hemi_comanche
Hummer just can't get enough of Ripping Off other peoples ideas can they, and they have proven once again they can still design a vehicle that would not do to well on the trail. Hummer takes on Wrangler There are tons of pics here http://jalopnik.com/342457/detroit-auto-show-hummer-hx-concept-embargo-totally-fragged PHOTO GALLERY Editor's note: Hummer distributed information on this vehicle early with an embargo of Sunday, Jan. 13. But several Web sites have published pictures and information, so we don't think you should have to wait. General Motors will take the wraps off the Hummer HX concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Smaller than the H3, the two-door open-air HX is aimed squarely at the Jeep Wrangler. The HX's 103-inch wheelbase puts it in between the Wrangler and the Wrangler Unlimited. The HX's open-air driving experience comes via a pair of removable roof panels and a modular, removable rear roof assembly. The doors are removable, as are the fender flares (for more clearance on the trail). "The modular design of the roof and removable body panels mark an evolution of Hummer's design aesthetic," said Hummer exterior design boss Carl Zipfel. "These features demonstrate a deeper understanding of enthusiast desires when it comes to off-road driving, and the slant-back design gives the HX a look all its own." The four-seat interior is meant to be purposeful and off-road ready, with its largely sheetmetal-covered panels, and an exposed, extruded aluminum cross-vehicle beam as the instrument panel's foundation. There is also a rubberized floor and ballistic nylon-material covering on the instrument panel, and other interior components reinforce the functional aesthetic. JeeperjohnfromPA
Hummer, hah! Another Fancy SUV that you'll never see with one speck of dirt/mud on it! Yes looks like a cross breed of an FJ cruiser. What will be the price tag on this? I bet ya it will cost more then a Rubicon! and there will ALWAYS BE ONE THING IT'S LACKING< 4 simple letters, J E E P :D
JohnQ
I'm a JEEP fan, but I still like it. If I could afford, it I would drive the $#!& out of it! :D
dfreeman616
if they do it properly, it would be sweet. i can't say i'm all that fond of where our beloved jeep is going either, but this has some potential with aftermarket down the road. maybe. JeepcoMJ
take a look at the engine bay. don't auto manufacturers get it yet? we DON'T want to have to take out 80 gagillion things to add washer fluid, check oil, and change washer blades. one hood is enough thank you very much. WahooSteeler
JohnQ, I'm glad I just came across this and YOU had already posted you liked it first, maybe I won't get flamed for saying.........I love it. Definitely looks like an FJ more than anything, but I probably like it because I am a sucker for a cool looking show/concept vehicle. And Pat, I think the mfr's DO get it with this one...........i.e. that 90% of the people driving it are doing so because it says "look at me" and the only head that will ever be under that hood will be a dealer mechanic. Plus, I'm pretty sure half of that stuff will disappear if it goes to production. Speaking of, the concept "I" want them to build is the H3 based pickup. Now that thing was cool as hell IMO! http://www.thehummerexperience.com/Articles/2003H3.htm
mfpdm
I'm a Jeep fan, but that is very cool. Reminds me of a Warthog out of Halo. From the link it looks like that was what they were after. The younger Halo generation that is coming of driving age. I think the final production will lose a lot but seeing how it is going against the Wrangler, the price will be in the same nieghborhood(too much).
WahooSteeler
With a little more googling, it appears a done deal on the H3 pickup, but as a crew-cab. Makes sense being that the H3 shares a ton of parts, and the motor!, of the Chevy Colorado. Plus, a crew-cab Hummer with a short box appeals to a much wider audience than just a 2 door pickup. Again, all that little bed will be used for is to haul some plants, maybe a little mulch and some lawn furntiure home from Lowe's. However, if they sell enough of them, hopefully they might green-light the 2 dr "real" pickup. http://www.leftlanenews.com/spied-humme ... otype.html
tkgibbs27
i'm sure there could be plenty of stuff to salvage off of the damn thing. i wouldn't mind driving it off a cliff. only hummer i like is the original.
Pathkiller
Meh. So many "competitors" have come and gone, but Jeep remains. Scout, Bronco, Blazer, Samurai, all dead...
hemi_comanche
Here is my take on the on it. It looks like it could tear you apart and have fun doing it. Looks are decent, but offroad it is yet another failure. It is obviously meant for cruising the boulevard and saying look at me. Just take a look at the front view, it has IFS. Last I checked IFS is not typically preferred for high abuse offroading or rock crawling. That and Jeep buyers that get Wranglers and take them off road, don't care about a few scrapes here and there. I don't think the Hummer audience wants to scratch up there shiny paint. They will drive down a dirt road someday, and talk about how great it was offroad. The original Hummer is the only REAL Hummer. I would love to have an original, and hopefully someday I can. Just my $.

tkgibbs27
the hummer trucks look like a plastic toy. i don't know if i would trust it enough. the back looks like that nissan tundra or whatever it is. i don't like it, to toyish and futuristic looking. i would prefer to stick with the older trucks, unless they come out with the new gladiator, that thing is sweet looking. the liberties would look sweet as a truck as well, but i doesn't need to be so luxurious. jared
i like the look of the concept vehicle. its just that a concept vehicle. most of everything cool would be lost if it went into production. and the roof looks to hard to work. its not simple. but i will never own one so i could care less. a1awind
ya know the sad part is, the titan and tundra are more "American" than Chevy and Dodge trucks. 100% of the tundra's and titans are made in the USA while 85% of Silverados and 90% of Rams are made in Mexico or Canada.
