HI-CNTRD - 1990 XJ Project

I have horrible memory and that is why I did the Comanche build up page. I can look back and see most of the things I did to it. I bring this up because I was going through my backup drive and found pictures of things I had done to the Cherokee. I really wish I had started this build up way before this. I forgot so much. One thing was that the dash wasn’t in the condition it is in right now. Apparently the dash was all cracked up. I must have went to the pick n pull for a new one because I have pictures of it being replaced . So, this is going to be a kind of a Benjamin Buttons build page. I will post up what I find and try to figure out how it all went down, so I won’t forget again -

Just made the most important upgrade to this Jeep. A few hints to what it is . It has side bolstering, cup holders, a 3 point harness, and comfortably seats one! Is that enough hints lol. -

Lol. Unfortunately they do not dim. Did not see the oil pressure gauge. I just know it is a lot higher over idle. But low is better right -

It’s decorative as I can see no benefits other than easy access to winch mounting bolts. Glad you like it -

Geeze, it has been so long ago that I first saw this bumper at Jeeptober festival in Florida. I had planned for this bumper to go on my maroon 86 MJ, but I sold the Jeep during my downsizing campaign. I am still in love with this bumper and am glad I have a Jeep to put it on. I got the bumper from a guy in Louisville Kentucky. He is James with RLC Welding and Fabrication. I got this bumper so long ago that I hope he still is in business. The phone number is/was (502) 403-6832. Had it in storage for at least 5 years and finally painted it semigloss black. Then slapped it on the Cherokee with some Delta fog lights and a winch. Some pictures of the amazing bumper-> I think you can tell that I am a big fan of this bumper -

When I say night and day improvement, I am not exaggerating! I purchased the interior LED kit for the XJ ,with the overhead console, from One Way Light on Amazon. I paid $50 for the kit and It came with a lot more replacements than I was expecting . As you can see from the pictures it is an incredibly noticeable improvement! The LED’s are all clearly marked and easy to install. Here are the pictures of what I have installed so far. Before -> And after -> Oh Yeah -

Well I had a bad fuel pump and a leaking return line. Not happy about the leaking fuel line as I drive my son around in the Jeep. I paid another mechanic to go through and make sure everything was safe. Maybe it something new but so thankful I brought it to this new guy! Jeep does run better now and safe which is the most important -

Oh boy . . . on way to work and the Cherokee just died without warning. In center of turn lane and acted like running out of gas?? After a few attempts to get it to start, and it sounded like it was going to, I gave up and called AAA. They brought 5 gallons of gas and still wouldn’t start - dayeem. After I just got the interior all put back together this happens. Had it towed to my mechanic and just waiting to see what is wrong. How great, a buddy just happened to see me and take an incriminating picture -> -

The swing-out tire carrier on my JCR Vanguard bumper is giving me trouble. When I go to shut it, the tire carrier hits the left side (by the latch) and bounces up into the locked position . I called JCR and they said I should have another person lift up on the carrier while I torque down the spindle but to 65 ft pounds. If that does not fix the problem there could have been a misalignment during the manufacturing process. They said they would take care of it if the torquing of the nut does not help. That’s good to know, but I still will have a scratched up bumper-> I have not gotten around to trying to fix it yet – the damage has already been done. -
Nice 👍🏻

Soon after picking up the XJ I decided that I just had to replace that dented chrome bumper asap! It was an eyesore, and chrome . I asked the owner about the dented bumper and he proceeded to fill me in on what went down. He admitted that he had been in a fight with his old lady and left her behind at the Rebar lounge. He ended up swerving to miss a “dog” and found himself going through a barb wire fence backwards. He left the Jeep in the pasture for the night. When he returned the next afternoon, he found the owner of the property trying repair the damage he caused to the barbwire and fence post that was snapped off a few inches from the ground. The farmer said the post dented the panel behind the drivers side door, but he had an idea on the reason for the dented bumper. The man said he saw his bull lifting up the end of the Jeep by the bumper! He must have seen his reflection in the chrome and thought it was another bull moving in on his turf. Angry bulls; just another reason for avoiding chrome . The dented bumper-> I am really surprised that the bull did not damage anything else on the Jeep. Now, I watch a lot of YouTube videos and find quite a few ideas for the Jeep. I watched a video from Bleepin Jeep, and the host Matt was putting the Vanguard rear bumper and Adventure tire carrier on his XJ. I really liked how many features the bumper offered and it was nice looking. Got the maxed out package and maxed out my credit card! They love their stuff $$$, but it is really well thought out and built. I first had to get my rear bumper off the Jeep. I started by attempting to pull the bumper out by the unbolting it. It was not going to happen. Everything was rusted in and too difficult to remove with the limited room. I just took the sawsall to the brackets - they weren’t going to be used anyways - and it saved a lot of time removing it -> After I had it free, I went to work on the bolts and what was left of the brackets. What a . I snapped off 3 of the 8 bolts. I figured I could just use my snap on drill kit to back the broken bolts out. Ended up breaking two of my bits and really screwing it all up -> I managed to drill out the bolts for two of them, but the one with the broken bit in it was a lost cause. After removing the brackets I Got my little buddy to help me wash the area up before we put on the new bumper -> Ah yes, after getting her all bolted up (not even close to how easy it looked in the video) the bumper with the LED KC lights -> Then the boy and I put on the tire carrier and accessories-> I am really a fan of the JCR Off-road products, even if this one was a REAL challenge to get on. Best part of this two day ordeal was having my son say “ IT Has A Tire On The Back Now!!” His smile made it all worth while TBC -
Good point. I had it come in for a split second then back to one speaker. I am going to clean up all the connections on the amp and see what that does.
-
I am starting to believe that there is something wrong with the amp itself. I am going to try out another amp that my buddy has and see what happens with the system then. I will report back lol
-
I will try that tonight
-
it was mislabeled. Put my volt meter on the remote wire and it only came on when tuner was selected 🤬. The other power antenna wire was activated on all options. I still have issues though. I have the rca cables on the rear at both ends but I only have one speaker working?? Technically 2 if you include the overhead speaker paired up with it. Not sure what is going on now. It does sound pretty darn good though. I can only imagine how it will be if I get the other four working. I appreciate everyone’s help on this.
-
I will check that but it was labeled “amp rem”. Could be mislabeled
-
Oh, if I didn’t mention it the other amp did the same thing.
