  1. Fronts shoud, rears probably won't.
  2. Pretty much any 231 will fit, just make sure it's the same spline input, and the right shifter plate. From what I understand, YJ shifter plates are reversed... so you'd need to swap it. But otherwise any XJ/MJ 231 should work just fine.
  3. On a side note.. the whole 3wd thing ONLY works if you have a front locker. Without a locker in front and the disco disengaged, neither of the front wheels actually have power. If you just powered the front with it disengaged and nothing going to the rear, the outer shafts would sit and do nothing, and the inner shaft would sit and spin twice as fast as the carrier.
  4. If it was free I still couldn't afford the gas to drive it home. :( Considering it doesn't move I don't think that'd be a problem...you said you've got a hauler :P
  5. Exactly what my 91 2.5 did when the fuel pump was on its way out.
  6. Genius! Definitly gonna have to remember that next time I need to pull one off.
  7. Doubtful. This crap's been faked so many times it's hard to take any of it seriously, especially with the vast lackingness of photos.
  8. You should probably pop it off anyway and clean it out since you're doing the extra work. Just make sure you torque the headbolts down in the proper incriments and in the right pattern. It's never a bad idea to get new head bolts. I know some people never remove the head without replacing them. Check closely on the surface where the block and head meet, check for trails the coolant may have left if it was going on for a long time. Yeah just from the numbers you can tell you've got a problem between 3 and 4.
  9. Only thing you'll probably need is a new rear driveshaft, lengths will be different. Oh, and MAKE SURE THE FRONT AND REAR RATIOS ARE THE SAME. If you have to use the XJ rear axle, you will need to be cutting and welding perches.
  10. I'd imagine they'd get in the way and eventually either get torn up by or tear up your longarms.
  11. Bench seats are more fun for makin' babies too. Just a thought.
  12. Pretty much the only way you can get water in the oil is a blown headgasket, or a cracked block/head. Hope for the former. Do a compression test, and it should tell you where the problem is. Don't fret too much if it's the head gasket, they're relatively easy to do if you have a good torque wrench.
  13. I'm sure there's several guys here who have bench seats available... I have 2...
  14. I ran my electric fan in my 88 from the acc spot on the fusebox on a regular toggle switch and never had a problem.
  15. Ok, this XJ still isn't running. One of the last things I haven't replaced is the fuel pressure regulator. I put my pressure tester on it, and the first one it got to 35, still didn't start, second one was 25, no start, then 20, no start and bled off to nothing pretty much as soon as I let off the key, instead of holding it like it did at 35. I checked Partstrain, and the cheapest one on there was like 53 bucks. That seems...a little high. Anyone bought one? Where'd you get it, and how much? I tried to see if I could throw one on from one of my MJs but they're different.
  16. He said 241, not 242
  17. The Ax-5 could probably hold up to a 3.4 as long you don't drive it like Jeepco drove the 3800...
  18. ...what?
  19. I prefer the older look for everything. I"m not really much of a fan of the 97+ look.
  20. how much more effort is it gonna take to hook up vacuum lines? drill and tap, install fitting, and hook up. anyways, you've got a sender and a return line there...you absolutely have to have those. the two vacuum lines are probably a good idea, but not sure if necessary drilling and tapping may not be a good idea since he probably doesn't want metal shavings inside his gas tank.
