Eliminator Sticker Measurement?
GirsMJ86 replied to over2land's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
He has two sets, plus you could custom order your own. The ones he offers are Black/Silver and Metallic Charcoal/Silver. Which would you like to see on your truck Don? Maybe I can work some photoshop magic for ya. -
Eliminator Sticker Measurement?
GirsMJ86 replied to over2land's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If only I had known about this before I sold my truck... oh well, stickers wouldn't have fixed the missing floors I guess. But I now need to order a set or two for when I get a new Eliminator down the road. Those things look awesome, great job Spence. -

Not sure how far you are willing to travel, but I have a Comanche specific SWB one in North-central Ohio. If you want pics I could get you some after this windy front moves through the area. EDIT: There is a picture in the link in my sig from when I was buying the truck. Can get betters ones in wanted. ~Alex

Hey! This all stems from my thread, I feel special... lol Anyways, I was talking with him (Spencer) not too long ago about this as well. I was trying to get the older style Eliminator ones made because I did not know they were changed in 91, so now I am trying to get the newer ones made. If someone who has them could just get him some tracings we would be in business. The only issue I see with the Eliminator ones is that they were made to look faded, on the older styles at least. Maybe the newer ones would be easier to reproduce since it was just a light stripe over a dark stripe. Two solid colored decals. As you'll see though, a member here tried to get a rubbing and couldn't because of lack of texture. I'd love to get some 91 style ones on my truck, going to be getting it restored here soon and this is all that will be holding me up. ~Alex

Figured I would see what is out there and for how much while I have a bit of spending change. Looking for these things fairly cheap shipped, but don't want to make anyone feel ripped off. Let me know what you've got, pictures would be great, and I'll get back with you. Thanks, ~Alex

Hood Vent Install
GirsMJ86 replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
They'll pop up on here from time to time, this is where I got my pair. I paid $60 for em, which seems to be the normal running for em (at least when I got em) because of the popularity of em with the 4.0L crowd. I'd check out Ebay or your local junk yard, as well as maybe toss up a wanted thread here on the club. ~Alex -
I've got a '91 up for sale around here (link is in signature if ya want to look), but I'm pretty sure OH would be a bit too far for ya. Good luck on your search. ~Alex

Hood Vent Install
GirsMJ86 replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Well since this thread is alive once again, and it seems I never posted mine up, here are a few shots of mine. I followed LEAD's method but improved upon it so that you don't need the brackets but just leave some tabs on the hood and bend those. And as far as rain goes, water doesn't effect anything for me. Not sure what it might cause on a pre-'91 though. Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found ~Alex -
CFC's unofficial death toll on Comanches........523
GirsMJ86 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in The Pub
They are either stupid, or this is just more "facts" that contradict normal knowledge and state that there were a few made as '93s. I want to bet on the first. ~Alex -

GirsMJ86 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in The Pub
What I find most irksome about this is that the engines have the be trashed. That is a good number of perfectly good blocks out there, not to mention great 4.0s, that would be more efficient if placed in smaller lighter cars. It was a good idea on paper, but not when executed. ~Alex -

There was a mint smurf truck that got turned in at the chevy dealer just down the road from me. If I had the money I would have tried to save it, but I did get the nice black unpainted flares off it during the middle of the night. :chillin: ~Alex -
vacum disconnect + and - 's
GirsMJ86 replied to 1990 Pioneer 4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
91 Eliminator 4x4 Write-up towards the bottom on how to "fix" your CAD. If you want to see what all it takes. Very simple way to take care of it. ~Alex -
I'd look for a cheap 3.4L since its a direct swap and has nice power compared to the 2.8L, more options out there for it too to up the output. If all else fails though do like I did, find a 4.0L MJ and just sell this one AS IS. The 4.0Ls are easy to find, and you might get lucky and get a really nice one as well to boot. ~Alex
-
Depending on how late in the year your MJ was made it might be able to fit the 4.0L just fine. The bodies got changed ahead of time while the 4.0L was still in R&D getting ready for the next year. If this is the case you're in business, it not then it will take quite a bit of work but I'll let someone who might know more go into detail. I was going to do this with my old '86 till I heard what all it took and just took the easy route and bought a new MJ. :D ~Alex
-
Do this and like I have written in the writeup, make sure you cap off the vacuum stalks that are coming off the CAD cover. Just get it nice and cleaned up and get some vacuum line caps from your auto parts store and you're good-to-go. The reason ya want to do this is so that no water gets in there. ~Alex

A/C out again....best order of troubleshooting?
GirsMJ86 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When someone asks if I'll turn on the A/C in mine, I flip the switch to A/C and see how long till they roll their window down. ~Alex -
It is a central axle disconnect (aka CAD). Basically it was another step in disengaging 4wd with certain models of x-cases, can't remember which off the top of my head atm. If it is not hooked up, or if it fails like most do, my fix will make it so it is "engaged" at all times. Rather then being a three piece axle, it locks it into place so it is the equivalent of a two piece axle. Most the time when a swap like this is done, or even just to get rid of the problem of the CAD axle, these axles are avoided. Hate to be the bearer of bad-ish news. If the fix is done there is no worries, your 4wd is not truly engaged until you pull the lever. Your front wheels will spin freely so long as the x-case is not engaged. ~Alex

Gah ... removing carpet trim
GirsMJ86 replied to bigalpha's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: If you can't get anything to catch with the screwdriver, chances are its stripped and will need to be drilled or gotten out with one of those. ~Alex -
Wouldn't happen to be a CAD axle would it... *click link in my signature, page 3, last post is my DIY fix for that  * ~Alex

Rubicons should be 4.5 till the model change in '06 with the '07 JK. Basically most jeep wheels fit all jeeps till the '07s hit the lots. You should be in the clear. ~Alex

OE Foglight Wire Routing Question
GirsMJ86 replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The wires from the truck come out of a small hole in the front frame under the front clip and behind the bumper, its just a small rectangular one along the top of it near the center. The wires off the fog lights then plug into those and everything can be tucked behind the bumper. ~Alex -
Taken from the listing for the black ones... # These lights are made for show off purposes # The lights are not very reflective because of the black housing, so it is very difficult for drivers to see at night. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS FACT Heh, they even warn you guys they are for show... I've been thinking about the regular ones, how hard is the swap? ~Alex
-
The 454 was not around till '90 in the newer '88 style trucks. The biggest option was the 350 in the '80s C/Ks other then the Detroit Diesels. Unless someone did a swap, don't count on the 454 unless you look in the newer '88+ models... mainly the '90 SS package. ~Alex EDIT: My years were off according to my booklet
