Drahcir495 Posted January 2 Share Posted January 2 Help me decide if I should keep the XJ? I no longer have someone beating me up to sell it. If I keep it I’ll have 3 jeeps and the explorer. I have everything I wanted for the MJ but I would still need a paint job. Selling the Cherokee would (hopefully) give me the cash I need to finish both the Scrambler and the MJ. I don’t know. The XJ also was breaking down and I dreaded have my wife finding out about it and then telling me to get rid of it. I can’t decide on what to do?? neohic Posted January 2 Share Posted January 2 I used to have the mentality that I had to keep all of my vehicles. The reality is that you can only drive one at a time, and the more you have the less that they all get driven. Worst thing you can do to a vehicle is let it sit. More vehicles equals more sitting. eaglescout526 Posted January 3 Share Posted January 3 I have the same predicament as you. But I rotate between my daily’s. And I rotate based on gas and the last time it was driven. Right now it’s the XJ. When it gets low on gas, I’ll go to the eagle, when it gets low I’ll go back to the MJ. It’s not bad to have some back ups in the event one needs to go down for maintenance or for a lengthy mod where you want to take your time on. Just 2 cents, not saying what decision you should make. hgeranium Posted January 3 Share Posted January 3 I'm with Eagle. I think it's not inherently a bad thing to have 3-4 vehicles to cycle around, especially if they're all projects lol. Having two cars has saved my @$$ on many occasions. Seller's remorse is real, especially in the Jeep world. I hear it all too often. If you can feasibly juggle all of your vehicles and not have it be too stressful, then I say go for it and keep it. GonzoTheGreat Posted January 3 Share Posted January 3 If you could sell the xj to get two other vehicles on the road, I think that sounds a lot better than sitting on three half-finished jeeps indefinitely, and driving an explorer. 75sv1 Posted January 5 Share Posted January 5 I think the MJ and Scrambler running is worth mor than the XJ. XJs are 'easily' found for sale. My only slant to keep it, would be if it is rust free. ThatJeepGuy Posted January 5 Share Posted January 5 How rusty overall is this XJ and also what year is it? A rusty and in need of mechanical repair XJ is not hard to come by basically at all. If your tickled more soo by the 96 and older xjs well then there's an argument for just how hard it could potentially be to replace it. The 97+ xjs however are still rather easy to come by though. There's a bit of blanket decisions being handed out here on its behalf to just be done with it... I'd say if the setup is ideal to what youd like out of the XJ, color, options, drivetrain etc then prolly hang onto it but if its the latter then lean away from it. I do though agree with the secondary, third-ary* vehicles in the line-up. I'm currently a 14 Caprice in the summer, 87 MJ in the fall/winter for hunting and 08 JK for winter and summer family adventure/spare vehicle duties. This year I plan to have a 4th in the lineup as an 04 gmc 2500. Registration costs are there for sure but ive been looking at it as reducing the overall mileage across each of them. I can wear a single vehicle out in mileage in a few years or I can spread that wear and tear across mutliple vehicles and gradually improve each one over time. Now that is done, I plan on bringing it home. Not rust free and the floors are rusty. Everything is done except the engine. I have so much money into it, I will never recoup it. If I did sell it, as it was mentioned, I could get the MJ and Scrambler on the road. I should know better with juggling 4 jeeps projects. I will bring it home and mull it over. I would always dread breaking down in the XJ. She would always have something to say about it. You will have to “get rid of it.” Now that I’m out of that situation I have only me to answer. All I know is that selling it is a lot easier with it not being here with me driving it. Thanks again guys.
