Need help finding replacement clips

I need to replace the clips that hold the trim above the driver's side door. They're smaller than anything I have on hand. Does anyone know how to find these?

I would take it into a place that sells supplies for body shops. They should have an AuVeCo catalog and will help you match it up to something.

Seems like the crown ones are out of stock everywhere. Ive been trying to buy some of these and after waiting a month from quadratech (which now shows "out of stock") the lady there told me crown is currently looking for a new supplier.

 

@jodawill please let us know if you manage to get ahold of these.

I have some of the Crown ones and they are not as rigid as the original and bend easily. Hopefully their new supplier makes a better product.

Let me know how it goes. It does look wrong in the pictures because the original is flat at the base of the stem as it slides on in only one orientation, but I see that those clips aren't as thick as they are wide, so I suppose it's possible that they will fit on there.

 

These clips have probably been broken for decades (ever since my grandpa replaced the headliner, whenever that was), so I guess there's no rush, other than the fact it's really annoying me. Hopefully the white ones come back in stock eventually.

I went ahead and ordered the ones from eBay. It's a small enough money, I'm willing to take the risk if they don't work out. Hopefully they do. I spent a lot of time looking into those clips, and it doesn't seem like they're generally available, so I'll take whatever I can get.

Chrysler has a modern part number for that clip. I remember posting it somewhere when someone was also looking for the same clip.

I bought the available ones that are larger and drilled out the holes that the clips insert into.

I just saw this post. These could be the same that Jeep used in the hatch of an XJ. The photo is one of the few that didn't break.

 

 

@eaglescout526 and I had corresponded about this a couple years ago and here's what we found, and what I did.

 

At that time we thought the original part number was 3420 with Chrysler/MOPAR equivalent of 6504995AA. Both are made of unobtanium at this point. If I did find them, they were prohibitively expensive.

The fastener part appeared to be close enough to the right size. The head/cap diameter was too big, but I put these in a drill and used sandpaper to grind them smaller. Then I used a small file to modify the 'neck' so that they were narrower in one axis. A pain in the rear, but $6 for 100 versus a lot more than that for one of the Mopar 6504995AA. With some modification I got them to work. I can't find any photos of the final product, sorry.

What was the problem? Head doesn’t fit, too small, not small enough for the hole?

The head is the right size. They don't have the flat section at the top of the stem, but you can insert them by flattening it out because it's hollow. The stem won't stay in the hole because it's too soft and narrow.

I don't think those are the same because they don't appear to be hollow. The ones from eBay are almost as thin as paper and only molded on one side of the stem. You can flatten it out completely.

Mine looked nothing like the eBay ones. Besides being black, they looked exactly like the original clips. Already installed in the Jeep with no issue. However, I will not take it apart in fear of breaking the clips lol

Exactly as the originals were made. Flat spot and all. Nothing like the eBay ones listed earlier in the link on this thread.

Thanks! I just ordered some. Expensive after shipping, but I'll be happy if they work. The originals have been broken for many, many years.
