The Start Of Something... 86' Comanche Custom
Geonovast replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
So when's the 4wd swap? Looking forward to sinking my wrenches into that thing. :wrench: -
Very nice, you lucky bastard.
-
Might be alright if it had the external slave, shift fork, t-case, front driveshaft, mount, and crossmember with it. Too much for the trans itself.

Peugeot To Ax15 Swap, Parts List?
Geonovast replied to Road Hammer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The issue with the crossmember isn't the mounting holes, it's that the AX-15's crossmember has a drop in the middle to accomodate the transmission's size, and allow correct u-joint angles and to keep it away from the tunnel. You can make up for it with a 3/4" T-case drop, since they're so hard to find. -
No. Well.... mostly no. They're not even the same transmission. 2.5 uses the AX-5, 4.0 uses the BA 10/5 and AX-15. Not the same bolt pattern. It is possible to bolt an AX-15 to a 2.5, but it requires an elusive Dakota bellhousing and some fab work. If you're picking it up for a 4wd swap, nothing we be of use to you. If you currently have the 2.5 with a 5 speed, your rear gearing is going to be 4.10. 4.0/5 speed combo got 3.07, so the front axle would also be useless to you.

We're going to need a great deal more information on exactly what you're doing, and the details of the vehicles. Yes, 1990 is Renix. So is 1988.
-
Why's that? Any parts store should be able to lend you the compressor. Hell, I bought mine new for $15. If you got really fancy you could probably make one, they're pretty basic.
-
It's not bad with a lock plate spring compressor and a good pair of c-clip pliers.
-
Pfft, just put a tensioner pully on it, it'll be fine. No need to waste money on a new chain.

The only MJ with a mechanical fuel pump is an 86 with a 2.8. Money. I think he's got just that config. Worth checking out. Except he specified 2.5 and his signature says 1991..

Peugeot To Ax15 Swap, Parts List?
Geonovast replied to Road Hammer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Finding the trans isn't as bad as finding that stupid crossmember. I imagine that many people will keep the trans around when scrapping a vehicle, but toss the crossmember. -
How's the spark directly from the coil? Might be a good idea to replace the main ground strap from the back of the head to the firewall.

Peugeot To Ax15 Swap, Parts List?

Transmission Slave cylinder AX-15 crossmember As far as a driveshaft change, I'm not sure. 4wd BA 10/5s and AX-15s are the same length, but I'm not sure about the 2wd ones. They appear to be the same, but there could be a subtle difference not noticed in the picture. If you get a 89-91 transmission, the pilot bearing will be the same as the BA 10/5. If you get a 92+ trans, you'll need a pilot bushing from a 74 CJ 304 as the tip of the input shaft changed diameter. Also, the changeover to the AX-15 was done mid 89, so you can find 89s with the BA 10/5. Getting a 4wd transmission is an option, and may even be preferable if you can get a deal on a trans/t-case combo and don't mind paying to have your rear driveshaft cut down. -
Torque Converter And Flex Plate Help?
Geonovast replied to Oly's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Lack of a CEL is irrelevant, as you're going to be using the 91's cluster.- 16 replies

Don, might be easier to give him a picture what it's supposed to look like. -
Torque Converter And Flex Plate Help?
Geonovast replied to Oly's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you're just swapping the motor and trans, you must use the 88's flexplate. I believe it can be easily redrilled for the HO's converter. If you're doing all the wiring and control system, then leave the 91's flexplate in. Do you currently have a 6 cylinder, or do you have a 4?- 16 replies

1992 Jeep Comanche 4.0 No Start/no Spark
Geonovast replied to monkbonk's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What's a CAS? A good place to start with no spark is the CPS. -
Are you sure you're getting the one for the gauge? The sender for the light is just a switch and will peg the gauge. Of course, it's also possible the gauge is shot.

Not Dw, But Needs Fixin
Geonovast replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It is a TRE, but it still prevents side to side movement. If the truck stays put, and the axle were to move either left or right, the actual mounting point of the TRE on the trackbar would have to shift the same amount. The axle does shift left and right, a small amount, whenever it moves up and down because of how that's mounted. So even an up and down shake on the axle from the tires would cause the truck to shake left and right. -
XJs and MJs both came from the factory with a diesel, so it's certainly doable.

You bought a motor without knowing what it was out of? I hope you got a good deal.
