I agree buy the bigest 220 air compressor you can afford. Also look for one theat can flow more then 12cfm at 90 PSI. Most of your high end air tools use high pressure air. It is better to buy to big of a tool then wish you had bought a bigger one

I see them now

The almost 4yr MJ project... Make some progress..

I have had some luck getting bracket and tabs custom made over the net, by different companies, but the lead time is ussually a big hassle, and I fully understand what you are talking about. As for the tubing.. I am going to go with the DOM.. I know it is probrably overkill, but I would hate to half to make them twice.. I am all ready on my 4th build on Pong since I got it... I knew I should have went 1 tons when I did the build last yr :brows: -
That would be great :brows: Is your rig SWB or LWB? I would hate to have to pull Jeff's bumper for the first proto type, as his weighs a ton :brows: The new one will weigh much less I hope, especially if they are made out of the tubing. I am going to have to find an abusive driver to test it though  JUst give me a holler when you get ready to head down this way... Heck we have a boat ramp in my subdivision you could use to launch out of :D

I have been following your stuff on PBB when you post. Pretty slick. Who did you but your centers from? Are you going to put rock rings on them also?
-
Told you that was going to happen ;) Before long we will be bobbing the bed and getting busy with the sawzall I got a cool idea on making wrap around sliders that require no cutting... I just need to get you out my way so I can figure it all out... kinda sucks I chopped the back of my rig and got rid of it

88 comanche project (continued)

I would definately over build it.. its real hard to replace suspension mounts when they are ripped of the frame or the axle :brows: This is from a PAP trip on a buddy's XJ. 3 hours later it got fixed by a local shop, but cost him 180 bucks and half a day wheeling. Morale of the story LCA skids and more welds are needed on control arm mounts -

I forgot that you are on the other side.. what ever happened to NAFTA? -
I need to know if it is a SWB or a LWB, if you ever plan on running Long arms, and what kind of tubing and mounting set up you want. PM with you wants, be advised rock rails are still aways off, cause the jig is harder to make, as the frame has different angles at each mounting location.

From my experience with the frames... MJ's have added gussets on the LCA's, and the mount that causes issues is mostly there to belp support the cab floor from what I can see. From the X-memeber forward.. the XJ and MJ are essentilly the same. I can tell you the frames flex just as when jacking behind the LCa's :brows: The main difference is that the MJ widens and the frame rails get taller after the X-member -

HREW is not an option... not for suspension links.. at least in my opinion. Check on PBB there are a lot of quality mounts and tabs out there for the cheap... almost cheaper then if you want to make them yourself...By the time you figure your time, and consumeables.. its cheaper to buy them -
BY using the front rotors off an f-150 I think 78 model yr is a good choice
-
I just got back on site... I was going to say the same thing.. they also have reaaly nice jeep shows as well
-
Thanks for the props Jeff, I hope all is well with your family and will keep you and yours in my prayers. I am sure you are a lot happier with them 31's.. I think I might have some 33's for you... if I ever get done working on some other junk
-
Thats Eddie.. his rig is awesome, and he is just a helluva a good driver... I can't count how many times he has saved a flop or endo. He has a winch run to the front axle to "suck the axle up" to help with the whole COG thing. His WB if I remember right is around 110" which is perfect for Crozet. House rock Obstacle is just sick... some of the crazy guys are driving over that forward, and a few have done it backwards.. talk about insane To learn more about Crozet http://forums.xjsrule.com/viewtopic.php?t=332 To seemore of Eddie's video and saves http://besrk.zippyvideos.com/gallery.z There might even be a couple of me :D

I made up a bunch of mounting bracket blanks Last week, depending on work schedule, and the weather, and when Jeff and I can get together they should be on the market soon... I replied to you PM, I need to know if you want "C" channel or rectangular tubing... If all goes well I can have a few ready for mounting in no time... then it is just a matter of finding a shipper that I can set an account up to that will pick up from the house.

I am doing links front and rear, and the way I wheell I need beef so I can feel your pain. Since I went with the biggest joints out there at the time 2.63's with 1.25x14tpi shanks it means the smalles DOM I can use is 2.25x.375.... can you say my links will cost me over 400 just in steel  -
You are probrably right... never dealt with them much
-
I am going to guess that it is your fule pump. Just cause it is a yr old don't mean a thing
-
That will cause the clunk you hear ppl refer to in the front end. I am pretty sure RE sells joints with bigger bolt holes. Ideally you want the hole pretty tight.

I went with the np203 and d300, using Jeds Machining doubler kit. I chose his over the others cause he was just a nice guy to deal with and price was the same across the board. It also came unwelded so I can clock the setup how I want it. I also went with this setup so I can do front digs :D I would use the stock setup for the first case, and use a custom cable setup for the second using a transmision shifter cable, with a modified automatic shifter. -
Got it done and took it for a short test

NIce... I guess I wil have to revive my build thread and post the progress on my doubler setup. I like the way you are trying to keep the stock look... If you look around on Pirate I am sure you can find a nice cable set-up to use. I thought about going the way you went using the "stock"cases, but mine went a different route, and a lot heavier one at that  -
T o think I thought some of my fab work was hack :teehee: At its current price it is worth it for the tires and the scrap value :smart: To an international freak the engine might be worth something... and he didnt mention what kinda axles or t-case, but I will assume they are of the interntional variety and they will take some abuse

comanche vs cherokee tail lights
pingpong replied to jeepaholic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have yet to find a tailight that fits nicely. Back in the day when I drove Pong on the street, I wheeled him as well. It wasn't uncommon for me to bust a light or two  Afte a while I fabbed my own guards that where labeld Ghetto "fab"oulous guards, but they worked ;) MY latest thoughts would be to look at the lowrider crowd. They make and sell inserts to fill in the tailight section and move your lights. I think this would solve 2 problems at once. First being the lack of availability of tail lights, and the second their location that put them in harms way. Just my :smart: humble observations, on a common problem
