FrankTheDog
Friend lives in Crossville TN, where he lives it’s pretty Methy. My sister in law lives near Unicoi south of Johnson City. I like that whole area for the mountains and it seems like a decent area. If you move to Tennessee, join a church you’ll make a lot of connections and you’ll have an instant support group. My SIL complains that she doesn’t have any friends but she also doesn’t belong to a church. Want a lot of friends? Join a big church. Try out several to find the right fit. My friend in Crossville belongs to a church and it has been a big help and he’s helped out people too with his mechanic skills and such. His wife and kids enjoy it too. mjeff87
I've been to TN once...Lawrenceburg to be exact. Longest roadtrip I ever made. Left Richmond at 0700 Saturday morning, got there around 6PM, found a cheap motel, had dinner and went to bed. Picked up an engine the next morning (in the back of Ford Escort hatchback LOL) and drove back, got home at 7PM and damn near died on the couch within 10 minutes. Ya'll make some kind of sweet red pepper slaw/relish thing that you put on just about anything over there. It's damn tasty!
silvertwinkiehobo
With the help of Mr. and Mrs. Maveric, I made the move from Western Washington to South Texas, about halfway between San Antonio and Austin. Seguin isn't big, but it's less than 40 miles to San Antonio on I-10 and almost double that to Austin on I-35. I lived in Western Washington most of my life, watched it expand almost exponentially because of Boeing, and the Dot Com bubble later, and though it is beautiful all year long, and there's plenty to see and do, the sheer numbers of people and the political climate, plus my own personal rut I was stuck in, showed me I needed a change of scene. If you want to seriously consider the Puget Sound basin, I would recommend the West side of Puget Sound (Kitsap and Mason Counties), between Gig Harbor and Kingston, which give you access to Tacoma by bridge, Seattle directly by ferry, and Edmonds to Marysville along the I-5 corridor, also by ferry. Bremerton and Silverdale are Navy towns, so someone with a handyman business, connected to the Navy families through both word-of-mouth and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, could build a sizeable business (and necessary good reputation) just in Kitsap County. Parents commute all the time from Woodbury. 7 hours ago, FrankTheDog said: Friend lives in Crossville TN, where he lives it’s pretty Methy. My sister in law lives near Unicoi south of Johnson City. Our neighbor literally blew up his trailer from a meth lab. And the largest meth lab in the state (i think) was found just a few miles up the road. Good times. Long time friend of the family was a 30 year Nashville cop vet. You would think Nashville was the HQ for the cartels with the level of organized crime/drug/human trafficking going on there. East TN is the only part of TN I'm even remotely interested in. 7 hours ago, silvertwinkiehobo said: With the help of Mr. and Mrs. Maveric, I made the move from Western Washington to South Texas, about halfway between San Antonio and Austin. Both Portland (which is in a race for the 'Weirdest city in America' with Austin, TX) and Seattle are hotbeds, but you have to remember, no matter which way the political winds are blowing, the media is controlled and spun. jeff351
My .03 cents opinion. I'm from Maine. I have 1 brother in the welding/machinist trade with Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in NH for years and loves it. Pay is very good and you have tons of nice areas within 2 hours of the ocean. Bath Iron Works (another Navy ship builder) is only an hour up the coast. The snowmobile trails in northern Maine are awesome. My other brother has lived in Portland Oregon for 20+ years and loves it. Recent riots/activities have pushed his political views to the right since he has 1st hand knowledge of whats going on vs what the media reports. But there is a lot to offer, and the coast is beautiful. I visited last year. Avoid the city, the homeless population is out of control. I felt safer walking around in Afghanistan than i did Portland. Walking back from a bar late at night was like doing a tactical exfil back to the hotel. Super sketchy. I live in S.Carolina. Very tax and business friendly. Economy is doing great. Nice beach on the coast. BMW plant is 20 mins from here and a ton of industry in the area revolves around it. On the coast you have the new Volvo plant near Charleston.

You make a good impression online. Rethink that self-imposed limitation. As a son on a white father and a light skinned Puerto Rican, I grew up in the Jerusleam District where Nat Turner was hanged and I later taught at a black university. It is my belief that character and intellect do not know racial barriers. Why have hamburger for lunch every day when you can have miso soup and terriyaki chicken also. We need to focus on who we can be instead of transgressions of the past. I am excited about having a new next door neighbor from Belaruis

mjeff87
Depending on where abouts your talking about Bo, I'll be right there come Saturday. Wife and I are driving down to Hillard FL (actually closer to Folkston GA, about a mile off the St. Mary's river). Friends of ours from Pittsburgh retired last year, bought a huge chunk of (undeveloped) land for DIRT cheap and dropped a modular home on it. This will be our 4th trip down, and the third time driving it. Flew into JAX once, they picked us up at the airport which is about 30 miles south of them. The area definitively meets to OP's demographic requirements, LOL. It gets country quick once you get outside of Jacksonville. Quick.
