Ok, gets real interesting now. I emailed the parts yard I got it from and the guy gave me the vin#. Under agedstock.com it shows the following specs below. Short bed w/6-7k lb. GVWR?? Huh? If I am correct, MT's were not available on the short bed. In their computer they showed the truck as a "4.0L 4x4 MT Pioneer with 4001-5000lb 'chaise' ". No idea what that last part was supposed to be, that's just what was in his email. Looking at the pics you can clearly see the 2nd and 4th leaves were add-ons, especially the one after the main leaf. It's hard to tell by the pics but on that leaf you can tell it was cut down. The other leaf is not so apparent, i.e. it is a clean cut on the ends so is likely an AAL. VIN Properties Name Value Vehicle Serial-Number 058684 Country of Origin United States of America Manufacturing Plant Toledo, OH Model Name/Code COMA Trim Level PION Body Type Short Bed Engine Description 4.0 Liter MPI GVWR Weight Class 6,001 - 7,000 Lbs. Chassis 4X4 Brake System Hydraulic Number of Doors 2 Number of Cylinder 6 Parts Catalog Model Code J Vehicle Class Pickup Model Year 1988 Make Jeep Model Comanche Model Details Liberty Options Media: AM/FM Radio Tuner Power: Steering Engine: Cylinders 06 Door(s): Two Drive: Four Wheel Drive Power: Brakes Daytime Running Lights

Thanks Horn-Man. To clarify though, one pack provides some lift are more load capacity (due to arch), the other does not? What is the load rating of the other style? I thought MT packs were rated for 1440lbs? Is one style for 2wd and the other for 4wd? I would think so because after I learned (from you) that MT packs give @2.5" of lift, I thought a 2wd would have some serious rake. If there was no rhyme or reason, or year and model as Pete asked, the haystack just tripled in size because I might find some true MT packs but wouldn't know what I was getting. Unlessssssssss..........we can find some pics of each style. In some ways, it won't matter because I want them more for load capacity and the lift was gravy on top. If I found some in the flatter style I can still get me 2"+ of lift w/out too much trouble. Just would have been cool to accomplish it in one shot w/factory parts. :D

I'll get pics up in about 20 mins. MT packs have 5 total springs. Yes, the flat bottom spring is the "overload" spring, then 4 more. Pete's pic is of his 86 MT, it's hard to see the crease between springs 3 & 4 (or 4 & 5 counting the overload). What I was hoping was that someone would tell me or post pics that the extra leaf in the MT packs was under the main leaf and therefore was not tapered and did not have friction pads. But before I even go look in my storage room here at work, I already know what I'm gonna see. A home-grown 4+2, which I bet was an AAL and then someone cut the ends off and put an MJ or XJ main spring under the original main spring. I'll tell you one thing, they are heavy as hell. 4 leaf packs weigh @40-42lbs, these gotta be pushing 60lbs.

Went to work this a.m., logged on to dhl.com and was super excited to see the MT spring packs I found in MI from car-part.com were "out for delivery". Woohoo! Well, I knew there was some risk in ordering these sight-unseen, but these things are so hard to find I said WTF and ordered up. They were listed on car-part as "5 plus helper" which the guy on the phone confirmed. Sooooooo, they've definitely been sitting a long time, pretty rusty, but no big deal as I think they'll clean up ok. I'm expecting to see one of these JC Whitney Husky helper springs added to the top of the stack, but instead it appears to be an add-a-leaf in there. In fact, it appears that maybe there are 2 add-a-leafs in there, or a total of 6, yes 6, springs. I didn't have a lot of time to really look at them closely but here is what I noticed. The 2 springs that looked out of place were the first after the main leaf, and the third one I believe. They were not tapered at the end and did not have the friction pads on them. I'll post up pics tomorrow, but I'd also like to see if anyone has some pics they can post of their factory MT packs, especially if they are off the truck. Oh yeah, one other thing that is making me think I got a 4+2 and not a 5+1, the retainer clips not only didn't have the top bolt in them, but they didn't appear anywhere near tall enough to put a bolt through.

so was your fan clutch not operating before? i.e. not spinning at all? do you have the aux electric fan?
-
was your old one squealing? i think i've narrowed the squealing down on mine to the fan clutch or the idler pulley.

didn't look at the pics, but probably could be had for $250 shipped for 5 http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=556359

lot of action in that section, you may have to go back a few pages, at least 3-5 days worth until you start checking on a daily basis. Post a WTB ad in there, it will get moved to the "WANTED" section in a day or so, but you may get the attention of a seller. worth a shot..........

check the tires & wheels classifieds on jeepforum.com, seems like soft 8s and canyons are always available there. might be some close by....

from reading all of this i gather if i am planning on getting the truck repainted at some point i would actually be wise to do the bedliner and the over the rail (because i plan on doing that) BEFORE my paint job.

I like the stripes w/black wheels, no stripes with chrome/alum wheels. But I think Minibeast hit the nail on the head for me, with the topper, too much blue going on, so the stripes break it up. w/out the topper, i could vote either way, but i think it would still depend on the wheels for me. regardless, looks nice.

Yeah, sorry, should have clarified that you could get it on it's own, w/out any of the other options, but that it was "STD" w/tow pkg. BTW, scored my MT springs today!!!

Wow, good call Tracker, the eternal struggle between the greasers and the soc's (pronounced "so-sh's", or short for "socials" for those of you unknown to this movie classic). Man that movie was loaded with "stars before they were stars". Head "Soc" to Ponyboy (I think) - You can't win. You know that, don't you? It doesn't matter if you whip us, you'll still be where you were before, at the bottom. And we'll still be the lucky ones at the top with all the breaks. It doesn't matter. Greasers will still be Greasers and Socs will still be Socs. It doesn't matter.

that is correct, but "usually" people notice when it's not blowing cold anymore and don't keep running it.

Comancheman, the compressor should come on regardless if there is coolant in the system.

Eagle, thanks, sounds like a plan. I'll let you know how it goes.

DraHHHHCCCula, I mean DraHCir (LOL), 44's were available w/out the MT package, as my MJ can attest too. I believe if you ordered the factory tow pkg, which I fortunately also have, then you got the 44. I also have the factory off-road pkg, which you could not get if you had the MT pkg. Not sure why...........

Tracker, how 'bout "You got the gold mine, I got the shaft". I love that Jerry Reed song.

Anybody had the Mich Ultra Lime Cactus yet? Picked some up over the weekend. Pretty good. Different taste than BLL, but good. I can't remember what other brand I saw that had been "limed", but looks like they're all gonna jump on the bandwagon. But now I DO remember that in addition to another label having a new lime beer, the Mich Ultra also was available in some kind of wine cooler type flavor, like peach or some crap.

Camjeep, I hope I can politely join your thread here as a general a/c topic. Ironically, just today I had a shop check to see if my a/c had ever been converted so I could hopefully get some cool air blowing on some hot days of summer ahead as I work in the yard etc. Now, of course I'm still in peak physical condition and I'm not worried about the heat myself, but if my 7 yr old son is on a trash run with me or something, you know, I just don't want him to get overheated. But I digress. So, no, my system has not been changed over, and to do so ain't cheap. True to form for me, before I go searching the net for simpler (cheaper!) ways to cool my fat @$$, errr, my son off during the dog days of summer, I'd like to ask everyone here on the club for input first and hopefully save myself some time. All thoughts and suggestions are welcome.......
