  1. I'm not sure, but you may have to tap provisions for the knock sensor. Other than that, I believe all the Renix stuff will bolt to the HO block.
  2. Try checking the adventure subforums in the Wheeling Trips and Meet and Greet forum.
  3. It needs more than one CPS?
  4. You need to replace the pulley.
  5. Yuck. vBulletin is crap.
  6. An 87 should have a BA 10/5 not an AX-15.
  7. No, internal slaves do not have a sleeve on the bearing retainer. There is an alignment peg on the retainer that it has to be sitting on though, or it'll make a nasty noise when you push in the clutch.
  8. I hope you're not surprised by this. Wikipedia has to be one of the most unreliable information sources on the internet. Most teachers will toss your paper out without even reading it if you cite wikipedia. Every single one of my teachers had a 15 minute speech on the bad things that will happen to you if you use wikipedia for a paper. Citing internet sources is fine as long as they can be credible. Forums will most likely be laughed at by the teacher, though.
  9. 8.8s are narrower too, aren't they?
  10. The transmission the MJ diesels used is close. It's still an AX-5, but the bellhousing and input shaft are different. If you can locate just the bell and input shaft, they'll swap onto an AX-4/5.
  11. Except the existing XJ perches will be in the way of the U-bolts.. won't they?
  12. Well you still need to relocate the spring perches..
  13. :rotf:
  14. 89 was a transition year for the 5 speed behind the 4.0. Early ones had the craptastic BA 10/5, later ones got the AX-15. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11699
  15. MJs don't use shock mounts welded to the axle, the shocks bolt to the spring plates.
  16. Filled up last night for $2.92. Well... didn't fill up.
  17. I seem to remember Darren saying something stupid, and then it disappeared. But then again, I could be thinking of a couple dozen different threads.
  18. You're going to notice quite a bit of difference going from 3.07 gears to 3.55. 3.07s are Junk. The only front axle to come on an XJ/MJ is a Dana 30. Obviously if you change the rear gearing, you have to change the front, so getting a matched pair is good if you get the chance. Correct, XJ rear shafts are useless to MJs. There were different length front shafts depending on Engine/trans combinations, but there's no length difference between an XJ and MJ one. The 4.0/Auto front shaft is going to be about an inch longer than a 4.0/5 speed one.(The pukey and AX-15 used the same shafts, as they're the same length.) I'd say that $3-400 for those axles pictured would be good, since they seem like they come with all the brakes and whatnot.
  19. It'll help with the sign in record...
  20. How big of tires do you want? If you're going any bigger than stock, you'll probably want to go with 4.56. Just for reference; AX-4/3.55 (1.00 x 3.55) = 3.55:1 highest cruise ratio AX-5/4.10 (0.85 x 4.10) = 3.49:1 highest cruise ratio
  21. Yes. But the sensor itself is different between the two, and the teeth on the flywheel that the sensor picks up are different. Renix flywheel needs to stay with a Renix CPS in a Renix controlled vehicle, and HO flywheel needs to stay with a HO CPS in an HO Controlled vehicle.
  22. The rear axle in the picture is a Chrysler 8.25. Being a 96, it is most likely a 27 spline, but there is a chance it's a 29. The number he gave you is definitely not a ratio. The D30 and 8.25 have an exact 4.10 ratio (41 teeth on the ring, 10 on the pinion). I also believe that with one that new, all 2.5s had gone the way of the 5 speed, so if the truck was an automatic, it would have been a 4.0/AW-4, resulting in a 3.55 gear ratio.
  23. The AX-4 and AX-5 are literally identical except for that the AX-5 has the 5th gear parts. Gearing for 1-4 and R are identical. Problem is going to be axle gearing. (assuming you have the 2.5) 2.5/AX-4 combo received 3.55 in the axles. 2.5/AX-5 got 4.10 in the axles. Using the 5th gear with 3.55 axles is pretty much useless. I have a 2.5 with the MPFI system, originally came with an AX-4, but I put in an AX-5. Gutless in 5th unless you're running flat or downhill, doing 70+, and the wind at your back.
  24. Yup, just leave your flywheel where it's at. Pukey and AX-15 used the same fly and clutch. You'll need to figure out something for the clutch hydraulics, 99 AX-15 will be external slave, and uses a plastic clutch line.
  25. If you put the 99 flywheel in your 89, your truck will no longer start. Your current flywheel will be just fine. Pukey used the same flywheel as the AX-15. In 91, the CPS windows were changed for the newer electronics. A Renix WILL NOT START with a HO flywheel and vice versa. The bushing you need to get a newer era AX-15 behind an 87-91 4.0 (yes I know renix is 87-90, but the pilot bearing sizes were not changed until 92) is from a 74 CJ with a 304, not a 4.2.
