New Member Project...suggestions?
CWLONGSHOT replied to xjcrazy09's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
VERY NICE RIG!! I have one suggestion, You need to get a cover for that winch. I have the identical winch and synthetic line setup. I like the neoprene Ramsey cover. Its stretches over everything. The synthetic line is degraded by the UV in sunlight. The loop where the hook attaches is especially susceptible to failure. this is where synthetics get a bad rap... CW -
Your nuts... :D ;) :brows: Good luck!! CW

Here is my take on trying to be Politically correct... Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end. Don't remember where I found that, but really like it. CW

Thanks Li008, Good luck with yours!!! I got the new Radiator in this afternoon. Now the temp sits just before 200, most all the time!! I put a 190 stat in this time so thats just about right. CW

That's SMART advice right there!! When everything else checks out, Its time to go back and start looking at those "new" replacement parts!! CW -
Well... yes and no. To just throw one on and expect tremendous HP gains. I completely agree with the others...NO. Unless your doing something to your fuel delivery system and your exhaust system. You money is better spent. As part of a complete system, Yes. That's different, then they have merritt. If your gonna have a free flowing exhaust, tubular exhaust manifold (s) open up your ports to gasket size and maybe even a cam upgrade. Definitely, followed by a larger TB. Then YES the spacer will add a bit. Even then, this kind of upgrade only really help with freeway driving speeds, I mean close to WOT acceleration. I put one on my TJ and other than the whistle didn't notice much. Later on, I upgraded to a Banks header and 2.5" magna-flo exhaust, 60mm TB and blended intake manifold. I noticed a much improved top end. Again, the differences where noticed when I tromped on it or when passing on freeway. Ultimately, you will have to decide. CW

move your alternator ?????
CWLONGSHOT replied to Rokhound's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I picked up a 200 last summer. With that increase power, you need to do some rewiring to the charging system. It called for a 6ga chg wire in place of the 10ga factory. I went 4ga for good measure. There is two, because I was unsure of routing. (I made these myself.) CW -

How did my MJ not burn up ... ??
CWLONGSHOT replied to BLHTAZ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Built them myself. Pn CW123456789     ;) Here is my some wires. Top is a 4ga for the alt, second is the neg batt cable. Here is what the cable ends turned out like. Here is a shot of the alt. Here is a shot of the batt with everything buttoned up. The starting cables run of the cheby, side posts. The winch and 12v supply for the rest of the MJ run off the top posts. My batt shut off is also wired in off the side posts but not the winch. That has its own switch. I have the crimper at work, picked up the wire from there as well. We revamped one of our old film/X-Ray machines and this was scrap wire from that. Just bought the correct sized shrink tube and connector from Granger's and put it together!! CW -

Many of us have found these lights a nice addition to our MJ's!! Good find!! CW -
For those of you who have done this. (Or those who might know :D ) My brother-in-law has a '88 long bed big ton MJ. Its got the 4.0 with a BA10/231/D44 rear. We pulled the '89 4.0 from my latest parts XJ for rebuild. I asked if he was going to keep the BA10 or upgrade to the AX15. I offered one that I have along with the 23spl T case he will need. My question is concerning Drive shafts. Will he work or need shortening/lengthening. This is part of his build-up. He is also getting a RE 5.5 lift SOA rear and will be running 33X10.5X15 BFG MT's. GOOD JOB outta you MAN!!! You single handily saved another MJ!!! I did mine last summer when I put in the 200amp ALT. I put in new MUCH larger cables. MAN it sure spins fast and even starts a bit quicker as well!! GOOD JOB with yours!! CW -
..... wrong .... it may not give 100% of the lift it would on an xj, but you can't say its un level... (this coming from someone whos installed a re 3.5 sf2 kit on an sua mj) I beg your pardon... XJ leafs do not have the same arch or legnth as a MJ spring. SO, an XJ Add-A-Leaf can NOT possibly offer the same advertised lift for a MJ leaf, period. CW

Front Shocks for Stock Height MJ
CWLONGSHOT replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I completely agree with the DR. (Shouldn't you always listen to him?)The MONROE Sense-A-Trac's are TOP choice. they are a great shock!! They can even work for 2" lifted XJ/MJ's by choosing YJ front shocks. Bar Pin Eliminators are your choice. They are also a great idea and work well. I have top and bottoms on my MJ. I used the tops to gain and extra inch that I needed. IMHO, the only shock I have scene to work better and ride nicer than the sense - A - trac's is Bilstein's. CW -
