Electrical nightmare
WahooSteeler replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Battery I can pull, alternator a little more involved since I have to remove the front skid plate etc. If I get lucky and get it to start again, I can drive to Advance Auto since they are in the same shopping center as my office. And since we are the property mgr's for the shopping center, I won't get towed if it has to sit for a couple of days! :brows: Hell, across the lot is a vacant muffler shop that I could even push it in to, worst case, to do the work if the alternator needs replacing. I'm thinking that may be a good possibility since I've had the squeeling belts for several months now also, and it increases with RPMs. I may be wrong, but that still doesn't seem to explain the instant "cut-in cut-out" of the juice to me. -
Simple Green is awesome and completely bio-degradable.

I read a pretty cool article this morning about how the cost of fuel, interest rates etc. is affecting everyone, and in particular the serious Off Road fanatics of Iceland. I'm sure many of you, like me, have seen pics of some of their rigs before with huge flotation tires and a lot of mods to venture out in to the snow covered wilderness. I've also seen a story about they're rigs and love for wheelin on Discovery Channel. Anyway, below is a link to the article and one of the pictures you'll see, and there is also a video. Check it out.......... Image Not Found http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1209675 ... l?mod=ONLX

Electrical nightmare
WahooSteeler replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought of those things and will do, but what doesn't add up there is that I made two differet stops before the trash run and it fired right both times. Also as I said, sometimes as soon as I turn the key, the power cuts out. I.E., interior lights on, turn key to "on" position, everything goes dead BEFORE I even try to turn it over. Now, several times I checked to make sure it was all the way in Park, which it was, but would pull it back to N and then to P again to make sure. A couple of times the lights and door/key buzzer would fire back up while doing this, and then die when I turned the key to the on position again. Hmmm, just realized, NSB switch maybe? Battery "appears" to be fairly new from what I can tell. I guess the other thing to add is the PO had stuff wired all over the place. Fog lights, light inside the cap, etc., which has all since been removed. It appears he also re-wired the aux fan himself as I see half of a factory pigtail in that area and what is clearly add-on wiring after that (although it works great). Worse though, many of his additions he used those blue in-line connectors and straight up splice and dice w/nothing more than electrical tape. -
Tried the Bud Light Lime tonight. It ain't no 'Rona wit a lime now, but pretty decent and blows away Miller Chill IMO.

Well I guess I was due at some point for a headache or two of problems, after all it IS a Jeep, and it does have 200k. So here's my first and I'm looking for help from the electrical specialists here. For the last few months I've actually been driving around with most of my dash pulled apart, electrical components hanging everywhere. ECM, Trans computer, cig lighter, clock, you name it. I took it all apart to install a new radio and to go through all the dash and back lights. Some of you may recall I posted a thread that recently the clock went out, but what was interesting was that there was power to the backlight, just not the clock itself. I still have not installed the radio either because about the same time, I was unable to get it to power up anymore. Previously I had only done a brief connection of the power leads to make sure it powered up (bought used off eBay). I spent several hours two weekends ago looking for potential problems with no luck. As noted in my clock thread before, all fuses are good. So there is some history, and now the back-breaker. I was hauling trash yesterday and when I get back in to go and turn the key........nothing. Not a turn, not a click, nothing. Fortunately my Pop was able to come jump me. Get home, let it run for another 15 mins, shut it down. Come back later and as I expected, no start. So I grab my jump box and let it juice for about 10 mins before I try to turn it. Nothing. Hook it up to the wife's car, let it run a good long time, and basically it will either give me a click or all the interior lights will go out, i.e. not a drop of juice anywhere. Sooooo, my guess is I've got a short drawing it down or loose ground somewhere. What I REALLY think is that it is something in the ignition because power seems to cut in and out a lot when I go to turn the key. Whew.....a lot of info, I know, but I'd rather give as much up front to help get a diagnosis. Ready for your suggestions......

Adam, that's one cute little tyke! He's got more hair than my 2 1/2yr old daughter LOL. Congrats, and welcome aboard the greatest rollercoaster ride of your life...........parenthood! It's scary as hell, sometimes you'll question why the hell you got on board, but in the end the most exhilarating thing you'll ever do. This may be a good place to post an idea I've been thinking about to follow up the "Who am I talking to thread". I think we should start a "here's a picture of my kids thread". I'll find some good ones of the rug rats and post a thread tonight or this weekend to get it started. Actually, Adam how would you like to post up first or maybe, if you're willing to, just have your thread here to start this idea off so we can congratulate you and honor Caleb as the newest Jeeper! IMO I think it would be pretty cool to have the newest baby on the club lead the way. Thoughts?

Hey Taz, they still sell Zima Gold I think :jump: Not a fan of Miller Chill either. I love just about any Mexican beer with a lime in it, Corona, Sol, and particularly Dos Equis (XX) Special Lager (green bottle). Blue Moon is actually owned by Coors, good stuff. I've got a good buddy that used to work for Coors, and on our golf trip he'd just show up with cases of Coors products. Now he works for Diageo who is the importer for Guinness, so in two weeks when we go on our trip (yeah!!) I guess I'll have to slow the pace compared to the Coors products. Before the beer gig he worked for Nabisco. I think I'll take the free beer over the free Easy Cheese, crackers and cookies that he used to bring LOL! Guinness is an acquired taste for sure. I used to hate it, and can still only drink it super cold, not room temp like the Irish and some of my buddies. But it's a relaxing beer once you start drinking it slow and get used to the bitterness. Still not for everyone.

fuel system cleaner?
WahooSteeler replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So you just pour the Seafoam and go, including the crankcase? I thought it was a motor flush that you did with an oil change, i.e. you didn't leave it in there. LOL, I may be a little scared to do it, I remember a post on here of a guy that said after he flushed his motor, don't know if it was with Seafoam, he starting having leaks and he never did before. He said he figured all the gunk and sludge was keeping her tight?! -
Orange whip? Orange whip? Orange whip? We'll take 3 Orange whips. We're on a mission from God.

TJ, cool, I'll look for you maybe when I go for a walkabout. I'm up just where they enter in to Turn 3. I'll be the guy with a beer gut, blue jeans, a hat on and some scanner headphones. Oh, I'll have a racing T-shirt on of some sort. I should stick out like a soar thumb. :brows:

Excellent! Glad you had a good time. Cruising is not for everyone but I think it's still a helluva bang for the buck to do and see as much as you want on one. A good time for sure. Well, hopefully the rain holds off at the race this weekend. Although I'll be more than likely drunk enough that I won't care about getting wet, I'd like to see some good racing. Then I go to Pinehurst for some golf in two weeks so needless to say I'm looking forward to May! Let me know if you are still interested in getting together sometime later in May or in June to work on the trucks and we can help each other out. As I said, I'll be the attentive and hard-working student to your tutoring if we get together. :brows:

MiniBeast, holy crap! I saw his first picture and no friggin lie before I saw your post I thought "too bad we can't insert words in someone else's post or picture because I'd put in there "I drive an F250, you gotta problem with that punk?" great post dude............

J Dawg, you need to throw a mayo sammich in there until the bread is nice and toasty (@38 mins on high) and there is no mayo left, meaning your tub bearings are suitably greased. if you do it when you first get up in the morning, you'll also have a quick breakfast ready after you S, S and S. :brows: are you putting a lift kit under it for extra storage? and finally, did you get the 2.5k watt heating element or the 4.0k one? you'll get more mileage out of the 2.5 one, but the 4.0 will perform better with a heavy load.
-
LOL, not necessarily on a 4.0! Hell, I bought mine with 210k! But $3k is still a bit high on a 20yr old 200k truck. Then again, if I drove it and it ran as well as they say, which is VERY possible as we all know, I'd probably give up $2500 for it which ain't too far off. $2k grand I'd be all over it. **Edit, that is if I was in the market for one. Lovin what I gots already!
