The truly "custom" '86 MJ Custom.
onlyinajeep726 replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Thank you sir! I'll be glad when I can find some bucket seats... then the interior will be pretty much done. Only other thing I plan to do to the interior is a modified XJ overhead console...- 80 replies

Renix Tps Instructions
onlyinajeep726 replied to cruiser54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Although I had no trouble following your previous version of the TPS adjustment tip, I do see how this is a little easier to follow. Thank you cruiser for once again being flipping awesome and sharing your wealth of Jeep knowledge. Also, I'm glad to see that you're not completely gone from CC. You are a great asset to myself and other members. -
Just based on a quick glance, I think the front half of the carpet from an XJ will work in my MJ, but does anyone here know for sure? I figure there will be some cutting involved, but other that than, is it a straight forward swap?

The truly "custom" '86 MJ Custom.

Been working at getting my interior finished here recently. Black Friday, my buddy and I went to LKQ on a 50% day in an attempt to find a 2-door XJ with gray or black bucket seats... Unfortunately, we did not find any. However, tonight, I spent a few hours removing the last bit of trim from the inside and got the front seat belts from my donor XJ removed. Thought the belts would be interchangeable, which they are mostly, but not without some modification of course. Had to do some drilling, but now I have the correct color and type of belts for the snaps that I used. I've also been busy with paint. Got 90% of the trim painted black. Once I get some bucket seats, a center console will go in and the door panels will be swapped to gray from my donor. Along with that, the head liner is no longer tan. It has been sprayed with dark gray fabric paint. Other than working in the cab, I have an issue with my power steering pump reservoir leaking fluid... Not sure why is started leaking now. Was on my XJ before its stroker swap and it never leaked. Oh well... Haven't met a Jeep yet that didn't leak something all over itself. On to pictures... Original MJ belt - top, XJ - bottom Drilled a new hole and it's ready to go Had to drill some holes into the B-pillar for the bracket "fingers" Done Painted panel... Notice the factory tan color Gray head liner- 80 replies

I don't really post, but I expect to get my '88 back from paint by the end of the year. I'm in Fuquay Varina and the shop I'm using is in Clayton. I'd be up for a meet to talk MJ. Nice, what color are you painting it and at what shop here in Clayton?

Note to self: Add Washington to list of states I'll never live in...

You destroy all evidence not in your favor. Make copies of everything that proves their at fault. I think a dash cam would be a great idea, so much so that I've contemplated it also...

Matt's 1981 Jeep J10 I have had this 1981 Jeep J10 for a number of years now. It is my second, replacing a J10 that would leave outlines of itself in rust flakes wherever I parked it! I saw this one for sale in Iowa and had to go see it. I paid way too much for a truck with a bad camshaft lobe (I convinced myself it was poor emissions control hook-ups and drove it back home that way!), but as the years have passed, that sting has faded while the truck still makes me smile whenever I drive it. It has its share of blemishes, but it fires right up in any weather and still gets me the occasional thumbs-up or gas pump conversation when it is out and about. It also pulls its own weight going to the woods for firewood, hauling manure for the garden and carrying materials for various other projects. It is built of parts from a wide range of years, including the drivetrain from a 1989 Jeep and a mix-n-match modern Ford ignition, but regardless of the model year of the systems I am working on, RockAuto comes through with the parts. Brakes, exhaust, emissions control, engine, transfer case, all of them have at least something provided by RockAuto. I appreciate the prices AND the availability of parts for older cars that you guys provide. And all the helpful information in the catalog is a big bonus for selecting parts and verifying that you are getting what you expect. Keep up the good work! Possible Axle Upgrade Ft And Rr
onlyinajeep726 replied to Me&my86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only thing concluding me to think that it's not a passenger side drop is the placement of those shocks. Looks like they're mounted just above the axle tube from the angle of the picture. Either way, they're still hella wide for an MJ and fabbing these under our trucks will take a lot of work. -
Possible Axle Upgrade Ft And Rr
onlyinajeep726 replied to Me&my86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What do you plan to do with your MJ? Hard wheeling on 37's or bigger? I'm assuming that these are from a full-width truck and therefore will be quite wide on our little trucks. With the right lift and tire combo, it wouldn't look bad. However, just because you can doesn't mean you should. If you're planning a V8 swap and with heavy wheeling, then this wouldn't be a bad place to start IMO. -
Man... I was beginning to wonder where you were... Figured you've been tinkering with one of your latest MJs. Glad you're back haha.

What Year Is This Truck?
onlyinajeep726 replied to MrSimon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know! You have sweet build too. The damn thing gone wild! -
I, too, would advise grabbing the whole axle, but the cards are in your hands so it's your choice. A C8.25 is a good choice and is readily available behind XJs. There is no carrier break for the 8.25 and 4.10's can be readily had if your XJ donor doesn't have a 8.25. I lucked out and got both front and rear axles with 4.10's for my XJ for about $250 at LKQ on a 50% day. Would have been cheaper if I had taken the brake assemblies of the rear since it got a ZJ disc brake conversion right after that. Mine came from a '94 with 2.5L/AX5 and thus the rear is 27 spline but still a huge improvement over the turdy-five.

Front 3" Spacer Lift & Rear Shackels
onlyinajeep726 replied to Hotrocks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'd recommend 2" also, through use of spacers and shackles. You can get by with stock trac-bar and shocks. Also, as with any suspension modification on our Jeeps, I'd recommend a professional alignment because you will change the geometry of the steering, even if just a little. -
Clutch Noise After Replacement
onlyinajeep726 replied to diablo8511's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Grinding noise like how? Does it sound like a belt sander going or like a metal on metal? Reason I ask is because when I did my clutch kit, it made a noise for the first so many miles until I broke it in. Now it's whisper quiet. -
Still no time in almost 2 months? lol
