for handouts is long and many, many more folks are jumping the line every day. As for me? I don't know about you but I'm pretty much at the end of the line. off
  19. Been lurking on this one and glad you got t going well again.
  20. I am not totally sure about this, but if you have a floor shift, can you not remove the lower dash valance, lover the steering column slightly (or more if you have fat hands like me) and disconnect the interlink for the key switch at the pull rod (near middle of column on outside top) and then just move the floor shift? Just a thought. If so, there would be no need to re-adjust the traans linkage.
  21. Hmmm. I guess we'll see...too late for LSU to get a bowl slot, but we can still screw up someone else's chances! The only problem is, someone is still gonna have to whip the Gators in the SEC championship.
  22. If you can get under the vehicle, and don't care about re-aligning the transmission later, you can pop the shift cable off the shift lever on the side of the transmission and shift is manually there. You also need to put the transfer case in neutral. MAKE DAYMN SURE YOU BLOCK TIRES FIRST !! I also have two ignition lock sets if that becomes necessary. Good Luck
  23. I had the same problem when I swapped clusters...I thought it was a bad cluster and got another one. Unfortunately, the new cluster does the same thing. I have just completed a complete "go thru" of all the interior wiring and corrected all problems...so I have no idea what the cause could be. :dunno: The only common characteristic is that it only happens when the headlights are on. Otherwise, it performs as it is supposed to. If you figure it out please let us know.
  24. Pete indicates positions are OK as long as it remains civil. This is about as civil as it gets. :D
  25. Grasshopper and the Ant OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself! MODERN VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.' Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, 'We shall overcome.' Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake. Nancy Pelosi , John Kerry, and Barack Obama exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. Hillary, ever present, gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case. The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood. MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2008 If a man empties his purse into his head no one can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.
