First post of the build thread in my sig.

AFAIK Aussie now makes their own lockers in NY, Lokka is the company that used to make the Aussie lockers before. I have not seen one in person before, but imagine it to be the same as the older Aussie lockers.

Stingers were not designed to save you truck from going into a crevasse. The point of a stinger is to keep you from doing an endo. Once all four tires are off the ground you will be sitting on a point causing you to be deflected to the side instead of going straight over onto your roof.

First off, this needs to be moved to the "wanted" section, not "for sale" Second off, this for sale ad by the site administrator might interest you: http://comancheclub.com/topic/40244-4x4-90-comanche-pioneer-in-se-michigan-100/

For anyone wanting to head out there, note that the Hatfield & McCoy trail system of which Ivy is part requires helmets by all riders, even in Jeeps. Never been there myself, but have been told this by a frequent visitor.
-
Then I know more Jeeps with the "shadetree" modification than I do with it hooked where you say it belongs. As in more than 5 of them I have seen just over the last month, out of only 8 I looked under the hood. Pretty sure that is factory. Come to think of it, I have never noticed vacuum ports on the throttle body. Will have to check for that this weekend.

The carrier break for a D30 is 3.55 and down, 3.73 and up. For a D44 it is 3.73 and down, 3.92 and up. So if you currently have 3.55 gears, you will need a different carrier for your Dana 30. For the Dana 44 it all depends on what gears the axle has when you get it.
-
Spicer only made gears down to 4.56 for the Dana 30. There are aftermarket 4.88 gears available, but the pinion gear is so freakishly small there isn't w whole lot of engagement between the gears making it very weak. I suggest going no lower than 4.56 on a Dana 30. Ford 8.8 (all variants) can go down to 5.71 Dana 44 can go down to 5.89 (standard cut/low pinion) or 5.38 (reverse cut/high pinion, front axle only) Chrysler 8.25 can go down to 4.56 There is no reason the 8.25 shouldn't be able to go lower other than nobody makes lower gear sets for it.

Most Likely A Dumb Question
mvusse replied to jpdriver1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm with Gogmorgo and Dasbulliwagen. R142 (HCFC-142) does exist, but it's an even much more potent ozone affecting molecule than R12, and it's manufacture was prohibited 3 years earlier than R12. It was never commonly used as a refrigerant. It was common for a few other uses including a propellant in aerosol cans. Read that sticker under the hood again to see if maybe it says 134a instead of 142. All newer AC systems use R134a, and the only conversion kits I have seen for older units using R12 use R134a as well. -
New Venture and New Process are the same company anyway. They just changed the name.

Most Likely A Dumb Question
mvusse replied to jpdriver1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've also heard the alternate theory that it is to make sure the compressor gets used during the winter to keep the oil circulating. As far as a dumb question goes, I've been taught the only stupid question is the one you never asked. -
Transfer Case To Transmission Studs
mvusse replied to Megadan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't know about your area, but my local ACE Hardware keeps them in stock under the heading "automotive studs". -
I have never seen a larger than 5% discount from Rock Auto. Doesn't mean they never do it, though.
-
Actually, pinion should be a couple degrees lower so they run parallel under load.

Project "Eliminator"
mvusse replied to 89eliminator's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I'm still trying to figure out my tires. On mine 10 seems to work best (as in out of this freaking world) on the front, but for the rear 10 was still too much. Loving my double beadlocks. Not running beadlocks with 35x12.50 on an 8" rim I never went below 12 for fear of popping a bead. -
If he's talking the bolt that holds the yoke to the output shaft I have no clue. If he's talking the 4 bolts holding the drive shaft to the yoke, they are the same as the stock front ones, 1/4" fine thread.

One thing top note about the Liberties, the things weight about 1000 pounds more than Cherokees.

It's a Jeep. With the higher ground clearance to go off road comes a higher center of gravity. I would as soon buy a Grand Cherokee to do a slalom in a parking lot as I would a C30 to go to a hunting shack 5 miles off road. We can test the C30 off road against a Grand Cherokee, Trailblazer, Mercedes G class, Range Rover and others and claim the C30 is utterly useless, and warn people not to buy one if they want to be able to go where they want.

Did Jeep ever offer any 17" rim with the 5 x 4.5" bolt circle? They started with the 17" rims when they brought in the WJ version of the Grand Cherokee in 1999, and those were NOT 5 x 4.5". The first generation (KJ) Jeep Liberty also had 16" and larger wheels (and an 8.25" rear with disc brakes), but retained the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern. Not until the next generation (KK, 2008 - ) did they move to 5 on 5. My Cherokee is running KJ wheels. The 16x7 ones are 5.25 backspacing. Don't knoe sbout the 17 and 18" ones as I have never had a set in my posession.
-
Sorry, I do not know the answer to any of those questions.

I ran 31x10.50s on a stock Cherokee with factory 15x7 wheels for about a year. The rubbed the rear flares when going over bumps in the road. Cherokee rear wheel wells are much smaller than Comanche ones. As noted above, 10.50" wide tires run close to the inside wall of the wheel well in an MJ. This can possibly be solved by spacers while still staying inside the fenders. The aforementioned now runs 265/75R16 tires (32x10.50) on stock steel 16x7 KJ Liberty wheels, WJ lower control arms and about 3" lift. Tires fit inside fenders, but I have had to cut some off the inside edges of both front and rear flares. Outside (visible part) of flares are still intact. And yes, the backspacing on those Liberty wheels is 5.25". A 245/75R16 should be about the same height as a 31 tall but about an inch narrower. Would probably be a good fit on a stock MJ.

The ad said the windshield met a baseball bat. What gets me is they broke the factory 3 piece rear slider as well, and you can't get those anymore.
