If you want a diesel, you can always swap a Cummins 4BT into a Manche.

They unscrew. The rubber "stop" is glued (?) to the lower metal piece, but the lower metal piece unscrews from the top metal piece. Pipe wrench has always worked for me.

Chevy 5 speed for a 2.5?
mvusse replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
How is an AX4 a truck tranny, and an AX5 a car tranny? An AX5 is an AX4 with overdrive added. Geonovast and JeepcoMJ each have converted an AX4 to an AX5 by adding the overdrive gear at least once. 1st through 4th on an AX5 are the same as an AX4. The difference might be that the AX4 usually came with 3.55 axles, and the AX5 with 4.10 axles. -
My 87 MJ with D35 has 1 3/4x10 brakes. My 94 XJ with 8.25" has 1 3/4x10 brakes My buddy's 91 XJ with D35 has 2 1/2x9 brakes.

Went wheeling Saturday and today.

Put my exhaust back on after it fell off. Everything front the front pipe back fell off in one piece. Came off off road last month and my daughter's boyfriend put it back on. Must not have tightened the clamps enough...

track bar bushing worn out can i still drive?
mvusse replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Usually it's the hole in the bracket on the frame end that gets elongated. A new track bar will not solve this. Tightening the castle nut will work for a while, but is not a permanent fix. The problem will come back. If this is your problem, get a "new" one off a Cherokee in a junk yard. While you're under your truck, have somebody else move the steering wheel. -
Tell me about it. I have a 29 spline 8.25 sitting in my driveway, but no money to buy perches or shock mounts for it. have a new (stronger) shaft in the driver side front axle to replace the broken one, but don't have the money to buy a u-joint for the passenger side. So both halves are still sitting on my work table in the basement waiting on a u-joint. Meanwhile I'm driving around and wheeling with 33s and front locker, weak 260 passenger side joint, stupid vacuum disco, and a (c clip, thankfully) D35 out back. Any bets on what's the next thing to break? This weekend?

what is better this 8.25 or an 8.8
mvusse replied to comanche13's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'd go with the 8.8. I would have said 8.25 if it were 29 spline, but it's a 27. -
Out of 11 people I watched take the same track through the rock garden at JeepSkool I did, 2 were Cherokees with drop brackets. They both hit one of the drop brackets, and one got pretty badly mangled by a rock. Mind you, I messed up the back edge of my front fender on the same rock. Misconception my butt.

SOA in the rear should work with 35s, but you may want to lower the bump stops so you can't stuff the tire into the top of the fender flares and/or break a leaf. The front will be the problem. I currently run 6.25" of lift up front with 33x12.50 tires. At ride height the tire clears the back of the wheel well by 3/8". When I flex the suspension the tire moving up also moves forward, and hits the front of the wheel well. I will solve that (hopefully) by cutting off the front of the fenders flush with the bottom of the parking light/top of bumper. With 35" tires you may have to do some more drastic surgery. 33x10.50s can fit inside the wheel well, so none of this is needed, but I don't think they make 35x10.50.

You related to Mick Jagger or Keith Richards?

This is what a 350 looks like in a comanche.

Pre 96 you can still have emissions legalities concerning engine and/or exhaust, depending on what state you're in. 76 and older is fair game everywhere because of lack of emission standards of any sort. But a 5.9 Hemi in a CJ, YJ, TJ or XJ, if done properly, can be 50 state legal, as Jeep offered it in the WJ or ZJ, can't remember which, and they are all considered SUVs. Don't know if brands can cross through the parent company. If so, any Dakota or RAM engine is fair game in a Comanche. Again, the 5.9 Hemi becomes viable. Or a diesel. But for a 50 state legal swap, all emissions stuff needs to be there, stock and working. -
Supposedly there were talks between GM and Cerberus about trading GMAC for the Jeep brand, but Cerberus did not want to split Jeep off from Chrysler. That would mean that GM does still own GMAC, though. Or did a year ago anyway.

Disclaimer: This post contains personal opinions and unverified, possibly false information. Don't take this post as point of fact. The problem with smoking weed is not the THC, it is the incredibly high tar content. But there's no reason you can't use filter blanks. Of course that kind of kills the point since it filters out THC as well. It was legal where I lived the first 16 years of my life, and very lax laws where I spent the next 6. Then I move to the states and am astonished how many resources are wasted trying to control a non-problem instead of using those resources to go after the hard stuff. Don't tell your kids "Drugs are bad, don't do drugs," if you want them to stay clean. They will experiment just because they are "supposed to be bad". Instead teach them about specific drug's specific effects, risk of addiction and health risks; as to allow them to make their own educated decisions. And that includes tobacco and alcohol. My father never cared much, but I figured out why when I came across his water bong. My mother was (still is at 62 years old) extremely naive and has led a very sheltered life. As a result I experimented probably more than I should have. Don't personally see a problem with alcohol, tobacco or THC, learned to stay away from amphetamines, cocaine in any form, morphine and relatives, and E. Also think everyone should experience psilocin, psilocybin or LSD once for the experience. Mine was mind opening. But there's no need to ever kill that many brain cells in a single shot again. So legalize weed, tax the bejeesus out of it and use that money to wage war against hard drugs instead.

I think using it only as a spare is a wise decision. No experience with the mud rovers.

Greased all fittings; torqued all drive line, suspension and steering bolts and nuts; checked all fluids, adjusted tire pressure. Good to go wheeling and camping at JeepSkool this weekend.

Those have got to be the sexiest hood vents I've seen on a Comanche. What are they off?

Bumper is hunter green off a Cherokee Limited. So paint the flares hunter green? :D

lift kit for my 89 comanche sport

6.5" with 33s here with short arms. At normal ride height the tires barely clear the back of the front fender well, when I try to stuff them they hit the front. 35 would be worse. Long arms may work as the larger arc don't make the tires move forward as much. Otherwise you'd have to do serious cutting or bump stopping. The rear should be okay at 6.5", but you should still extend the bump stops so you don't crack leafs and/or put the tire into the top of the fender under full flex. -
Yup, we had road kill cuisine at work last week when one of the guys killed a deer with the delivery truck. Straight head shot, no bruised meat. It did crack a front marker light lens, though.

Problem is a bumper is not in my budget. I am completely tapped out for at least 2 months, and that's assuming work stays steady, which is not a safe assumption nowadays.
