  1. Well what I need is either a job, or some of my stuff to freakin' sell lol. Anyway, I can weld very well, and I can fabricate to a certain degree, but I've never gotten into fiberglass, sanding, or painting. It all looks fairly easy, I just need to DO it. What's holding you back? Need a better job, or better spending habits?
  2. I don't consider a work truck or hauler a play toy. Your setup would be sweet to do. But that's what we got our J10 for now. There's so many different setups I wanna do with a Comanche!! Bad wording. I don't consider a work truck or hauler a play toy either. What I meant was: No, I wouldn't use a 3.3 for an offroader. In an MJ anyway. What I would do with it is...etc,etc,etc. And yeah, I'd LOVE a '62-'70 Gladiator. I'd put a diesel in it as well.
  3. Neither 2 wheel drive nor 4 wheel drive makes any difference at all in the ability of the truck to tow anything according to the factory. A properly equipped 4x4 has the same max tow rating as a properly equipped 4x2. Check out your factory manual and you will see the same max tow weights. Well of course yes I understand that. I was just wondering if it would help pull...better-er. And potentially stop better when you downshift. You know, 4 tires gearing down instead of two. Same for speeding up. No reference to tow rating.
  4. I think a 3.3 would be only ok for a play toy. Slightly front-end heavy. What I'd like to do with an MJ is: Long-bed metric ton, D44s front and rear, Cummins 3.3. Bigger tires but not much lift. I'd like it for a 'work truck'. Hauler if you will. I have a short box MJ and don't wheel it, in fact it would break my heart to damage that body, so, I'd rather have a more useful MJ, and a diesel with good axles would fit my bill.
  5. A 4bt is honestly too much engine for a truck that's not much over a ton and a half in weight. You have to reinforce the 'frame' in the engine bay, and then you have the rest of the cab's unibody frame to worry about, put significant lift on just so the engine might fit, and you may or may not have to modify the oil pan. After all that you have the rest of the drivetrain to replace. If you got it done your front end will be stupidly heavier than the rest of the truck, making offroading not fun (MJs rear ends are very light to begin with and that engine will only exacerbate that issue). Cummins 3.3s on the other hand are not a lot heavier than the I6, don't necessarily have to beef up the frame, and their torquey power will more than thrill you I'm sure. Plus you can use the rest of the drivetrain without worrying too much about tearing it apart. Though I personally would probably upgrade my axles.
  6. I almost never like any kind of spoke wheels. If I had to choose spokers they'd be the turbines. Personally I prefer something like this: http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/286-62.jpg and I know there were some Jeep wheels that were similar.
  7. Yeah I kinda want to do this as well. I have 3 or so vehicles I've bought for super low, fixed, and am now trying to sell. Problem is, the bodies aren't nice, so even though they're solid vehicles no one wants them. I need to learn bodywork :wall:
  8. Well hell, he's right! Sell that 9-5 bed and you'll probably get a good amount of your investment back, and you already have the real bed. Nice.
  9. I think I need to more than just remix it though. Little granules have formed that mixing just won't disintegrate. I need to puree it. I didn't even think about calling the manufacturer. Lol, thanks.
  10. I don't know if this goes in Tech, or Pub, so relocate if necessary and apologies. My gallon just of RustX froze. Or rather, my neighbor gave me a free gallon of it and he had let if freeze. Anyone with chemical experience: can I put it in a blender and make it good again? (there was an inch of gooey, grainy stuff in the bottom of the jug. Not easy to break up. But I figure a blender could smooth it all out again. What I don't know, is did freezing completely ruin the ingredients, or just solidify them a bit? My MJ is terribly rust covered.
  11. Being able to do that in water would be :rock on: :rock on: :rock on:
  12. I'm not an expert, but my first thoughts are IAC and TPS. I just replaced my roommate's '93 4.3 Chevy's TPS and now he doesn't have to start it with his foot in the pedal. Just a thought. Other people will know more I'm sure.
  13. I don't like Fords. But that's coooooool.
  14. Wow I get edumacated every day. I always thought that everything before OBD2 was considered OBD1. I feel dumb. So yeah, good luck OP, lol.
  15. I did buy Purolator, just the wrong one. I'll have to go to Carquest for 'em, they're the only ones in town I like. A discount on everything except liquids.
  16. Idk, the only thing I can think of is that your injectors are wonky. Except for one more thing: when you replaced all your electrical parts did you have the battery unplugged? If so, when you went to start it did you let the key sit in the on position for atleast 30 seconds before starting? I know with other same-era OBD1 vehicles whenever you change a sensor you need to do the key thing.
  17. My bad, I mixed up 'plugs' and 'wires' in your original post.
  18. Pull the dent and leave the holes.
  19. Old thread, but I wish I had read it before going and getting two WRONG oil filters. Went to Walmart and was like, "4.0s are all the same block; why would there be any difference between HO and Renix..." . No wonder it was being :wall:
  20. I was mostly curious because when I put together my 2.5l MJ and converted it to 4x4, rather than lengthen the too-short XJ shaft, I just had the larger 2x4 shaft cut down.
  21. Little bit of love with some chemicals, and it'll look like new.
  22. So why is it that 2wd rear driveshafts are like 5 or 6 inches in diameter and the 4x4s are like 2 1/2? Are they physically stronger? Weaker? Just curious.
  23. My vote even though you've already discarded it as a culprit, is plug wires. It's surprising how degenerated good wires can be on the inside even when they look fly on the outside. Kinda like some women... *cough... Use the set from your brothers for a test drive perhaps.
  24. Ok thanks. Guess I'll just run it for a long time and watch the coolant level, make sure it's not dropping.
  25. I dig that look a lot. I just wish the headlights were round. Round headlights are so much classier.
