  1. FYI, there are more than two different versions of the D44's. BUT, to the best of my knowledge, only one was ever offered in the XJ/MJ platform. Maybe they are thinking the metric ton had different brakes shoes/drumsm than the STD D44? They where all 10"X2.5" as far I can remember? Eagle...... CW
  2. ITS YOUR REAR PROPORTIONING VALVE. IT ADJUSTS HOW MUCH BRAKING YOUR REAR BRAKES GET BASED ON THE WEIGHT YOUR CARRING. Sorry for yelling... It has or should have nothing to do with your AAL install. Accept that you will need to make it longer in respect to your amount of lift. Yes you could eliminate it. Do a search on the subject. Use EAGLE as a author. you will get PLENTY of info. cw
  3. Pete, Unless your doing the re-gear yourself, you a bit out of touch with re-gearing costs at least here on the east coast... I have to tell you, the laugh is getting gears done for $250-300. IF its true, the line forms BEHIND ME. As think I just found my next new business venture, broker for re-gearing axles!!! :brows: The gears alone are a couple hundred, then a rebuild kit (bearings and seals) is another buck to buck and a half. Now your up to $400 - 450 and you haven't even TOUCHED the axle to put them in yet. Most shops get 75 - 90 per hour and even in a perfect world its a two hour job. Thats another $150 - 180. (Your not going to find ANYONE who would actually do it for that.) That brings the re-gearing costs up to a total of $550 - 630. Whoa now.. that $650 the guy is asking doesn't seem such a far fetched now does it? BTW, I also have a 4:10 geared, locked, Hi-pinion D30 for sale. PM me for more details, I'm in Connecticut. Only a couple hour drive from Boston. Ooh, BTW something else to chew on. Just throw in the new axle SUA (Same as factory) and save until you have the funds to do it up correctly. The 29spl swap is easy and you may even want some kind of a traction aide by then. Its only perches (Leave whats there, there for now) for the leafs and shock mounts, (I can show you how to make a set for cheap.) neither one is any kind of problem at all. As I said, its NO BIGGIE to swap over to 29 splines. Then there ain't only slight strength diff between it a an 8.8 or D44. CW
  4. Just a note... The amount of smoke is directly related to the amount of buildup in the engine. NOT all results the same. Like Dirty says, enough people use and and like or see good results. CW
  5. Swapping to 29 splines later is easy of the axle is open. The CASE/HOUSING on the 8.25 is where you are gaining stregnth over the D35. Its a worthwhile swap, I agree with Pete. CW

    winches

I have both. the TJ has a MM 9500 while the MJ has a WARN 8000. If you use them as 90% of winch owners do the cheapo will serve you just fine. My club had an ongoing thread on this and finally decided to check it out first hand. one of our "aggressive" members bought a Harbour Freight special for his Sami. that little cheapo pulled that sami and a whole bunch of the rest of us up some serious terrain and never had a single problem. With the big names you have a big sales pitch to help pay for. You don't with the cheaper models. Unless you can find a name brand used for a good price, I say go buy the cheapo!! CW
  7. Pete is correct. Personally I would just buy a complete pack from Motion. You COULD pick up a RE long leaf like I did along with an additional MJ leaf or two. Unsure what it will net you or how stiff it will be. But it WILL be taller than stock. The RE long AAL I use got me about an inch when added to my 4" Rusty's pack. So it should be good for about 2" in a factory pack. But its all speculation... Good luck, CW
  8. I agree, I think when you look you are going to find a bad pulley. Either one that tweaked, not installed correctly or from a wrong vehicle. Could also be as simple as something one the pulleys them selves. There is also BELT DRESSING you can apply. CW
  9. A properly setup ARB is absolutely as reliable as any other selectable locker. It is also my preference as I find it easier to run the variable length air lines than to deal with a set length cable. They had some issues WAY back when they first came on the market, but so did the OX. I have had first hand experience with both and can honestly tell you as long as you follow directions and install them as the manufacturer recommends, either one will provide YEARS of reliable service. CW
  10. The "nose" of the axle should be pointing downward a couple degrees if your running a stock setup. The theory is that when you accelerate the springs load up and allow the nose of the pumpkin to raise so its pointing directly at the T-case output. CW
  11. Thats how mine works!! CW

  15. I usually do not respond to political threads as they never go well. But I gotta say we are in fact, seeing a pattern here, the past few elections seem to have been a choice between the lesser of two evils... I am very very concerned about Obama as our president. Just look at what the democrats have offered for the past 2-3 elections. If this is the best choice they have to offer, they are in a VERY sorry state. For the most part I like what the republicans have to say and what they do. McCain has also had his issues, but he is a decorated American soldier. He is a man has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, he will lay down his life and put this country's needs BEFORE his own. I am very afraid Obama will sell us all out. Further more, with Obama, we simply get a polished speaker who is offering nothing more than lip service. He has proven NOTHING to me. His statements are double talk and miss-information. I question almost everything about him. Not the least of which, his faith, where his priorities lie, what kind of man he actually is and what he actually brings to the "table". Not much as far as I see. Just my humble opinions, CW

  17. This IS going to be my next MJ project. SB Cheby, T400, 9' ford rear, 2WD, lowered and stiff with handling and go fast mods in mind. I had a line on one, for some time. I was just waiting for the guy to get off the pot.... Deal fell thru, his nephew got the rig. That one looks good!!! CW

    TIRES

I also like the BFG's. I agree with Pete, watch local jeepers and buy a used set!! I have had at least 6 sets of them, most go to 60,000 miles and a couple have been bought used, NO issues, Just be sure they are marked for rotation. Dunlops are a good tire but made from a much softer compound, you will not get the mileage from them. Yes, I have owned two sets of them as well... CW
  21. Incorrect, MJ springs are 52", static and closer to 57" with the weight of the truck on them. CW
  22. Have at it dude! :brows: ;) http://www.motionoffroad.com/catalog/
  23. Your in luck my friend because with age comes experience. You will grow out of this.... :D A pick-up truck has a bed. A bed is used to carry things, many times these things can be heavy. SO, the vehicle manufactures in there infinite wisdom, make the rear suspensions stiffer, with a higher load rating. This usually equates to a slightly higher stance. This is all so the durability of the vehicle is SAFE when carrying the rated load on our roads. This IS of coarse 1989 technology.... ;) CW
  24. ???? My axle is still sitting on top of the springs. SOA is in the planning for the (very distant) future. Oops, my bad.. reading/commenting on too many rigs tonight.... Sorry man. Well my comments on the shackle length still stand. Keep them with in 2" of stock length. Even that is a pretty long shackle. CW
  25. Eagle, When is that book of your coming out????? CW
