89 MJ
We have a thread about different grilles, graphics, and seat fabrics, but it might be a good idea to add the different seat styles to that thread. I am just posting this here for now to get more eyes on it. First, let’s talk about bucket seats, brackets/bases, and headrests. No headrests: 1984 only (headrests were an option) Vinyl headrests: I’m guessing these were standard. Years available? Cloth and vinyl headrests: were these standard or optional? Years available? Open center hard vinyl headrests: Optional? Years available? Regular forward and backwards tracks: standard all years? Rocker bases: XJ only? Optional? Years available? Power sliders: were these available at all on MJs? Years available? All MJ and 2 door XJ bucket seats would tilt forward, but I’ve noticed there were at least two styles of seats. Anyone know why? Wing back style: I know these were available on MJs. All years? Available in cloth only. Standard bucket style: The Renault Alliance and XJs used these too. Years available? Available in both cloth and vinyl. Now for bench seats. As far as I know, the only changes over time were the fabrics, colors, and headrests. There was also the style without the cutout for the shifter for auto on the column trucks. The other thread has colors and fabrics down. No headrests: 1986-1989 standard equipment, no headrest available Headrests: 1990-1992. Standard equipment. Auto on column style: available all years? And for anyone wondering about the other thread I was referencing, here is the link: Anyone have the answers to the years or anything else to add to the list? Good to know. I looked through my pictures, look like my 90 Eliminator was the same way. This has me leaning towards the cloth headrests were only available the first few years, then later they were all vinyl. And the win back seats must’ve been the seats that came on the higher trim vehicles.

I pulled the covers (including back seat) and put them on my Comanche buckets to retain the fold forward feature. Planning to sacrifice the rear seat cover to recover my overhead console. Less a sales thing and more a design thing?

Pete M
hmmm, I wonder if 2wd vs 4wd came into play here. I've got an 88 column shift 2wd here that has the straight bench.

jpnjake
From my experiences with the brochures, the notched bench seats came in anything with a floor console, even the mini mini 4x4 column shift so the seat can still be pulled all the way forward (for dwarves to drive?) the non notched bench seats are pretty rare only being in 2wd automatic column shift trucks from the factory. And I’m pretty sure starting in 1990 all bench seats have headrests. ^my 89 with a un notched bench seat, factory 2wd column shift wing back buckets also come in the xj Wagoneer style also the older xj Wagoneer seats are slightly different like the ones in @eaglescout526 Chunk xj Door cards are also a interesting topic with there being at least 6 different styles off the top of my head just in 84-96 style

Nothing too special other than the design and material. From my understanding only the top tier XJW's have the Limited inscribed to the seats.
