  1. Here in the country of Louisiana, you can get wildly different water quality depending on the aquifer your well is drilled into. I know this salesman "tested" the water for you, but I would strongly recommend you get the water analysed again by a independent lab before you try and decide what you might need. Here we use the local farm extension office (a facet of LSU) - take them several vials of water and in a few days they tell us all we need to know. The water softeners and treatment systems can get expensive quick.
  2. You may be correct. At 0.36 in the video there is seen a large dark spot directly over the painted line on the road, and there is a smaller dark spot to the inside of the left front tire. I suspect the first is the diff, but the second has to be something else, as you can still clearly see the left front tire and the sun is in the wrong position for it to be a shadow of that tire. edit: I suppose it could be the steering box, as it is left-hand drive. Dunno
  3. Backdraft/Mvusse - I have the very same symptoms, and sounds in the '89. It is true its not audible outside (or under) the truck. One difference though: Currently (because its about to go under the knife for a '89 to '99 swap and add 4WD) the front axle is solid w/o unit bearings (might eliminate some possibilities). It has a completely new front end including steering box, all ball joints, pitman arm, shocks, calipers/rotors/lines, steering dampner, track bar, tie rod and tie rod ends, new poly bushings on the tie rod ends and sway bar, new UCA and LCA. Even has a replacement track bar-to-frame mount bracket that we made sure did not have elongated holes ('cause the old one did). We had been trying to track it down for over a year, and finally just agreed with ourselves that its the brake pads shifting in the caliper and called it a day. I'm hoping that when we swap in the D30 from the '99 it'll just go away..
  4. Congrats!
  5. Most folks go back with the 1999+ XJ trim and avoid the hassle, but if you want some trim I have a set you can have. Its used, but in fairly good shape. If you want it PM me.
  6. What I was saying is - the stress on the steering unit PLUS the vaccum leak from the manifold will run the idle down to the numbers you posted. Not trying to be a smart @$$, but your symptoms seem to provide the answer. Some other ideas would be leaking or unplugged vaccum lines, or a defective vaccum line (you said you replaced them). Try this: With a manifold leak your idle should start out steady (when cold) and gradually climb as the engine becomes warm. There may also be a slight whine that sounds as if it is coming from the tranmission. Start the truck (and don't play with the steering). If the idle begins to climb on its own, unplug the vaccum line going to the MAP sensor - the engine should drop down to a 'loping' idle. If its not a vaccum leak - the engine will die. You can also easily check for vaccum leaks using carb cleaner: start engine and let it warm up, then carefully spray a jet of carb cleaner at each vaccum fitting and listen for a change in the idle. If none, then CAREFULLY spray it along the intake manifold, again listening for an idle change. I say carefully because the exhaust manifild is hot and will ignite the carb cleaner if you use too much. Get back with us after those two tests.
  7. If you are saying that when you turn the steering wheel to the "stop" it dies, you are creating an extreme pressure in the power steering system which is probably bogging down the engine. That, along with the manifold leak is probably enough to kill it.
  8. Just finished tearing apart the '99 that we are using for our conversion. The vaccum hose goes from the passenger front (at the ball inside the bumper) up into the passenger side of the engine compartment. It branches there for the cruise control, and then moves on to the main hose from the intake manifold. Right before it merges with the larger size hose it has a "T" for the vaccum fitting for the HVAC. My suggestions: 1) Check the ball is there and connected. 2) Check that there is actually a manifold connection to create vaccum. If both of those are OK then look at the line itself to ensure no breaks and all open holes are plugged.
  9. Hmmm. I guess the jumpmaster didn't like the 3/4 ton.
  10. Good advice. Once the dog is "use to" it's crate you have won 1/2 the battle.
  11. :dunno: The 99XJ that we bought for our 89MJ-99 conversion came with a 8.25 and the the factory towing package, and although I have not been in the pumpkin yet the tag says its a 3.73 (axle tube is bent on that one). The one we picked up a week ago at the yard came off a 96XJ 2 door with the factory towing package and it does have the 3.73 on the tag and inside.
  12. Irrational, I know. But how cool would it be to wheel and shoot zombies at the same time? http://wot.motortrend.com/volkswagen-amarok-m-ready-for-combat-217425.html#axzz2FcBLhT00

  14. um, there are a few folks on the forum who know a little about MJ's....whats wrong with it?
  15. My son's is 4 years older then he is...but sadly...I am 25 years older then the oldest MJ...
  16. Wow. Ya'll might want to read this if you use instagram for your pictures. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57559710-38/instagram-says-it-now-has-the-right-to-sell-your-photos/ Jake
  17. Wow. Out of all that no NOS bumper or anything? Bummer.
  18. When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones. Santa began to feel the pre-Christmas pressure. Then, Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa out even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys scattered. Frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of warm rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor...and in his frustration he dropped the cider jug and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had chewed off the straw at the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched over to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully "Merry Christmas Santa. Isn't it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?" And so began the tradition of the little angel at the top of the Christmas tree. Not a lot of people know this....
  19. I am unaware of any program that can "kill" the "special offers" (that are really advertisments) on the Kindle for free. I love the thing - read every day and the battery lasts at least 30 days. My father loves his Nook, but I'd research whether there is any truth in the buyout.....I can't find any right now (maybe they called it off?)
  20. Don - my wife and I are avid readers, and I first bought her a Kindle Touch without the "special ads" (that reduces the price by about $30 bucks). I liked it so much she started to complain she never got to use it!. We found the books ( in the E-version) were 10-50 percent cheaper on the Kindle). I then bought the terror-in-law a Kindle Touch with the ads - biggest mistake I ever made, as the ads scroll at the bottom of the screen when you are trying to read. When my son went off to college we got him a Kindle Fire, as the textbooks were $50-75 dollars less if you got them as E-books, and the color screen was handy for the illustrations. For Christmas my better half will get a Kindle Fire without the ads as well (so I can read in peace!). My dad has the Nook, but learned recently that Barnes and Noble will be selling the rights to it to a third party to generate revenue (to keep them alive). I don't know if that will shorten thier life or not. All-in-all, I would highly recommend the Kindle - we've never had a problem, and enjoy them.
  21. I've got an extra, buy it!
  22. Congratulations - great build!
  23. Just a shot in the dark: Have you checked the ignition switch down on the column? The 93 my daughter had was doing the same thing, and it ended up being the switch. It was partially melted and making intermittent contact.
  24. SEM Classic Coat 17233 is what I used. About 23.00 a can on Fleabay
  25. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Says its a Florida truck as well. Rob?
