    Model Mj

    These are real http://www.mattracks.com/
  2. And my favorite
  3. Well, those rumble strips are supposed to be insanely loud and annoying, that's kind of why they're there. If I were you, I would just pull the cover and take a look inside. Perhaps hunt down some regular spider gears for it and get rid of the minispool.
  4. Almost done, Jim. Apparently my photochopping skills have gotten a bit rusty and I've forgotten how to do almost everything..
  5. Probably either the shafts were swapped in, or the whole axle was swapped. Do you remember if it was an HP or LP? AFAIK, XJs never came with CV joints other than on the front driveshaft 84-86.
  6. Remember that some ZJs have CV joints.
  7. You really wanna buy the parts that keep the axle attached to the truck from the lowest bidder? A common phrase on this forums has been "Friends don't let friends buy Rusty's." Personally, I'd rather pay a bit more for quality parts, and a 25% discount just for being a CC member is pretty generous. You're willing to pay $335 for Rusty's but not $300 for the better stuff? I'm lost.
  8. I would check the fluid level of the trans and the T-case.
  9. Some junk yards don't know Jack. I once called one and asked how much they wanted for a Dana 30 out of a Jeep Cherokee. They quoted me $600. When I asked why so high, their reply was "because you asked for the Dana axle. The base 4wd front axle you can have for $300." I hope you not-so-nicely set them straight.
  10. Trade you for a fully prettified and fully functional 91 red swb MJ... ;)
  11. The other considerations with the 00-01 are the coil pack ignition and LP Dana 30. If you find one that's a 4.0 and 5 speed though, they'll have the NV3550 trans. Last year for the AX-15 was 99.
  12. You should keep your current bellhousing. You could use the newer external, but the slave will be on the other side, so you'd have to deal with a new clutch line. You cannot swap on the 01 flywheel. As far as the clutch is concerned, they're all the same, but the flywheel needs to stay with the generation of the control system. I do have a concern though, 00-01 2.5s are almost unheard of. This AX-5 is from a 2.5, and not an AX-15 from a 4.0, correct?
  13. IIRC, 84-86 had the hood prop on the left side and folded across the front.
  14. The light mounts further down on the hood. That must be for the upper heater hose, most factory pads I've seen had a major worn spot right there.
  15. I'm not 100%, but I believe it will. If not, the 91 trans should work fine with a Renix TCU. He didn't state if the 88 was an auto or a manual.
  16. A 91 can be used to convert an 88. You won't need to move the engine over, just trans and transfercase.
  17. Jim, you may want to look into new window seals...
  18. It's the other way around. The intake an exhaust share bolts, except the exhaust has two that are just for it. Plus... there's a big pipe (EGR) connecting the two manifolds anyway. But, removing the exhaust manifold without removing the intake would be a lot like trying to change your spark plugs without opening the hood. Removing the intake is nothing. Just remember where everything goes. I've pulled a 4.0 out of an XJ without even disconnecting the fuel line, just got everything else off and moved the whole thing out of the way. The accelerator cable should just pop right off the throttle body, or you can unbolt the whole thing from the manifold.
  19. I think I'm gonna cry, Brett.

    3D Printing

I want one for the sole purpose of being able to make my own K'nex/Lego pieces...
  21. The 29 spline 8.25 is a pretty beefy axle. You'll do fine with it, given an immediate choice between the 2, I'd only jump on the D44 if it was a hell of a deal. I also like the beefy look of the 8.25. Even the 27 spline can be a great deal if you plan on having the carrier out at some point, because the 27 spline and 29 spline versions are the same housing. I've purchased two 29 spline 3.55 8.25s. One was $150 from Pete, the other was $25 off of CL because it had a broken shock stud. Oh no.
  22. I was able to get them out with a ball joint press and a short piece of pipe.
  23. The track bar can easily be replaced with it on the ground, as well as the LCAs as long as you do one at a time. I wouldn't recommend ramps as you may want to pop the wheels off to do the LCAs (for more room)
  24. I doubt you could swap the 207's input into the 231, they don't have the same reduction ratio.
