DesertComanche86
Looking for some help. I'm wanting to repair my Spare Tire Carrier. Its components are working but I need to get the end piece of the wire and the bolt/nut that crimps on to the wire to make it work. I don't know the names of these two components, if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. I'm posting a picture of my Spare Tire Carrier as it is and a picture I found on ebay which shows the components I'm looking for. Hopefully someone out there in the Jeep Comanche community can help me identify these parts, better yet, if you can let me know where to buy them I would be very appreciative. Salvagedcircuit
I believe the end part is crimped on. I Don't think it's a disassemblable component. You could probably get away with any stamped piece of metal for the tire holder part, but I do not know how to reliably crimp onto a stainless cable. eaglescout526
Could always find an S10 winch and just sandwich it between the mounting pieces of the old assembly.
Pete M
hardware stores will have various clamping options for ya.

OldSch88L
Dang, I should've taken pics of my setup! My wire was cut just like yours, so I took the retainer off my 1998 Ford Ranger, which just barely goes through a Ravine wheel's center bore, then took a beefy bolt and washer, drilled a hole through the bolt, looped the cable through the hole and tied it with 2 cable clamps. I keep an eye on it from time to time and all is good so far.

Not sure what it would be but wayyyyy better safe than sorry. And prevent from buying a new rim and tire.

Salvagedcircuit
Hmm. My spare tire holder works great, but I wonder if it's worthwhile to have a safety strap of some kind so I don't end up with a torn cable or failed crimp.
fiatslug87
You should. Good, cheap insurance and the cable won’t be bearing all the weight. In 86 there was an optional (??) support bracket.

fiatslug87
The keyholes in the frame for the j bolts are only accessible and in the correct locations in the LWB models so you’ll be good to go. LWB SWB

LWB SWB I love how you know this and have photos readily accessible to back it up. A legend indeed. I should absolutely go ahead and fab one up. Thanks a ton! Awesome!
