Love the truck and the modifications your making to her. Keep up the great work. I was honestly a little upset to see the graphics come off such a clean, low mileage truck, but it looks great.

Thank you.  Paint and graphics were in bad shape.  I will get her repainted one of these days. Leaning towards the 1986 type decals once I get her painted. Will look great with a roll bar with some KC lights!

My attempt at repairing my dash.

The SEM paint is close but visibly different.  I had no idea what I was doing besides my youtube training sessions.  I think it turned out ok, but far from perfect.  I couldn't get the texture right and the more I messed with it the worse it got. I still need to finish putting it all back together.

The pictures make it look way better than it is. Texture is way off. It will get me by until I find a replacement or save enough $$ to get it re-wrapped. I more or less followed the Polyvance dash repair video on youtube.

Installed a GRANT steering wheel.  Haven't decided if I like it enough to keep it yet.  Might change it out for a cordovan stock one if I find one in good condition.

Hooked up my REM unit.  Still trying to figure everything out on it. Also need to finish installing my AMAZON radio with Car play. Not crazy about the way it sticks outside the bezel.

Decided to pull the bed and get some body work done on it.  Going to prep the frame and paint it all black.

How do you plan on repairing this?

I noticed the exact same issue on my drivers side rear of the cab. I don't exactly know how to fix this.

Option 1: open the seam, wire wheel it, spray paint it, seam seal it and hammer it back together.

Option 2: wire wheel the seam, apply an acid etch chemical with a brush and a syringe, wash it off with an alkaline base, dry the seam with heat then paint it and move on.

Option 2 sure sounds like a more promising idea. I really hate to have to tear the seam open. I just don't think it'll ever go back together the same.

I don't know if that's going to work

I wonder if there is a way to just wire wheel the seam, apply an acid etch, wash it off with an alkaline base then paint it and move on.

No sure yet.  I started with just hitting it with a wire wheel to see how bad it was first.  I might need some professional help.

I would advise against Raptor liner instead of paint. I love Raptor, but I don’t think it is suitable to do an entire vehicle with. Here’s a thread in tech about the pros and cons:

I would recommend painting it yourself or vinyl wrapping it before bedliner.

I decided to take it to a shop to have it professionally painted, I don’t think the bedliner finish suits my MJ, as it won’t be an off-road rig.

Thanks for all the input.  I have seen a few jeeps done with Raptor and I personally love the look. I'm going to buy a kit and try it out first.

I am prepping the bottom of my bed and going to spray it with black raptor.  Also have a couple extra fenders and doors to practice on with the white.  I'll post up some pictures.

I just painted the flares and lower panels of the XJ with Raptor thinned 15% with reducer and sprayed through a 1.7 tip HVLP gun. Somewhere on Upol or Raptor's website the had directions for various surface finishes.
