Lift Questions -- Ride Quality and Flex
dscowell replied to JesseFourOh's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree I have the BDS AAL in the rear of of my truck I didn't notice much of a change in ride quality due to it already being pretty rough. It flexes good for me! For junkyard parts just look up a list of junkyard parts (for an XJ and 99% will work for a MJ) on google and couple good lists will show up showing you have you can use. I know a guy on NAXJA used f-150 leafs in a bastard pack for 3" lift. I don't remember the year though. If you do decide to buy a new kit and not go with junkyard parts Hell Creek makes a new leaf back with a 3" lift. I know they have a good reputation among the CC community. http://www.hellcreeksuspensions.com/ -
Very nice. Blue is always better then red but I'm bias.

Are the injectors you want to get 0 280 155 746 or 0 280 255 746?

97+ have the 29 spline! If you read that they aren't good axles it is either because its from a 27 spline (slightly then a D35) or it is from someone who hasn't actually had one under there truck and is just repeating what they are told. The only down fall of a 8.25 is poor aftermarket support.

Hey I'm in Erie just east of you. I'm in Boulder quite often since Erie has nothing. And thank you for planning on redoing the paint job. Now just get that bad boy on some trails. -
That blue is shweet. Coming together real nice.

Are you still running the 8.25? How has it held up?
-
Gone out to any trails yet?

87Warrior has a good suggestion because I-70 can get painfully backed up anywhere along the high way. But if you do decide to go through I-70 Idaho Springs is a good stop. Lots of good family owned restaurants and you can throw a rock down any side road and hit a trail. I believe off exit 240 you can drive all the way up Mt. Evans and say you hiked it. If you want a good hike Hanging Lake is excellent. Other then hanging lake if you want to hike anywhere outta Boulder I couldn't really help ya. I'd love to show you around the great state of Colorado but unfortunately I'll be in Montana by the time you are out this way but if you have any questions about where to go or what to do feel free to ask. Once you get to Utah if you are looking for 4x4 trails http://www.traildamage.com/ is going to be your best friend. Directions for getting to the trail are not the best but they give good general ratings for the trails and will give you an idea of where they are. Also FunTreks books are great. I have both the Colorado books and are almost an invaluable thing to have while on trails.

Waterfalls? I've never been but I hear the ones near Rifle Colorado are good(Western slope). Another good thing is the hot springs in Glenwood Springs(western slope), I haven't been in like 5 years and if I remember can be kinda pricey but if you wanna relax in natures hot tub they are great. Hell Colorado has all sorts of great free things to experience! Ever hiked a 14er? That's free (the crap you bring with isn't) and comes with bragging rights. Or just regular hikes you don't need to climb up a mountain. Lots of good wheeling any where in the state too.

Going down to pueblo would be a bit outta the way unless where you are going in Utah is south. Denver has a lot of great stuff and so does boulder about 45 minutes north. But boulder is different it's a good different but you just gotta go there to understand. I know everyone likes voodoo doubts in Denver. I've never been nor do I know where it is but I guess it's worth a try. If you are in the mood for some Mexican, Gregorio's is pretty good. Right off I-70 and wadsworth about a mile or two south. Also be prepared for stop and go along I-70 especially in the mountains. Leave somewhat early and don't be expecting to keep up with everyone. You maybe able to but whenever I head that way in my MJ it's a painfully slow experience for someone with a lead foot.

Love my manual it's great for the mountains but in Tennessee I don't think that would be a selling point. Manuals are always more fun to drive in my opinion and on road I love having more control over the gears then an auto. The shift throws aren't long but I've only driven wranglers and Comanches that are manual so I couldn't compared to non-jeep vehicles.

My '89 Comanche - Getting an LS2
dscowell replied to Korsch_RS's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Still loving your build. You are the first person to say that the duratracs don't preform as well as you would like in the snow. Everyone else I talk to says that they are almost a must have during the winter.- 117 replies

Go slow! These trucks are old and have old parts flying down a trail will tear the poor thing a part and will make you feel sick. Disconnect your sway bars and air down your tires. This isn't necessary but will make the ride a lot better. And the most important thing go with someone who knows what they are doing. Knows the trails knows how to spot and knows how to help out if something bad happens. You can learn and soon be leading the inexperienced. Really just be smart if you don't feel comfortable don't do it. Also over prepare lots of water food extra clothes all that stuff just incase you have to spend the night on the trail always better to be safe then sorry. I also like to take a book along with me that has the trails really helps out to know if you are going the right way and what is next.

It was connected to the vacuum canister that was mounted to the original bumper. I needed to relocate it and threw it in the engine bay to get it out of the way and the old line snapped. I doubt you will have a line that is this bad, it could just be a small hole as well so I'd just make sure to check all the lines. I ended up getting the smallest line they had at AutoZone and just putting the two ends in the new line due to the new line being just a little too large. It did help my problem just it did not fix it completely. Another Idea is to check the fuel filter I know sometimes that can cause problems and it just a good thing to replace if it hasn't been replaced lately. I'd also take advice from eagle and yxmj they know much more then me.

Check vacuum lines I had the same problem and it was due to a vacuum line that snapped in half.
