Well I don't have pics, but I bought one for 500 with a blown 1.3. Two rust holes where the interior meets the wheel wells. Bought a 16v Sidekick for 150 bucks for its engine. Already bought the mating kit, the only thing left before I start in on it is wiring. It'd cost me 300 to have someone do it, but I'd really like to do it myself, get the experience.
  2. Cool, thanks for the info. I've actually done the shaft swap from the 21 to 23 spl, so I have experience with it. Also, I know someone who can shorten it for me. I think I'll buy it. It's only 50 bucks, which is a steal. Any idea about the bell bolts? I figure the guy will only charge me a few clams for em so I might as well just take them.
  3. Meaning it won't work I'm assuming? Know how much a replacement shaft that will fit would cost ballpark?
  4. Also, since I'm assuming all 4.0 I6s from every year have the same bolting points for the tranny bell, anyone know if I can take the bell-to-engine bolts from this '95 auto bell and use them for my '90 ax15?
  5. Title says it all. Will an NP242 that came out of a '95 cherokee 4.0 auto(blech) mate to my '90 4.0 and ax15, and if so will it need mods? Foremost in my mind, anybody know if the input shaft won't mate into the '90 ax15?
  6. Alright, here's my situation: I have an '87 4.0 comanche that I bought, and it had a jammed up pukegoat in it. Fortunately, it had an ax-15 lying in the back of the bed. All I know about that one is that it's a pre-94 model. When I went to trade out the trannies (I've already modified the crossmember), I found that I only had 1 bolt holding the tranny onto the engine after I originally took the crossmember off. So, what I need are the dimensions of each of the bell-to-engine bolts (including bell to dust cover bolts), ie length, head sizes, and thread types so I can have my local Bolts and Fasteners shop fab some for me. I have no idea if anyone out in the nethers can tell me this info, but here's to hoping. Also, can anyone tell me if I need a different pilot bearing for the ax-15 than the one that came with the BA10?
  7. I'm looking for an ax15 shifter, and only the shifter, though it has to include the 4-bolt mounting plate. If anyone's willing to bother with shipping to me, let me know the price and shipping price in a PM. Thank you much.
  8. Never mind. Apparently year doesn't matter, only application; xj/mj and yj/tj.
  9. Anybody know if a 94-99 ax-15 shifter will work in a pre-94 ax-15?
  10. All I have to comment: *Palmface*
  11. Hope I'm not doing anything taboo here by bringing up a 4x4 that isn't a jeep. I was hoping that someone on CC knows samurai's and their bigger brothers, and if they might know of a web site that is reminiscent of CC that could help me out similarly with my Suzukis. Just need some help. Thx
  12. What's the benefit of using Nitrogen?
  13. Wow, that would be HILARIOUS!! And aggravating... Anyway, ok, so why only 87 through 89? Can't use post 89 231s?
  14. Of course, that stupid spline barrier. Well, since I know the pugeot is bad, I guess I'll pass. Too bad it wasn't a 231 or 242 for sale :(
  15. No, basically, I have two comanches, and one 231 transfer case that I can fab/throw together between the two, and a guy on craigslist here is selling the 207 from an '85 4.0 cherokee with front driveshaft, for 60 bucks. So I figured if it would work, it's a hell of alot cheaper than finding a 231. If anybody knows, how come it won't mate up to an AX15? Thx
  16. Hey guys, I was wondering if I could take a 1985 AM207 off an automatic cherokee, and put in on either a 1990 ax-15 (and if possible, is it worth it), or on a 1987 pukey. Also, if it could be done, and is worth it (meaning it's not a POS), would I have to change DS length? Thx guys. Oh, PS, how do you tell what year a transmission is? Thx
  17. I'm going to go for it. Nothing to lose really at this point. Besides, my dad, the real mechanic, will be helping me. Thx all. Wish me luck!
  18. The input shaft is the connecting shaft between the transmission and t-case?
  19. Hi guys, so here's the deal. I have a 1990 AX15 with a bad NP231 (chain broke, cracked the case, etc). I also have a 1987 BA10 with a good NP231, but the tranny itself is bad. So, what does it take to put the good NP231 from the French POS onto the good AX15?
  20. Alright, this is driving me NUTS!! I've come across the term 'C/T' tire, and have no idea what it stands for. Google doesn't help. What kind of tread is this?
  21. Which part are you not happy about?
  22. Those Green Diamonds look pretty fantastic. I'll have to check in to them.
  23. Hi guys, I live in Alaska, just a little north of Anchorage. My question for you all is; does anyone know a good brand and size of tire to use in snow, keep in mind I'm looking for skinny, aggressive tires to use, preferably good in deep snow, and preferably studded. I run a paper route in Eagle River, and a couple times per winter it likes to snow 2+ feet of snow in a few hours. My truck has a 4.0 5spd, and will have a 3in lift by winter. I know some of you are super fans of skinny tires, so I thought you might have a clue.
  24. Okay, thx for all the info guys. I'll try realigning that cup deal. Well the reason I was asking about swapping to an ax5 is because they kid I bought it from had an extra tranny in the back, which I believed to be the ax5. But if it won't bolt up anyway... nvm. Let me know if you get that manual up JeepNut. Is the AX-15 physically larger/beefier looking than the AX5? Thanks.
  25. Bunch of transmission questions here. To start with, for anyone that might be able to help me, PLEASE chime in, I desperately need help. I picked up an MJ, an '87 4.0 that has a pugeot BA10/5 in it that was supposedly "seized". This was thought to be the case because the shifter won't move into ANY gear. The only play the stick has is what it gets in neutral. However, by turning the input shaft, I proved that it was indeed NOT seized, because when I turned the shaft, the front axle yoke(?) turned as well. So if anyone has any idea why this transmission isn't seized, but isn't able to shift, I would  at your feet and kiss your toeses. Here's the only info I know about the transmission: it was obvious that someone tore into it before, and I'm wondering if there's something that the assembler missed :hmm: . Is there a clip that commonly breaks, a gear that's easy to mix up with another that won't allow it to shift, anything like that that anyone knows about :dunno: Also, other, more general questions: Who is the manufacturer of the AX transmissions? Also, I hear the pugeot tranny is crap, and the AX-15 is the best you can get. But I don't hear anything about the AX5. How does the AX5 measure up to the other two in quality? Oh, and If I were to (theoretically) go from a pugeot to the AX5, what has to be changed, and do I need to shorten/lengthen the rear driveshaft? Thank you very much for reading my post. It is getting very close to too cold outside to :wrench: on things here in Alaska, and I need things running before snow. Any help I can get is most welcome.
