  1. How's the ground strap from the back of the block to the firewall?
  2. Where is it? All I see listed is the ring gear... which makes no sense for a manual.
  3. Did you try welding the rod to the crank? That should prevent it from knocking.
  4. Your trans will be the AX-5, not AX-15. Any Jeep 86-90 2.5 manual flywheel will work. I can't seem to find anything new online, you may need to junkyard this part or get one from a forum member. Just make sure you don't get sucked into any of the eBayesque ads that promote something like an 87-02 Jeep 2.5 Flywheel. You MUST get one from an 86-90.

    Stupid prius

I would totally drive one of those. I will not drive a Smart Car.
  6. There isn't any adjustment on the alternator. The belt has to be removed by loosening the adjustment and pivot bolts on the power steering pump.

    Stupid prius

    Could be worse.
  8. CC can't host pictures. You need to upload them somewhere else and link to them using the Img button.
  9. Make sure you get the spokes on the steering wheel and pedals, too.
  10. If the distributor was off a tooth, I don't see how it's possible that it could get up to even 45 mph. IIRC the dizzy has ten teeth. Being one off would put the dist 36 degrees off, and given that the rotating assembly goes twice as fast, that would put it 72 degrees off.... I had one where the timing chain was off a tooth, and that would cause only a 10 degree difference. It barely even idled, and would choke out when you gave it gas... unloaded. Seeing that it's drivable up to that speed, I don't think it's the dizzy.
  11. That's similar to how that red 88 XJ I had acted when I got it. Ended up being the TPS way out of whack.
  12. I missed 343? Damnit Pete.
  13. You might be having trouble finding it because it's not a relay, it's a resistor. Most parts stores should carry them, I think I paid $7 for the last one I got.
  14. :redX:
  15. Those should come with a new throwout bearing.
  16. What spring? Are you external or internal slave?
  17. Carly's having puppies?
  18. The bearing retainer cover gasket could simply be leaking.
  19. Blowby doesn't necessarily mean rings. It's very common for the CCV system to get gummed up and fail, causing blowby.
  20. Had an 88 XJ that acted similar. TPS was out of whack.
  21. No sadly. One of the first things I checked. Even found a 4 speed MJ.... no 4WD though. :fs1: 4wd AX-5s are easy enough to find, and 3.55 is the most common gearing in the D30. :brows:
  22. You gotta pull the unit bearing. Dust shield goes between the bearing and knuckle. Just make sure it's lined up correctly when you put the new one on, or you'll be swearing twice as much when you pull the bearing off for a second time.
  23. The ones with the boot will be a sealed output, and require a different length rear driveshaft. The 231 wasn't used until 87, so you won't have to worry about the front CV flange vs the yoke for a u-joint or different size hole for the speed sender. Anything 87-96ish should work fine.
  24. As long as it was from behind an AX-4 or AX-5, yes. The 231s behind the AW-4 and BA 10/5 were a different length shaft, and the later AW-4s and AX-15s are 23 spline.. and a different length.
  25. Next place I would look is the back of the valve cover.
