I know the feeling :brows: Try working rotating swing shift... going to school.. a wife... and 3 jeep projects.. with very lil disposable income. Luckily the wife and I never buy each other gifts... well cause we buy what we want all yr long, but buying other family member gifts gets old quick... its taking my Parts money. I have even asked the wife to stop buying as many groceries so I can have more parts money

Swapping RANCHO heim for a MOOG TRE.....
pingpong replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ryan is 100% right. Hiems are noot meant to side load like that. Thats why just about all of the HD trac bars you see out there use a double shear mount with the movement being up and down. Also look at all the buggies and rock racers.... you don't see them mounting their hiem joints horizontally. -
THe PO of the blue XJ I just bought... made his own tow hook mounts by welding plate and tubing to the top tof the factory brackets, and it seems pretty stout.. I will load test this before I go wheeling with them, and will let you know how it turns out
-
I strongly reccommend taking a Vo-tech welding class if you don't know how to weld.... especially if you go wheeling. Granted this isnt going to teach you to be an expert welder.. but it will teach you the basics.. then you can start building your own parts... Thats how I learned to weld... Then you will be acquiring tools... and making your own junk. I am working on a set of rails for either Casper.. or the Smurf ( blue 2 dr xj).. I have about 25 dollars into the steel (used 2x3x3/16, and for stand offs SCh40 1x5x.25) I might have a grand total of an hour into making them so far.. And maybe an hour to go before they are ready to be painted and mounted.

Around here both 350's and 302 can be had for lil or nothing.. I have come across more np435 and 205 combo's then I care to think about, and it isn't that hard to adapt a NP231 to a np435... Killer first gear ratio
-
I all ready have a few rear d60's  They are easy to find.. but what gear ratios are they? I pay that much for the right gear ratio.. with shipping shouldnt be so bad I will look into the pre runner ads.. As for the grille and stuff... I think I am going to get the 4.3 running, and vehicle driving before I decide what i am going to do. This is a reall y nice rig... and with a paint job would make an excellent street rig for me or the wifey. So I figure I might put this on the road.. then all I have to acquire is another 4.3 (in the classified everyday for lil or nothing) and I all ready got a Turbo350 (it was in the back of the xj)... We shall see... tommorow I hope to get it running before I lay down for my nap... then onto working midnights

Gosh dang LCAs still WILL NOT GO IN
pingpong replied to feerocknok's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well I have done these several times as well. I find it easier to attatch the Lowers first on the axle then the frame.. but just the opposite when doing uppers. Pipe wrench on the axle is by far the easier method.. especiallly if some one else is lining the bolts up for you -
just finished putting the t-case in.. won't be long before I get everything hooked up and driving. :D
-
My local Napa isn't.. adn I ended up having to buy my flanges from MORE.. way overpriced... but when you need something... sometimes it is easier to just pay the bill.
-
I would go with the SBC for the simple fact that you can find remaned t350 for as low as 400, and adapters are real easy to come by. If you want a bullet proof setup... do a 302, np435w np205 case... nearly indestructible. Also fuel injection on either the sbc or the ford might be a lil easier (cheaper) then fuel injecting a AMC motor even though I know of several ppl running the Holley Projection on them.
-
Thats sweet .. now how do I save that so I can use it on other websites

THinking about getting a set of Dual rate King coilovers... Things are just a bit pricey
-
If you all ready have a manual.. it is easier to keep a manual. The aw4 Tranny is a strong tranny. BrettM on this board has made a fancy Lil manual shifter thingy for it. IF I was going to swap trany's over... I would be looking at a stronger tranny then the AX15. Jut my thoughts though

I will post up some pics tommorow when I bring the rig home

Well I went and did it again  I bought another rig :driving: This one is cooler then some of the other junk I have. Its an 89 2 dr XJ with a 4.3, and 700r4 and a 207 t-case :???: The guy who had it went thru a divorce and can't finish it, so his loss is my gain. Did I mention it has a 3" RE lift on it Needless to say this is not going to stay that way. Since it is a FI 4.3 with a fancy dancy painless wiring kit, and it comes with another tranny (turbo 350) This engine, and tranny will be going into Pong, along with a few other goodies :wrench: LIke a Np203, and dana 300 doubler  I am still trying to find a deal on a front 60, and some coil overs... so if you know of any smoking deals let me know ;) Its time for Pong to evolve a lil more
-
I ran this very same setup on my rig. I even used the stock upper and lower control arms with no issues at all. The only thing is you can't use the support bracket that goes from the LCA pocket to the tranny x-member bolts,
-
hey can some one find one thats a truggy :chillin:
-
Thats bad A$$. Speaking of 4.3's I am going to look at a 4.3 equipped XJ this afternoon, that is all set up... I think my truggy might be getting cheby power :D
-
X2 on the diff cover. Blue Torch Fab makes one, and it is pure beef and will take abuse :brows: The companion flange runs around 40 bucks wherever you get it at. JUst make sure to get the spicer flange, and not the Ford one. Also you can convert it to a regular yoke by pulling an 8.8 yoke of a mid 80's F150. Be advised that the flange does help protect the you joint. Also this axle is a pig.. and hangs down low
-
wether or not stock parts survive wheeling is entirely dependent on the type of wheeling and driver you are
-
I know a few ppl who run the MTR's, and they either love them.. or hate them.. there is no in between from what I have found. Personally for the price... TSL's
