Soa Front Leaf Conversion, 8"+ Lift

For frenching into the frame he's talking about the rear. The rear is regular frame. Cab forward is unibody. -
Best Way To Replace Floor Pans
Oddmodman replied to ComancheJon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Bah. Make your stuff man. Easy and cheap. I made a template with cardboard and duct tape and used sheet metal from old washer/dryers, cut out with a cutting wheel, put in the new plate, form-fitted with a hammer, and welded in with a tiny 110 welder. Used free, light steel frames from craigslist to make the new top rails. Easy, peasy, and cheapy. Of course then I sprayed it with a couple coats of undercoat on top of 3 coats of primer. That was the most expensive part of my floor remake lol. -
Problem Reassembling Np231
Oddmodman replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Huh. I tried with the wire wheel a little tiny bit and slipped once...big, deep scratches. So no more of that for me. Maybe I'll try your guys' method. I tried the brake clean with a rag before you mentioned it, but the rag soaked it up so fast it didn't work very well. It worked much better when I let the cleaner sit for a few seconds then scratch with my razor or fingernails, then cleaned it up with the rag. Anyway, I did figure it out, and it's back together for the most part. Still have to put the tower on. Thanks for the input!- 16 replies

Problem Reassembling Np231

That's okay for aluminum? Even stainless? (I thought stainless was even harder than regular steel)?- 16 replies

Problem Reassembling Np231
Oddmodman replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Figured it out. So stupid. Resigned myself to cracking the case open after I had looked at the inside of my bad case. Turns out in my good case (the one I'm working on), I had put the lube pump on the inside of the smaller case half. It's supposed to go on the outside, in between the outer side of the smaller case half and the output tower!! So dumb. Btw, anyone have any methods of getting the old silicone off? I've been using a scraping razor, but it's only so effective, and I know not to use a steel wire wheel, though it's SO tempting. What do you guys use?- 16 replies

Problem Reassembling Np231
Oddmodman replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't know. I inspected about 5 times before I put the two case halves together. I don't think so. I'll mess with it some more today. If I can't get it, I'll be forced to crack it again...- 16 replies

Problem Reassembling Np231
Oddmodman replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Tcase is '87, and input shaft is '90. I don't think it's the input that's the problem though. That went in without a problem. It's the main shaft that I need to move.- 16 replies

Problem Reassembling Np231
Oddmodman replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
PS, the linkage is adjustable, it works, but adjusting it doesn't allow the shaft to budge either. Just something I forgot to mention.- 16 replies

I'm putting my np231 together after the input upgrade, and it just won't quite fit. I had everything together except the output tower (whatever it's called), and realized that last c-clip snap ring thing wouldn't go on! So after cursing I tried to pull the shaft out a bit because all I needed was about 3/16 more till the clip's little valley was exposed. Gave it lots of love, but nothing will budge it. Wondering if I should put the ATF in, it that'll lubricate all the gears enough to budge it. I REALLY don't want to take it all apart. Took me all of today just to clean and reassemble. Anyone ever have this issue before?

AFAIK it depends on the year of said 242. Unfortunately I don't know the years myself, but I made a topic similar to this at one point. I was told that if the 242's input is of medium length (the 231's is short), it should slide right in and bolt up even though the 231's is shorter. Someone needs to confirm.

Well, guess he can do it without pics. Lol.

Here in Alaska, you absolutely have to send the PO a letter. If they don't respond or respond saying you can have it, you can have it. If the VIN isn't in the system at all you can go the bond route, or you can post an ad in the paper and after a month or so you can have the Newspaper sign an affidavit stating you tried to advertise it to the PO, and you can take that affidavit to the DMV, which they can turn into a title.

I'd really like to do a snow camo job. White, grey, black, and red version.

Dude, perhaps we are! The oldest vehicle I have is a '65 Volvo P1800 Coupe, and I'm only 22, but I love those older cars! Cars then were class! I like class, like those older vehicles over newer, problematic, automatic, garish chrome-rimmed swagger cars. I love the idea of those old straight eight engines, but at the same time I wouldn't be against buying a shell of one, putting a 4bt or 3.3bt in it, and possibly doing a low profile 4x4 conversion for the winter here. Plus I like 4-doors. Especially when the back two doors are suicide doors :D. Forty bucks?!?! I'm considering a '51 Buick Special 8 here. 500 miles on a newly rebuilt engine, all trim, new tires, nearly solid body, for 2500 OBO. I just don't like the grill much... It's a little past my preferred golden age of cars.

Tell me about it Sam. I have 3 motorcycles, a geo storm, a volvo p1800, a samurai, and 2 MJs that need fixing. But for 500 I'd add this to the to-do list. The guy still hasn't gotten back to me though. Father-in-law selling for out of state son-in-law BS. Jimoshel, I like the 30s and 40s for cars. '39 Buick convertible straight eight would be super cool. Stuff like that. Packard. Old Pontiac. Coooooool.

Adjustable Aluminum Wheel Lug Holes
Oddmodman replied to Oddmodman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well the way I look at it, I paid too much at 150, but these should be just fine with the right hardware, otherwise it probably wouldn't have been marketed in the first place.- 14 replies

Adjustable Aluminum Wheel Lug Holes

Nope. I'll take a pic when I can. My camera sucks though. If I were to use them, I'd need those insert type things set for a jeep width?- 14 replies

Sounds like a plan.

Well, I know it's between 4 and 500 lbs lighter than the 4bt. The 4 is about 1200 lbs and the 3.3 is supposedly only a bit heavier than our 4.0s. I know I saw a build thread about a guy who put one in an MJ. Also know that as an industrial engine it's supposed to be nigh indestructible and moddable, consequently.

Hah, thanks for keeping an eye out. Unfortunately, due to extravagant shipping to AK, I'd pay out about 25 bucks for that thing total. And there are no such things as pick-n-pulls here. Junkyards are few and expensive. But thanks!

Mmm, I'm cheap. I'll probably just put a dab of similar color paint on to disguise it.
