aftermarket exhaust setups?
CWLONGSHOT replied to dancome433's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you can compress the suspension that far you have far more problems than just a dented tail pipe!! :brows:   It doesn't even come close, so no this is not an issue. CW -
Its a FORD front axle. Built somewhere from 1929-1940!!! That is a king-pin knuckle that has been pinned so it will not turn. KEWL HUH!?!? Pete, your right, I noticed the "ground clearance" axle too!! Its rusty, but its mostly all surface rust. This thing is all built of thick steel. The bed itself is bent and welded 1/8" thick and the frame appears to be 1/4" thick. Even the front tongue area is built of 1" thick steel!!! I tried to lift it onto its rear bumper so I could give it a good "rub" with wire brushes. But its too heavy. (I'm not allowed to really exert myself like I could before. CW

Invest in there own mounts for the hilift. They work very well and have holes drilled for locks. Here is where mine is. VERY handy!! CW

foam mat under carpet?
CWLONGSHOT replied to xComancheKidx's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
DO NOT REMOVE THAT FOAM/BATTING FROM UNDER THE CARPET!!! How on earth do you expect to rot out your floors without something there to asorb and hold all the water?? You GOTTA be new at this jeep thing!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D CW -
Well, I had kinda stalled on this build with other things going on. But today I picked up a complete trailer for the axle. $40 well spent!! I pulled the hubs to check the bearings and found they where shot... The gamble we take with used/abused stuff. Turns out the axle is out of a 1929-1940 Ford front axle. I could tell it was a front axle when I saw the king-pin axle. My first thought here was just to grab the axle and toss the rest. But the dimensions are quite close to my build plans. Its a 60" deck, same as mine. Its 45" wide mine is 50". Its got 12" sides mine has 18". Its got a rear gate, mine has front and rear gates. An inaccurate measurement shows about a 58" WMS width. I really want the final product to be able to take a full sheet of plywood, so 48"+ is a requirement. But this axle is too narrow for this. Not a problem!! Here is the axle: As near as I can measure its diameter is 2 1/8" so all I have to do is chop it in the middle and sleeve it with another piece of tubing and re-weld it up to my dimension. Also, as it site the jeep rims will not work. They are the correct lug dimension, just the BS on the factory rim keeps it from bolting up. It crashes hard about 2" before sitting on the WMS. The rims and tires on it are also shot. The rims are rusted badly and the tires dry rotting. I have a set of 12" trailer tires and rims to get it thru inspection. So I can do what ever to cover this. Then once registered, I can rebuild with the steel I already have and just stamp frame numbers into new trailer when I'm done. I think I may just run this as is for a time and see how it works. CW

I have had a number of mufflers and I seem at always go back to a "turbo" style. Pick your poison, there are a number of makers. I have used the Dynomax, Magnaflow, Thrush and tried to buy the Gibson. Jegs fumbled my order three times so I told them to stick it! The cherry bomb is durable and cheep. But gets obnoxiously loud as the time passes. Its cheap and durable that's about it. CW

All I have done with mine is to add some spacers & longer bolts to the upper hinge bolts. BUT for some time I have been really liking the LUND dual scoops. http://www.lundinternational.com/lund_i ... truck.aspx CW

I have used Monroe Senc-A-tracks for years and like them very much. Its common knoledge here that Old Man Emu and Billstein are the top choices for shocks. Either one will drematically inprove the drivebility and comfort. I sprung for the 5150 remote res front shocks and 5125 rears. DREMATICALLY improved ride quality. Cost a bit over $100 a corner. Everything outlined in my build post in my signature. CW

Before you go too far with just swapping parts out willy nilly...   Do a search here. Use EAGLE as the topic author and DEATH WOBBLE as the topic. MIND NUMBING amounts of information will follow. If your stabulizer is bad, swapping in a new one, will only MASK the true problem. Happy reading.. CW

Rear lift shackles, drivability
CWLONGSHOT replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Agreed, these shackles are obviously not correct for this application. I would return them and buy the correct shackles. your bushings will not survive nearly as long with the extra movement. as you said, they are 20 years + old. Maybe its time to swap these out as well. If the replacement is not an option, some good grade 8 washers can be added between the bushing and the shackle to take up the space. But its likely you will not completely eliminate the sloppy feeling. CW -
Would the LED bulbs that plug in to the original socket cause the signals to flash far more quickly than before due to the lower voltage requirements of the LED vs incandescent? My understanding is resistors required for normal signal function do not usually come with the cheap LEDs at A-Z. The faster flashing is likely for the reasons you listed. Resistors are NOT recommended as they get really hot and are a fire hazard. LED compatible flashers are available and will likely fix the fast flash problem. CW

:agree: :agree: :agree: I have owned most of these. I like the WJ best of all for looks and driving. But I do like the 5.2 (318) V8 better don't get me wrong, the 4.7 is a damn good motor and works perfectly in the WJ. Its AWEFUL in a RAM BTW. You don't mention a duget, but WJ's are had here for 6-10 grand depending on miles and options. My pop just bought a loaded '02 WJ limited for $7200 out the door. Cash talks, asking price was $9999.

Depending on your year there are a couple ways the switch for this light worked. Crawl under and take it apart for a good cleaning. Could be the works are just gummed up, could be not completely enough disengaging... Its not a difficult thing and should be done periodically anyhow. I think I have a link to this somewhere.... http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=n ... +cad+setup.

I moved it to the side @ 04:00 this AM, to drive the topless TJ. Cause the F'in weather guy said it was going to be clear..... It started lightly raining before 08:00 and didn't stop till about 14:00!!! :fs1: :fs1: :fs1: :fs1: Its a Jeep, so normally I wouldn't care. But the Corbeau suspension seats don't do well soaked with water. Long and short of it...should have driven the MJ!!! :brows: ;) :D CW

LOL, I have a VERY simular pic.... only the pic is quite likely older than you!! LOL That pic was taken when I was 16 yrs... in 1982.  ;) CW

NICE UNIT!!! I was in the market some time back, settled on a used unit and it failed. I havent replaced it yet. Post up how you like it once you get some time with it!! CW

I looked through your build, the seats look real good. If I can't find a jeep seat I like I may go that route. The Honda seats were just a passing thought. Shame they'd be such a PITA, they were good looking seats. That's my point, I wasn't so much suggesting the seats I bought although I do like them. But rather the way they mounted. Not even close to a "bolt-in" to the factory bases. Making new ones isn't hard, you just need to take some time and think on it. You will likely figure out a way to make them work!! CW

Maybe I just missed the age group it was intended for. Had I been much younger, under about 13, I would have been impressed by all the cool transforming cars. Had I been between the ages of 13-18 I would have associated with it as it was supposed to be about people my age, trying to talk to a girl impossible out of my league, and dealing with high school jackass jocks. Fact of the matter is I get tired of the high-school jock cliche pretty quick, and I never played with transformers as a kid. Turns out I worked on real cars when I was a kid, guess that means I cannot take joy in the "coolness" of a semi that also turns into a giant battle robot. Well to each his own I guess, there was no such thing as transformers when I was a kid and I still enjoyed the movie. I saw it in the theater and even bought it for my "collection". I didn't know the second one was out!! I'll check out the newest movie next chance I get!! FWIW, I have a dish/satellite and don't watch "reg" TV channels. Mostly Discovery, Hunting channel, The outdoor channel, History and Speed channel, with a dash of USA and Spike thrown in. :brows: :brows: :D CW

Nothing that bolts in.. no. CW

I have a set of JC Whitney "racing" seats in my MJ. I built the bases from scratch.. not really hard as long as you have a welder and can use it. I did need to do a bit of massaging to the hump on the drivers side, but not a big deal... Check out my build thread for pics and a better explanation... Link is in my signature. CW

And so we fall futher into the deep dark hole of addiction.
CWLONGSHOT replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
I know what you guys mean... Only my pop ALWAYS has his cell with him... but he is deaf as a stump and doesn't hear the thing ring but 10% of the time!! :shake: To make this even more humorous, if he calls you and gets your message. His message is always the same... " I don't understand why people have cell phones if they don't answer them". LOL LOL :rotf: :rotf: Hopefully you have it Pete and your out massaging it right now!! :brows: :D CW
