  1. If you're coming to the LA area, my buddy has a black 89 Eliminator for sale. 4.0/5-sp
  2. Cool. I was going to take a friend's F-250, but figured it would be more fun in the MJ. The only thing that could've been responsible for the mileage gain was that I went from 33s and 4.56 gears to 31s and 3.55 gears. And I know my speedo is a bit off, so I recorded the miles with my GPS. It was a nice drive up the California coast, once I got out of the LA metro area.
  3. Yeah he did. I was just happy to get out of the house. I've been on short-term disability for five weeks after breaking a bone in my foot. I've been going crazy just sitting around. Would've been a good time to get work done on the truck, but it's been so darned hot out. I go back to work on Monday. :-)
  4. Drove 500+ miles yesterday delivering six tires for a friend. From Orange County to the Falken warehouse in Fontana to San Luis Obispo was 266 miles and 14.2 gallons of gas, which is 19 mpg. And I went through some bad LA morning rush hour traffic and through a mountain pass. On the return trip, I hit even worse LA afternoon rush hour traffic and the entire trip was 526 miles and 29.1 gallons, for 18 mpg. I was pleasantly surprised. I had always gotten around 13-14 mpg on the three Jeeps that I've had.
  5. It actually has two switch openings. The left one has a blank plug and does not have the fog light symbol.
  6. The newer doors will like up with the older fenders perfectly. But mismatched header panels and fenders will not line up. I had done the 97+ header panel and fender conversion, but I sustained some damage in Moab. The newer header panels are at a real premium around here. They are next to impossible to find in a self service junkyard. One full service junkyard wanted $450 for a used factory fiberglass header panel. So now I have the parts needed to switch back to the older front end. It'll have all the chrome trim, which I think will look good when I get the truck painted Spinnaker Blue. However, I am keeping the 97+ doors.
  7. That's funny, I hadn't seen this thread until you PM'd me. Yes, the guy does have the plate, but it is only a single.I will get it for you ttomorrow. PM me your address.
  8. Okay, the Dana 44 is spoken for. I'm picking it up tomorrow for a friend.
  9. Went back over there to pick up a 94 XJ engine for a friend. Also got some chrome trim pieces and a chrome tailgate handle. He still has the rebuilt 88 motor. He pulled the engine, AW4, and 231 as one unit and is on the ground. He went back to Auto zone to get a duplicate receipt for the rebuilt engine, but they would not give it to him. He did purchase it in 2012. He's asking $1500 for the entire drive train, but could possibly be talked into separating. The MJ Dana 44 is also still available for $150. He also has a LWB gas tank (with sender) and the metal gas tank skid. A HP Dana 30, doors, seats, taillights, rear slider, and MT leaf springs are also available. He's a motivated seller. He wants this stuff gone ASAP.
  10. Looks great Scott. I like your truck red. Let me know if you find a good Line-X deal.
  11. It's an automatic, but don't know which transfer case is in it. He said he got the engine rebuilt, but never completed the rest of the truck. He is looking for the paperwork from the rebuilder. He's moving to Oregon very soon and can't take the truck with him. So it's just easier for him to part it out. If you need anything John, I can go get it for you.
  12. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/pts/4560327562.html Metric Tonne model, so the guy has a D44 and HD leaf springs. The bed is in pretty good condition, its always had a plastic bedliner. Tail lights are in good shape too. And the motor is a new rebuild.
  13. Not stock control arms and not stock shackles.
  14. Junkyard has tons of stock air boxes.
  15. The ring gear has 46 teeth and the pinion gear has 13 teeth. 46/13 = 3.538 You could regear to 4.10 or 4.56. You'll need a new ring and pinion set and a master install kit, which will include all the necessary bearings and seals. The regear job is best left to an experienced installer. Some specialty tools are required.
  16. When I put disc brakes on my old XJ's 8.25, I got new longer wheel studs from an auto parts store.
  17. I agree with Eagle. I found this out the hard way many years ago.
  18. That looks like a REAR axle to me. :) If its a D44, then its super easy. I just did mine.
  19. Beautiful truck! I have a rear bumper just like that one. :)
  20. 1992 was a very good year for Michael Jordan. He won the NBA Championship and a gold medal in the Olympics. ;)
  21. What sway end links? :) Haven't had a sway bar for over a year. But I'll be putting it back on soon. Well, it wasn't the axle u-joints. So the search for the culprit continues. I'm in the process of building a new Dana 30. So hopefully somewhere along the line, the problem will be solved.
  22. My ball joints are also relatively new, Don. I tried what you said and there was no play. I've been thinking about this all day and realized that I can't remember the last time I changed the axle u-joints. So Jeep Driver is probably right. Can't wait to get home in an hour and check them out.
  23. Hey Bo, all of the steering components are relatively new. Didn't see any play in any of them.
  24. Thanks. I'll check that tomorrow after work and will report back.
