  1. LOL, yeah...but at 120 clams each I don't wanna have premature bearing failure in the hub.
  2. Can anyone advise the correct torque for the sub axle nuy on the front (non 4WD) hub? Since the hub replacement I am now getting a "roaring" sound from the front. I cannot locate it's origion, but it only occurs in first gear at accelleration. I'm hoping I over-torqued the hub nuts (and it's not the AW4). Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks guys - I appreciate the answers. :D I could never get the daymn things loose, even with a pipe wrench. I re-positioned the spring compressers and disconnected the steering arm (to drop the axle further). I finally got them wiggled out of there and the new ones in. Took me about 3 hours to do a 1 hour job
  4. Does anyone have any experience removing front bump stops? I am replacing the coil springs on the XJ and am completely at a standstill. I have tried pipe wrenches and eveything else that will fit in there. I have the vehicle completely jacked up (by frame) and the axle is hanging to it's fullest extent (without discinnecting the trac bar). Shocks are off vehicle (for replacement). I do have the spring compressors on and compressed and the spring is free, but it will not come out due to the bump. Any speedy assistance is appreciated!
  5. Dunno about the three strikes rule. I am for it, but you have to admit some folks do have a different sense of humor then others. I guess the bottom line is that most folks like thier free speech, but this is a forum thats supplied at no expense to them. If they wanna 'play' here then its got to be by the rules.
  6. Eagle: Yeah, it is the '94 I'm working on, and it has the castle nut and stub spindle. The rotor does not have bearings in it and will come off of the hub assembly after the tire (and caliper) is removed. Although you reference that Chryco started using the hub/bearing assembly from the 4WD on the 2WD you also state there are three different types...thanks for the heads up! edit: I'm coming up with a part number of 53007449, but that is also the part number Chryco uses for the 4WD assembly axle and the YJ. There must be a sub-part number that I don't have. Genovast : didn't know that, researched, and you are correct. You're the first to notice after almost a year. Changed it.
  7. I am beginning some extensive work on the Daughter's XJ before she takes it off to college (groan!). I have been trying to shop for new front axle hubs but can't get some straight answers on fit (4WD vs 2WD) and I'm not willing to risk 200 clams on a mistake, so... Is there a different front axle hub for the 4WD dana30 and the 2WD axle? I have searched the forums and found several threads about replacing them, but none address the question. Thanks

    98 XJ Advice

Last night while working I came across a 98 XJ that was for sale/ It had been in a front end collision, and the hood, fenders, bunper, radiator and condensor were damaged. (They have now been removed). The rest of the exterior, engine and interior (blue) are in great shape with approx 160K on the clock. It has a clear title. The owner wants to sell it badly, is suggesting he'd like to get "about $500" for it. I suppose I could go to certifit and replace the sheetmetal (priced out at approximately $600), but I was kinda angling for the interior transplant for the MJ. Two questions: Can the cluster from the 98 work in the MJ? I realize some wiring would have to be brought over, but isn't the 98 cluster electric (rather then mechanical)? and What do you guys think is a fair offering for this jeep? Thanks!
  10. I think it's sold at Helm paint in Mandeville (by Banner Ford). Call them first.
  11. :hijack: Hehe yeah I keep a body bag (clean of course!) in the trunk of the unit for when we respond to the auto/deer accidents.
  12. Throttle - where you been? I passed your place Tuesday and no truck.....did you move?
  13. It is an 89, but I seem to remember that the AMC20 has a large 'pumpkin' ball rather then the smaller tapered one that the 35 has...I've looked under the thing and the differential looks just like the one on the 95XJ.
  14. I'm a little confused. I understand you are trying to slpice the rear MJ harness to the XJ harness....but are you also trying to connect the door/cross body harness to the dash harness? If so, the door/cross body harness on the truck I stripped a while back was connected under the driver's side kick plate. I can't help you with the Mj rear harness splice...sorry.
  15. Thanks guys - as you can probably tell axles are not my forte...
  16. Since your daughter's XJ is a 95, it has the D35 w. C-clip axle shafts. Any D35 older than 1991 will not work as they have the non C-clip axles. Exactly what I needed to know! Thank You!
  17. Full size. I am only interested in the axle shafts.....I want to clean them up and press new bearings on them for spares.
  18. A friend of mine that owns a small junkyard is getting ready to crush and sell some older cars for scrap. One of them happens to be a jeep waggoneer, which happens to have what appears to be a dana 35 in the back. Although I'd like to get the axles out of the rear , I can't seem to find out if all the axles are the same for all dana 35's. Can anyone advise on this? (i.e. - can I use them for the daughter's 95 XJ with a dana 35) Thanks
  19. Geez I need to read better. I thought it was a 4.0.
  20. Ok - I got a question - what will you replace the snapped bolts with? I'm not finding them available at any dealership that I've talked to....are you going with just standard ones?
  21. You can search around in here, there are several threads involved in duscussions of that process. It is not difficult at all, several new vaccum lines, a brake pedal switch, and an actuator under the hood. all the mounting holes exist already. Unfortunately, the major hangup is going to be the two piece speedometer cable. The short whip that goes from the back of the instrument cluster to the sub harness from the actuator is still available, but the cable that goes from the sub harness to the transmission is no longer available. You could probably find all the parts at a JY if you can locate an older XJ - most folks don't even know what the stuff is.
  22. That snow plow must be the cleanest I have ever seen. It does kinda suprise me though, I'd have thought those guys in DC would be using Hummers.
  23. I swear by the Remington...its a good all around weapon. We stil have them issued as a riot control weapon at the department. Reliable and durable...Mine had a bunch of sand in the action after Katrina and still functioned (grudgingly). Besides, when the country goes to hell in a hand basket you can always shorten the barrel and do the Mad Max thing.... :brows:
  24. Geez. I didn't realize that an old ball would garner so much interest :D  Hornbrod- the part number on it is EIEH-19A566-A. Its a round two-holer, and one hole is marked 'VAC', other is unmarked. The part number is stamped onto the seam the joins the two halfs together. It came from an '89 XJ that I stripped, However, my parts lists show the same info as SW2....the number on the ball does'nt seem to correspond to anything I can find... Simon - PM sent
  25. I have a guy in Mississippi that I bought wipes from for 32.00 shipped. PM me for his info if you want it.
