  1. After the core charge was refunded, rebuilt callipers for my '91 were $35 up here in Soviet Canuckistan. The only reason brakes would be overheating is if they were dragging or you're riding them and/or standing on them every stop. I'm assuming you would know if it was the latter, so they're probably dragging. Does "I have kept all the brake parts up to the callipers" mean they're '87 parts? As Eagle said, if you've got '90+ steering knuckles (which you will if the axle was untouched from a '91) then you'll need to use the hub and all brake components (the lines are fine if they screwed in) from the later setup. Pads, rotors, everything. My bet is the junkyard callipers are just that... Junk. Also, if you cooked the pads real good once, they're probably not going to perform very well for you. They have a tendency to turn into powder if you overheat them a few times too many.
  2. Pretty sure the fuel pump was the same for Renix and HO, just everything else back there was different. If your truck is a '91, it has a check engine light. Even if it hasn't been triggered (I.e. illuminated), there could be stored codes. All it takes is rocking the ignition key back and forth to check, don't need a fancy scanner or even to start the engine. Unless of course your CEL was illuminated for so long the bulb burnt out... or someone pulled it... But you may be on the right track with the fuel pump. Mine (in my '91) exhibited similar symptoms very occasionally for a year and like, 10,000 miles, before it started becoming painfully clear the pump was dying. But check codes and try to look at the ballast resistor before you shell out for a new pump. And if you do end up needing a new pump don't get the $#!&ty Delphi one... It doesn't fit in the holder and the adapter kit is garbage... I had no choice but to use one on a roadtrip (took me 1000 miles at no more than 2000rpm before I found any pump) and with some creative hose clamping I made it work... But within two weeks it obviously popped out of the holder cause now I run out of gas just below a half tank.
  3. That generation Ram had NV3500 and 4500's in them, light vs heavy duty. I'd ASSume at least one of them went behind a 318/5.2
  4. X2 on checking for codes. I'd also take a look at the ballast resistor. If it happens bypass it and see what's up.
  5. Why I said "likely"
  6. The 2.5/manual will likely be 4.10 geared, the 4.0/auto will most likely be 3.55. I'd rather have the 4.10's. Is there a matching front axle from the '87?
  7. Yup. If it wasn't 2600 miles away...
  8. Isn't the Sportruck just the base model?
  9. It's not uncommon for more lift in the front to eliminate the fairly steep factory rake, even in a lot of more modern trucks. Just make sure your headlights have been adjusted down to compensate or else you'll be blinding everyone else on the road at night.
  10. Ditto on the flexplate. Although when mine was making noise, it was actually working its way to a two-piece deal. This was (in my mind) caused by another problem that caused similar noises, the bellhousing bolts backing out of the engine block.
  11. What exactly do you want to do with your truck when you're done? If it's anything other than gentle street use you're better off ditching the Dana 35 for something a little less... twig-like. I can't really offer much more in the way of advise than that. I've got a Chrysler 8.25 from a KJ with disc brakes and the gears I want sitting back home waiting to go into mine.
  12. I had my a/c drain tube plug up. Condensation from the evaporator would puddle and then pour out of the floor vents going around corners. There's a small rubber hose in the engine bay coming out of the heater box and pointing down. Popping that off dumped at least a gallon of water onto the ground. Pushed a screwdriver through the hose and put it back on, and it hasn't been an issue since.
  13. Does anyone else think that truck looks familiar? Maybe it's just me. I also dealt with an issue of my sway bar smacking the coil spring. Just on the other passenger side. Completely stock setup, just, well, worn I guess. Changing out the end links for a new-looking junkyard set from an XJ and the bar (and bushings) from a ZJ (also junkyard) after the end links broke made it better, but didn't solve it. Eventually I was underneath doing something else, and noticed that the bottom coil on that side had rusted through and/or otherwise broken off at the little strap that retained it. The spring lodged itself somewhere solid and wasn't going anywhere, but it did mean that the spring being a touch out of place was the most significant cause of the contact with the sway bar.
  14. Is there any difference in the feature set then? I still haven't had the opportunity to compare the two yet, I just moved houses and am still waiting for the Internet to get set up in the new one. But I'm not seeing a way to toggle signatures on or off, or anything like that, for example. I'm not really a fan of dedicated mobile sites, lol. So the more similar to the original without chewing through data when I'm not on wifi the better I guess.
  15. Really I didn't intend for this to deviate away from a light-hearted thread about the eclipse. More heat means the ground dries out faster, there's less water for plants, etc. Unless there's huge shifts in weather patterns, areas that are already in rain shadows won't get all that much more rain than they do already. A lot of dryer areas survive because of the dew that condenses at night. The hotter temperatures mean less dew is deposited and it gets pulled back into the atmosphere sooner during the day. Dryer ground means dryer vegetation and more severe fires. This year has definitely been one of extremes.
  16. That's been my view pretty well all summer. We've had better and worse weeks, but clear skies have been few and far between. It's been a bad fire season, somehow we've been lucky and haven't had one here yet, but all throughout the AB/BC mountains it's been bad. Just this weekend the wind picked up and blew a small fire over the continental divide, burning almost the entirety of Waterton Lakes national park, easily my favourite park, in about 12 hours. Climate change is a thing. More heat means less humidity, bigger storms with more lightening strikes... It's just going to get worse from here.
  17. Probably something that doesn't come up too often, but the old forum had the option to switch back to the desktop site. But it seems like now we're just forced to use the mobile version on mobile devices? I haven't figured out a way around it yet at least.
  18. for that little bit of extra reach
  19. I dunno. The one pic posted up, but the first one I tried also gave me the message saying it was too big. I suspect the pic that did post is much smaller because it was taken with an older, lower-res camera, and also is a file that's kicked around a few different websites before going back into my phone, meaning it's much smaller than the original file was. Anyt original pictures taken with my current phone are way over the 500kb limit as well. You might be able to edit pics on your phone in a way to get them down below the threshold, either natively in the photos editing function, or else with a different app.
  20. Looks like I can upload from iOS.
  21. It's a beautiful machine. I'm just sad I didn't get to see more of it. There was just too much else going on the couple times we did encounter each other. We did speak briefly though. Said he's planning an AX-15 swap and there's a couple other niggles that needed looked at. I did better in the rally though...
  22. I was just north of Idaho Falls on the way back from the Lemons Rally. Definitely happy we took the time to stop and wait. Perfectly clear skies, we saw stars come out during totality. It's one of those things I'll never forget. Just wish I had a better camera than my phone so I could've taken pictures.
  23. I'll have to go digging. I remember someone on another site spotted a couple MJ's up north somewhere, maybe Iqaluit? They were pretty rough though. Looked like tons of use at low speeds and not much in the way of maintenance. Edit: found it. Not quite as rough as I remember but not great either. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/cciarat-iqaluit-nunavut-canada-1790572679
  24. I've got an 8.25 out of a 2003 2.5l KJ. Disc brakes and 4.10's. I grabbed all the suspension when I pulled it cause I wasn't sure if whenever I got around to putting it in, if I'd want to keep the leafs or attempt to make the coils and 3-link fit. I'm not sure I'm any closer to a decision on that. Or like, actually doing either, considering the truck and axle have been 1000 miles apart for the last five months.
  25. Just as a precaution you might want to unplug your ecu before you get started welding. With the amount of electricity flowing through things you can end up inducing current in places you wouldn't expect, so it's best to be safe. I've seen one fried before.
