For those of you interested, Tomco of St. Louis, MO makes an Air Temperature Sensor and have for a while it seems.  http://www.tomco-inc.com/ 

 

They do have a new part number, replacing the old #12120.

 

New part number is 12134 and it runs $69.73.  They have them in stock.  Telephone:  314-646-5300

 

I read that some guys were using the 312-190, modifying with the AC Delco PT307 harness, which is quite a bit less expensive possible option.

 

Just sharing what I've been searching about today.

Sensor, connector to the sensor, & connector end to plug into harness.

Do 4.0l and 2.5l engines have the same sensor. I ordered that one but it's too big

Not for sure. I actually mounted mine in the air box.

ohh so it doesn't have to go directly on the manifold?

From the factory it goes directly in the intake. I saw no real difference with it in the air cleaner. The ECM does read the air temp is lower beacuse it is. The intake is not heating the sensor.

Did you install it on the upper part or the lower part of the intake box

This is mine installed in the air cleaner. I put it after the air filter to keep it clean. It stays much cleaner than in the intake manifold.

I installed it in the top. That way it would get filtered air and stay clean. It stays much cleaner than in the intake manifold.

In the intake of the 2.5..........fuel wash, whereas the 4.0 has no fuel wash. 

 

Also, the 2.5 has a heated intake whereas the 4.0 does not. Considerable difference in air temps. 

 

 

 

Just pointing that out. 

Everyone here keeps comparing the apples to the oranges.

You are correct. I know nothing about the 2.5. There 4.0 on the other hand I have had a few of.

Well, I wasn't correcting you. 

 

Mainly making a statement to the 2.5 guys, they need to know and understand THEIR engine.

The perfect place is where engineering put it. Keep in mind any location hotter or colder, fuel trim will compensate for because O2S is boss and 14.7:1 will be maintained. Unless location is so hot or so cold ECU may default to OPEN LOOP.

JMO, did you see any fuel economy gains?

I was debating putting a threaded brass insert into the top rear of the air box and a plug into the intake. Then using it for a month locally then switching back and doing a comparison. I need to find that brass threaded insert first. I should be able to heat-set it into the plastic, similar to the threaded inserts used in 3D printed parts.
