Looking for some help. I'm wanting to repair my Spare Tire Carrier. Its components are working but I need to get the end piece of the wire and the bolt/nut that crimps on to the wire to make it work. I don't know the names of these two components, if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. I'm posting a picture of my Spare Tire Carrier as it is and a picture I found on ebay which shows the components I'm looking for. Hopefully someone out there in the Jeep Comanche community can help me identify these parts, better yet, if you can let me know where to buy them I would be very appreciative.

I believe the end part is crimped on. I Don't think it's a disassemblable component. You could probably get away with any stamped piece of metal for the tire holder part, but I do not know how to reliably crimp onto a stainless cable.

Dang, I should've taken pics of my setup! My wire was cut just like yours, so I took the retainer off my 1998 Ford Ranger, which just barely goes through a Ravine wheel's center bore, then took a beefy bolt and washer, drilled a hole through the bolt, looped the cable through the hole and tied it with 2 cable clamps. I keep an eye on it from time to time and all is good so far.

Add a strap for good measure.

:yeahthat:This. I have a strap under mine just in case. Not sure what it would be but wayyyyy better safe than sorry. And prevent from buying a new rim and tire.

You should. Good, cheap insurance and the cable won’t be bearing all the weight. In 86 there was an optional (??) support bracket.

This is a pretty straight forward design. I like it. I'll fabricate something up. I'm hoping the j-bolt slots are still there in the bed frame.

Knowing AMC, they are still there.

The keyholes in the frame for the j bolts are only accessible and in the correct locations in the LWB models so you’ll be good to go.

I love how you know this and have photos readily accessible to back it up. A legend indeed.

I should absolutely go ahead and fab one up.

Thanks a ton!

Awesome! Thanks :D

It appears in my stash of parts I found one or more of these.  Any idea if the support at the top of the picture is actually MJ specific?  Maybe for SWB?
