This past weekend: We decided a "Skool" needs to have a "Prom", so we organized one Saturday night with a DJ at the pavilion. Instructions were the worst dress you could find at Goodwill. That's what the last few pictures are.

I like Summit Racing, but that's because their original (first) store is only an hour from me.

Sounds like an alignment issue.

Tapped stripped steering box hole for 1/2" bolt. Installed 1/2x4.5" bolt. Drill 1/2" hole in center of roof. Installed CB antenna. Tuned antenna. SWR is now 1.9; best mounted on fender was 2.3. 5/8 wave antenna gives 1.2, but at 10 feet it's a little long... My 3' antenna looks too long on the roof. Need to get a 2'. Hooked up radio antenna.

A few questions about rear SOA, Front options etc.
mvusse replied to JeffK's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got my SOA perches from Ruffstuff Specialties. 8.5" long. IIRC, with those perches, D35 and stock leafs it will lift 5.5" above current height. Thickness of spring pack, height of perch and diamer of axle tube all affect this. With a D44 you still get about 5.5", as the tube diameter is pretty close to a 35. With a 8.25 or 8.8 you'd get about 6" as they use 3" tubes. If you'd match this with 4.5" up front, you'd have a pretty good rake, assuming you were level before. 265/75R16 is about a 32x10.50 tire, which should fit up front with 4.5" lift and some playing with adjustable control arms. -
The stock bolts are too short now, so I went to the hardware store to get longer ones. To be sure I took one of the old ones with me. a 7/16"-14 nut fits on them perfectly, so they are 7/16"(x4). 4.5" long bolts would be perfect, but they didn't have any, so I had to get 7/16x5". The threaded part of the bolts is just barely long enough. This afternoon I'm going to try to make it to Ziegler's bolt and nut house to get a 1/2" bolt and a 1/2" tap. Better selection than Fastenall. If they don't have 1/2x4.5", it's doesn't exist, meaning I have to again go with 5".

At least for the Renix years, 87 through 90, all the assemblies I've had go through my hands (3 of them so far), fit both a 2.5 pump and a 4.0 pump. But a 4.0 will not work with a 2.5 pump, and a 4.0 pump may overpower the pressure regulator on a 2.5. The 2.5l TBI runs a lot lower pressure than the 4.0 MPI.

Fixed! Well, kinda. No pictures as I'm a little embarrassed by the look of the welds. And I stripped the threads in one of the bolt holes in the steering box! :fs1: Now I have to drill it out, tap it, and put a 1/2" bolt in. The stock bolts are 7/16". Found out tomorrow I'm working a normal day, no 40 hour limit yet this week. Then I just have enough time for supper before my evening job at the drive-in. Can probably get out of there around 10:00 pm or so, at which time I still have to pack up the truck, and be up at 6 in the morning to have breakfast, shower and be on my way to JeepSkool for a weekend of camping and wheeling.

I was originally going to, but instead we are having a tailgate party followed by watching the Cleveland Indians beat the St. Louis Cardinals on the 13th. Want to make it out to Badlands some time this year, but do not see it happening until at least September/October.

Nothing today. It rained all evening. Weather's supposed to be dry tomorrow, though!

If you heard a clunk, I would definitely check the ball joints and hub.

It will be welded. The mock up picture is just that. A mock up. I want to bolt everything together to make sure it fits right. Then with the bolts tight, spot weld it to make sure it doesn't move. Then unbolt everything, finish welding it, paint it, and bolt everything back on. Weather permitting I might be done tomorrow.

Finished the braces for the frame around the steering box, and got the crack in the frame welded. One pass looked good, so we did a second pass just in case. Crack: All welded up: Inside brace: Outside brace: Mocked up in place: Now the steering box bolts are too short. Stock bolts are 7/16-14x4, I need 4.5". Don't know if they exist. I bought 3 5" bolts at the local hardware, but the threads may not go far enough down the bolt. That's where I ran out of daylight.

Taped a piece of paper to the inside of my outside frame brace, took a pencil, stuck it through the steering box bolt sleeves and marked the last three holes to drill.

Z28 or Saab. It's a toss-up.

Got a new cable for my camera. This is what I was up to before I found the tear in the frame: I did the grille in flat black as an experiment, but the flat black is more like grey. Will redo it the same as the rest after the frame has been fixed. The bumper and hood are next.

The only loan I currently have is my mortgage. I do have a credit card with just over $1k. I haven't used it for a number of months now, and am paying it down. I hope to be able to keep doing that, but I just got my hours cut in the same week medical insurance is going up

Looks like 3" - 3.5" lift to me.

Instead of putting the stock idler pulley there, move the alternator to that spot and run a 77" belt. The stock location for the alternator is one of the worst designs I have ever seen. I'm still kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

I have looked at them, but they don't have a tread I like in a 33" tire for a 15" rim. They do have them in 285/75R16, but I don't feel like buying yet another set of rims, and those are narrower than I like. A buddy of mine is running their 31x10.50 MT/R on his Dakota and is very happy with them for street use, mainly for winter/snow, but he hasn't yet put the ATs back on for sumer. Someone at JeepSkool has the same ones of his Cherokee and they do very well off road. Once my 235/75R15s are used up I'll probably get a set in that size for the XJ.

Tall and fat. Would that just be considered "big"?

You expect us to believe that? Not even a single one? Sorry, just razzing you. Bad habit of mine. ;) I keep a savings account. In it I (try to) keep one normal pay check. So if a pay check end up being late for whatever reason (more and more often as of late), I still have the money to pay my bills. Currently it's a little low again because of unforeseen circumstances, but still enough to pay the mortgage, which is my single largest monthly payment. Took me a while to get it built up, but I've been glad I did on more than one occasion.

That picture was taken on the trail. The closest thing to a car wash there is driving through a river, but it goes only halfway up the grill. Good thing, though, cause any higher and the engine would be sucking water.

A buddy of mine has a 60csx. He uses it for directions and out in the woods. In the vehicle it sits in a holster attached to the wind shield and plugged into the cigarette lighter.
