early comanche owner
Looking into wrapping with vinyl or liquid versus paint. Scared of wasting money when go off road. Any thoughts?
Pete M
I like that idea way better than bedliner. you can repair things simply by pulling off the wrap and replacing it once fixed.
Smokeyyank
Better off dipping it or just putting monstaliner/similar on. It's not cheap and any dent's will be visible. JK owners are all about it because they're a bunch of mall crawlin weenies....
fiatslug87
For the last 10 years I've been thinking of wrapping one of mine with digicamo.

early comanche owner
It shows dents but what about pioneer stripes? Would they need to be peeled before wrapping?

Yep, would have to be smooth all over otherwise the uneven surfaces will show.
Pete M
I imagine that a crazy wild pattern would hide a lot of flaws a smooth uniform color will likely need a lot of prep.
early comanche owner
Ya, guess I have I paint in the butt project stripping stripes. Decisions decisions
JustEmptyEveryPocket
No personal xp here, but I have read that a rubber erasing wheel mounted in a drill or similar will remove stripes quite easily. Something like THIS maybe?
Smokeyyank
Those wheels above do work really well. don't take a lot of time at all.
early comanche owner
thanks all i will have to go buy one just to try. stripes are from 1990..lol so hoping it works well
Gjeep
Even if you pull the stripes the surface will be raised slightly where the stripes were as that area has been ‘untouched’ from essentially wear down from elements/ car washing.
early comanche owner
the rubber wheel works well I am only on the bed but working on removing the stripes. you can see the color difference but it is MUCH faster than trying to peel.
Crash
The 3m stripe off wheel works amazing. Spendy but worth it.
ghetdjc320
I’ve been using wd40 degreaser to remove any leftover adhesive that has baked on over the years and it works great. Straight wd40 works well also. As for wrapping, I wouldn’t do it unless I prepped all the panels the right way. There are so many seams where rust can form and if they are not prepped, treated and sealed correctly, I can see the wrap acting as more of a moisture trap. Remember, as has been said before, these trucks rust from the inside out at least with paint you can see what’s happening and where a problem area may be developing. Money_Pits
I wouldn't fret too much if you are planning on off roading the mj. Take care of any rust, prep to prevent as much future rust as possible, and give it a shot. My TJ always came back worse for wear after off roading no matter how cautious I was, and if it were still running, it would be getting wrapped, dents included. The key thing is keeping on top of rust.
early comanche owner
I decided to have it painted. found a little shop here in Nashville area . figured if wrapping was going to last a couple of years with chances for rips might as well go with a economical paint and give it a shot... Pics to come, suppose to be complete this weekend
