Well, here in Ohio, Wahoo refers to Chief Wahoo, as in the Cleveland Indians. But you're from Virginia.

I'm pretty sure it can just be glued back on, but I don't know off hand what to use. It happened to a friend of mine recently and her neighbor fixed it for her. If I remember I'll ask him what he used.

New Radiator Differences

Or you could do what I did on my Ford and run the power steering fluid through the trans cooler. Especially if you have or will have larger tires. -

Ouch! Sorry about your loss. Glad everyone is fine, though.

Well, I'm off to bed. I just sat through Nim's Island with my 11 year old daughter and 2 of her friends at the local drive-in. 2 of the 3 kids were bouncing off energy drinks (Red Bull and Monster). They're spending the night at her one friend's house. :teehee: But we used the Comanche instead of the Suburban.

Well, Illinois is close to Wisconsin, isn't it?

I didn't mean using an XJ tank. I meant using an XJ pump/sending unit in an after market MJ tank without the tray. But since I'm getting a used tank off you, it doesn't affect me :D

Looking up new gas tanks, I did find a number that specified NOT having a pan inside of them. With these tanks an XJ unit *might* fit.

Only if the vehicle is disabled and is to be towed with either front or rear wheels off the ground by a tow truck. Basically maximum speed is 30 mph, max distance is 15 miles. Do not disconnect rear prop shaft as fluid will leak out and damage internal parts. Ignition key off, automatic transmission in Park, transfer case in Neutral. The manual says if the vehicle is locked or the transfer case can not be shifter to Neutral for any reason to put the rear wheel on a dolly, and raise the front wheels. However, it says to hook up a chain to the front axle on the right side, and the frame on the left side, so the front wheels are free to spin. Towing the vehicle on a dolly should technically be possible if you make sure the front axle is disengaged, but the manual has no information about it.

From my 87 manual, pages 118 and 119: Recreational Towing (Behind Motorhome, etc.) (shows a picture of a Comanche with a tow bar) CAUTION: It is necessary to follow these steps to be certain that the transfer case is fully in N (Neutral) and that the axle is completely disengaged before recreational towing to prevent damage to internal parts. 1. Shift transfer case to 2H 2. Drive vehicle 10ft forward and 10ft rearward 3. Shift transmission to neutral 4. Turn off the engine with the ignition key in the unlocked off position 5. Shift transfer case lever from 2H to N position 6. Shift automatic transmission into Park 7. Attach vehicle to the tow vehicle with tow bar It then goes on to Towing A Disabled Vehicle (behind tow truck). No mention of distance or speed limitations.

It lists the exact same part number as the 88 Cherokee, so probably not. It will fit the Cherokee, and for some reason, parts manufacturers seem to think the Cherokee and Comanche parts interchange. The sending unit I believe is turned 180 degrees from how it needs to be.
-
If the transfer case was not in neutral I would not have been able to spin the drive shaft, as the transmission was in park. And for some reason I can't view your videos. The web site gives me an error instead: Flex Error #1001: Digest mismatch with RSL framework_3.0.189825.swf. Redeploy the matching RSL or relink your application with the matching library.

If you need all the guts, that will be shoes, wheel cylinder, hardware kit and adjuster kit. All readily available from any auto parts store. You don't want to mess around with using used parts to do brakes. Always use new.

Yuk! Now if they put that diesel/lithium ion hybrid system in a TJ or MJ, I'd be all over it. Would be nice if they'd bring back the Comanche, modernized just a bit. But we all know if the Jeep Comanche would ever come back they'd mess up the styling to the point it won't be a Comanche anymore. Just like Chevy got rid of the perfectly good S-10 to replace it with a front wheel drive piece of $#!* butt ugly Colorado. Actually, the S-10 got a bit messed up already in 99 or so when they went from the square body to the rounded look, but I'm drifting off topic again.

It's not because of your TC. It will still spin if a) you have a non-CAD axle or B) if your CAD is not functioning properly and it's locked the stub shaft to the main shaft. This will only cause your driveshaft to spin simply because your tires are moving as well. I did the test with the engine off, transmission in park, transfer case in neutral, rear wheels off the ground (on jack stands). When I spin the rear drive shaft by hand, the front drive shaft also spun. When my daughter tried to held the front drive shaft to keep it from turning, I could not spin the rear drive shaft. Transfer case in neutral on my MJ with Command-Trac definitely has rear drive shaft connected to the front drive shaft. It does disconnect the transfer case input shaft, effectively uncoupling it from the transmission. Are you telling my my transfer case is broken? It works as it should in 2H, 4H and 4L. But if you do not start the vehicle after the transfer case is taken out of 2H, the front axle will stay disconnected, as there is no vacuum to engage the disco. So I agree you can tow it with the rear wheels on the ground.

Okay, new plan (plan e?). Get the tow bar and magnetic trailer lights . Put the brackets on and do a tow test make sure everything works. Put everything in the back of the Suburban. Drive the MJ to Attica. IF I break down on the way there/back/while playing I call my 17 year old to get her behind in the Suburban and come get me. My main concerns are the fuel pump, since it's getting loud and breaking drive line parts from playing too hard. Plan F is like plan E, but take tow bar and stuff with me in the Comanche. That way, if needed, I could tow Chico if he breaks down on the way. We'd just have to put my bumper (with the brackets) on his truck.

Not quite. I just did a test, and yes, transfer case in neutral does make the front driveshaft spin when the rear is spinning, but: If you put the transfer case in neutral WITHOUT running the engine, there is no vacuum to engage the front axle, so it should be fine. In any case, I found an inexpensive universal tow bar on Ebay I'm going to try to get. Flat tow it without a dolly or trailer.Still screwed on gas, just not as bad as it would be with the added 2000 pounds of a trailer. And according to my manual. it is an acceptable way to tow my Comanche like this. So you're going to be there? Awesome! When we get closer to July we need to discuss a time and place to meet up in Cambridge. I think someone from south of Columbus or so might also be going, maybe we can meet up with him in Columbus or some place as well. I guess this should have been in the other thread.

Sorry, can't really help you that much here. I'm from the main land in Europe. We have Amstel, Heineken and Grolsch there. Although, according to Google, Amstel does have a brewery in Willemstad, Curaçao. Supposedly it is the only brewery in the world that uses distilled seawater for 100% of it's water source. Somewhere on the island seems to also be a more local brewery called Den Ambachtelijk Brouwerij. All I can find for St. Maarten is St Maarten Breweries NV.

Wow! That bed look like it had lots of fun. Too much fun, maybe.

When trailering an 87 4x4 MJ using a tow dolly, with the rear wheels on the ground. It is sufficient to put the transfer case in neutral, or does the rear drive shaft have to be removed? Can the drive shaft even be removed without losing fluid out of the transfer case? I'm talking long distance here, like close to 400 miles, twice in a long weekend. I could use a full trailer if I have to, but that sucker will add more than 2000 pounds of weight... Don't really want to unless I have no choice.

Yes, I'm going for sure, barring unforeseen circumstances. Boss doesn't really like it when I come in Friday and say "I'm going to Florida for a week." Boss: "When are you leaving?" Me: "in 8 hours" Boss: "Anything I can do to stop you?" Me; "Probably not." Boss: "Well, have fun then." I have done that before, and have enough seniority (and irreplaceable skills) to pull it off. But doing it too often will probably cost me raises. So instead I ask him 5 months ahead of time, and get the reply "and I'm supposed to remember that?". So I put it on the calendar when he's watching so if he forgets I can show it to him. I think I put August 6 and 7 on the calendar more than 12 months in advance... But: I have noticed my fuel pump, which is barely audible when I first start the truck, gets really loud after 15 minutes or so of driving. May have something to do with the fact that I never have more than 3 gallons of gas in the tank due to it leaking out if I do. (Do have a replacement tank coming, though). This makes me think it might be about to go, so unless it goes out and I replace it before the trip, I might be trailering just in case. And yes, everybody has already been telling me to trailer it, before the fuel pump was brought up.

How much paint to paint an MJ?
mvusse replied to moparmatt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used a gallon of automotive paint to paint my Geo Prizm (like a Toyota Corolla), and had enough left over for my F100 (not including bed, it was wood). I'm guessing 3 qt. for an entire MJ, including inside bed, but not inside cab or engine compartment. Gallon if you strip it down and do it all. Can you use a hardener with that paint? -
Now that's a company that cares about it's customers. Most companies nowadays act like "we have your money, if you need to wait 3 months before you get our product, too bad!" They take the chance of their customers taking their business elsewhere in the hopes of keeping (or creating) a good name for customer service. That alone is enough for me to go to them instead of a competitor if I need something they carry.

Hmmm, since I'm Dutch (as in from the Netherlands) I have to ask: Since you are going to Aruba (part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles), Curaçao, i (Netherlands Antilles) and St. Maarten , or at least half of it (Netherlands Antilles), are you sure about Barbados? The other half of St. Maarten (St. Martin) is French. Or did you mean Bonaire (Netherlands Antilles)? Just curious.
