  2. You really should re-setup the gears. The shims move the carrier left or right to achieve the proper pattern on the teeth. The shims go between the side of the case and the bearings, no two are exactly the same. If you want to take the chance that's up to you, but IF you do at the very least go to the dealer and buy OEM bearings. that way you will at least have a fighting chance the bearings dimensions will be the same or close. Go out and buy a chinese bearing and I guarantee you will find PROBLEMS as the dimensions WILL not be the same..... CW
  3. I agree, just re-build it now before the install. Good find too!! CW
  4. No, manual hubs are NOT necessary. You can lock the front with no issues. With no power going to it there will be no noticing it is even there. I have run one for YEARS, aside from the disengaging/ratcheting noise in corners its is completely invisible. Mine is a Aussie in a D30. CW
  5. The local GETTY just dropped to 2.89 a gal CASH of coarse... WOOHOO, first time under 3 is a LONG time. CW
  6. In my experience, Platinum plugs have no business in the older Jeep engines. They can cause problems, although i have never herd of it causing them to "fall apart". Go get yourself a reg old Champion or Auto-lite plug, Copper or copper plus is good. CW
  7. The GC shafts are just about as strong, at least as strong as the 260's and have a greater range of motion. Also not all GC's have them... mostly just the AWD models again its because they don't bind as they will work in a greater range of motion. As prev mentioned, its a Jeep so perts vary WIDELY. But as I said, they where spec'ed for the full time FWD models. Locally I was able to get a set for DAMN REASONABLE!! At the parts store!! Check them out before heading to the JY.. you may just surprise yourself. CW
  8. Good day.... :D CW
  9. Man. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Having the other dogs will likely offer the most support. I know they did for me. I lost my first dog (Sport) when I was just a boy, maybe 9 or 10. That was bad enough. I lost another one (Also Sport) in 1986, I still think on him from time to time. I have even called my current dog (Riley) Sport. I also lost my Mom two years ago to Cancer. It was the most moving thing I have ever experienced, not to mention my darkest day to date. Followed closely by my second dogs passing. We got "Riley" "used" from a friend of a friend. They had a baby on the way and he was far too rambunctious for an infant. So they gave him up. He is now 10 and I am where you where a few years ago. I know its only a matter of time. Keep you chin up and take care of you and yours. He will be waiting for you....... I raise my glass to all the "best friends" we have all lost. CW
  10. That is correct. I can't remember the guys last name, but he was in a club I belonged to and I have met him a number of times. He was part and parcel to the design and distribution of the lunch box locker concept. the Aussie is a improvement on that design. You WILL be satisfied with this product!! CW
  11. Aussie DEFINEAYELY!!! I have one and have at least three buddies also running them, GREAT product.. One GREAT thing no STUPID tire size limitations!!! CW
  12. I do not think its ganna make a difference. I think its anti loc avalibility and if so has no bearing on our applications. I am running 4" ext YJ lines on mine. don't remember for sure the year, but I THINK it was 95... CW
  13. Eagle is correct. You CAN do this, BUT you need to go complete WJ from the knuckles out. You WILL end up with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern, so you may want to do the same out back to make it match. Its a good upgrade in strength and design. The steering linkage is different so you will need that as well. The drag link is also different, BUT the stock one MAY work. On that I am not sure. I HAVE seen one done where the guy was able to retain the 4.5 on 5 bolt pattern, but I do not know if he mixed parts or re-drilled rotors/hubs. CW
  14. AFAIK, from 88+ they had 8 slots. The last year for the 10 slot was 1987. My '87 had the 10, and my current '88 has the 8 slot. This type of thing is ALWAYS the case with jeep. Someone ALWAYS has something someone else says they shouldn't based on the year. I have a 1987 with a 8 slot, now I KNOW it didnt come form the factory like that. I didnt put it on there either. I have had three 88's and all had the 10 slot. I have also had three 89's and they all had 8 slots. This is in NO WAY the rule. But you can see how confusing it can be and I have only mentioned 7-8 vehicles. Let me just remind everyone for the UMTEENTH time. Our trucks are are least 17 years old. I don't know of anyone on here who bought one new. SO, other people have had there hands on them. Making changes we may not realize or would have no possible way of knowing. Not to mention Jeep is DOCUMENTED to have used what ever was avalible for parts. Ford stuff, Dodge stuff and Cheby stuff... yup, its ALL there, somewhere in the Jeep line. :D CW
  15. Not positive as there are questionable things about the first year MJ's (1986) But I am going to say its going to depend on trim package. Some where like Pat just described, while others where all black and lastly some where black and chrome. Not to mention they had 10 slots until the 1990 year,(Some 1989's as well) when they went to 8 slots. Don't ask me why as we all know Jeep is known to have 7 slots.... Paint it as you like. Rustoleum and others offer some "PLASTIC" specific paint. I would like to try it. But Reg Rustoleum has worked just fine for ever... I just finished masking out a old all black grill I had in the Garage. Its gonna get sprayed the same blue as the body. But I am leaving the grill inserts black. Don't know how it will look. Guess I'll know when its done. ;) CW
  16. That's "EUGENE the JEEP", he is a majical dog like creature that lives in an alternate reality to Popeye. He would "pop" in and out to help Popeye in the cartoons. "The animated cartoons took the straightforward approach of defining the character as some type of dog. In The Jeep (1938), Popeye presents the animal to Olive Oyl and Swea'Pea with the simple explanation, "The Jeep's a magical dog and can disappear and things." In Popeye Presents Eugene the Jeep (1940), it is Popeye who receives the creature from Olive, in a box via a special delivery man (voiced by Pinto Colvig), and with the premise that he had never seen the creature before: "Well, blow me down! A baby puppy!"" My buddie, Spencer @ jeepsticker.com made them up for me. He is the guy I turned on to you guys for jeep stickers, some time back. He has made a bunch for fun and OEM style pieces for many of the guys on here. Not positive, but he may make the stickers for Pete as well. Drop him a line and be sure you say your from comanche club!! CW
  17. The 1989 is a RENIX system, they do not start right up like modern cars do. Its just the nature of the beast. The D30 is actually a very tight corning axle. There is something going on with yours . It should also be the same in both directions. Have someone steer while you lay in front of Jeep and watch whats happening. I'll bet something is bent. Never herd that, but doubt it as the bases are vehicle specific. CW
  18. Ouch.. Thats quite a pile of rust you have there.... start cleaning..... The lower shock mounts on the FRONT axle looked FUBAR.. are they OK? CW
  19. Got some stickers on the MJ tonight... (Sorry they are cell phone pix... ) And of coarse the most important one... THANKS Spencer!!!
  20. Eagle is of coarse correct... ;) You CAN swap in your Knuckles, Hubs, Rotors and Calipers to the '94 axle and be fine. Something to think on if you go this route, far be sure to look hard at the ball joints as your well into the job of changing them at that point. If any question exists on there condition, its best to just bite the bullet and do it now. Its better than have to do it again in 2-3 months when its -20 out side. Good luck, CW
  21. YES, You didn't mention the year as the rotors, knuckles and calipers could be different. But worse case, you just use the ones you have now and go. Other than that its identical basically to the axle in the MJ only with out the CAD and two piece axle.(Non-Disco = one piece shafts) It does have the smaller and slightly weaker 260 joints. But don't fret about that, its what you have now. Have you broken those?? CW
  22. Words of wisdom right there... Now just GO BUY NEW LEAFS!! ;) CW
  23. Cannot think of what an "E"CLIP" might be... Can you post a pic of it? CW
  24. I think he means YEAR as the TJ is a TJ as far as that goes. BTW, $250 is good for a stock HI-Pinion D30. You mentioned he WANTED it FOR a TJ project before. Now your saying its OUT OF a TJ. Which is correct? It makes a difference as the TJ never came with a HI-Pinion D30 and the MJ ALWAYS did. Doesn't matter as far as fitment, both will fit either NO ISSUES. Hi Pinion is better for a couple reasons. (Stronger, better angles for a lifted vehicle.)
