JIMMYRIG Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 I've heard some mixed reviews on the ACC carpet. I got rockauto vinyl flooring now and it fits terribly. Has anyone ever tried pulling carpet out of a Cherokee and cutting it at the center? My first priority is fit and second is sound deadening. Would love to hear peoples input and recommendations. Thanks
robfg67 Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 Right now, on eBay, there are a red, blue, and tan factory carpets available.
89 MJ Posted November 2, 2025 Posted November 2, 2025 ACC carpet from rock auto is the way to go. Their carpet is good, their vinyl is not. The vinyl flooring on rock auto is also ACC, but fits terribly.
ratrapp Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 i got the vinyl from acc off rock auto and it point blank doesnt fit.i got the acc carpet from rock auto and was very disappointed in it.i got so frustrated with it i ended cutting slits all through it and alot of carpet glue just so it would have some form of carpet in it,sad thing is i put acc carpet in my foxbody and it fits very nice.
ghetdjc320 Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 New carpet is never fun and takes a lot of time to get right. The ACC carpet without mass backing is the way to go.
Pete M Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 makes your life way harder. it stiffens everything up and makes it super challenging to get it to lay flat against the steel.
JIMMYRIG Posted November 4, 2025 Author Posted November 4, 2025 Ah ok. The first thing I ever did when my grandfather gave me the jeep was rip the carpet out along with the foam insulation as rats had been inhabiting the cab. The floor pan is completely bare under the vinyl now. Is a layer of dynamat sufficient for sound deadening or is there anything else I can add in addition to make it even quieter?
JIMMYRIG Posted November 4, 2025 Author Posted November 4, 2025 And this begs the question, On 11/2/2025 at 5:21 PM, ratrapp said: i got the vinyl from acc off rock auto and it point blank doesnt fit.i got the acc carpet from rock auto and was very disappointed in it.i got so frustrated with it i ended cutting slits all through it and alot of carpet glue just so it would have some form of carpet in it,sad thing is i put acc carpet in my foxbody and it fits very nice. Maybe ratrapp got mass backing and 89 MJ did not?

There's several options, including Dynamat knockoffs. There's several spray in options too. You can also get a roll of foam padding and cut it to fit. Just don't attach it to the carpet first.
89 MJ Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 Dynamat is expensive, but it’s good stuff. My Comanche is super quiet going down the road.
ghetdjc320 Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 Add dynapad on top of the dynamat if you want it quieter
JIMMYRIG Posted November 4, 2025 Author Posted November 4, 2025 Ok thanks. Any experience with dynamat vs killmat vs amazon basics sound deadening?
ratrapp Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 i did get the carpet with the mass backing so maybe that was the problem but i wouldnt swear by it.i did use the amazon siless brand(dynamat knock off) but it greatly reduced cab noise and does a good job of insulating the cab.its literally a 1/3rd of the price of dynamat.

The recipe looks simple and easy to duplicate but few get it right. I’ve use Noico, killmat, dynamat and sound skins. Sound skins is top notch, dynamat is as well. Noico and killmat don’t dampen as well. And removing them is absolutely horrific. They will outgas as well when heated up. For something as labor intensive as sound dampening, I’d definitely suggest the “cry once” approach.
JIMMYRIG Posted November 5, 2025 Author Posted November 5, 2025 Ok thanks for the input! My interior is grey with carpet on the door panels so I want it to match. I can't tell if ACC's "medium gray" and "light charcoal" is closer and I bet it will look different from the photos in person. Anyone got experience with either?
JIMMYRIG Posted November 7, 2025 Author Posted November 7, 2025 And does anyone know if the floor pan of comanches is identical up until the half way point of a cherokee?
fiatslug87 Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 They are different. Key parts makes the floor pans and brackets, eBay link
JIMMYRIG Posted November 7, 2025 Author Posted November 7, 2025 Ok so carpet from an xj cut in half wouldnt fit well then?
89 MJ Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 Correct, carpet from an XJ would likely not fit well at all. And I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find good used carpet and the new stuff would fit worse than new MJ carpet.
Pete M Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 people have used XJ carpet before. I can't say how well it worked since I haven't. also I've never seen an old used XJ carpet worth reusing.
JIMMYRIG Posted November 7, 2025 Author Posted November 7, 2025 Ok maybe a picknpull buy and return if it doesnt fit well type deal haha
ghetdjc320 Posted November 8, 2025 Posted November 8, 2025 Get the ACC carpet kit without mass backing. As for color, ACC can get you a color swatch to compare. I ended up preferring the darker gray for interior on my last MJ. The XJ oe carpet will fit poorly as the XJ doesn’t have the side braces for the rocker panels nor the floor bracing for the frame
JIMMYRIG Posted November 9, 2025 Author Posted November 9, 2025 Thanks, ordered it. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
89 MJ Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 Lay it out in the sunlight or in a warm place first. It’ll make it go much easier.
